A new Olive Us episode! And it’s a charmer. Do you have a wood-burning fireplace at your house? This little episode shows how our firewood is delivered and stacked — an event we have found delightful since this is the first house we’ve lived in with a working fireplace. And hey, if you consider yourself part of the Oscar Fan Club, this episode is especially for you! (Be sure to watch till the end of the credits for a little treat.)
Have you seen Moonrise Kingdom? We really loved it and thought the matter-of-fact narrator was an especially cool aspect of the story. So we thought it would be fun to make an Olive Us episode with a narrator, too. And Oscar was picked for the job!
A bit of trivia: You wouldn’t know it by watching the episode, but it was actually really challenging for Oscar to deliver his lines while looking directly into the camera. So hard! It took lots of practice and many, many (many!) takes. And ultimately, he had to concentrate so hard while doing it, that he is very, very serious throughout the episode. Which happily, turned out to be pretty darn charming (at least, in my opinion).
P.S. — More Olive Us episodes.
Oh my word! He is a doll. I was cracking up!
What a great video! Oscar’s voice reminds me of Linus from the Peanut’s Gang. Love!
great job channeling the wes anderson style! what a joy! my husband even liked it…and that’s an accomplishment.
Oh my. That was adorable.
I actually squealed at the end. Too adorable. I so love your children.
This is my favorite episode yet.
Oh, the wood pile… I remember stacking all to well from my own childhood. Ya’ll made it seem magical! I rembering it being dirty :) Oscar was fabulous!!
So absolutely adorable!! Oscar adds so much charm and sweetness. Love!
As I watched it all I could think of was Wes Anderson! Well done!!!
Another winner! Can this kid Oscar be any cuter????? I love how the camera lingered on his intense face. I never thought much about stacking wood but it’s a beautiful task in life to focus on. :)
Oh. My. Goodness. Precious.
This is my favorite of all! Totally reminded me of Wes Anderson!
I LOVE it!! And my children LOVE it! Oscar is so darn cute (as are the rest of the Blair children) and the piece after the credits is hilarious! Gotta watch it a few more time. :)
My new favorite.
Gabby – this is awesome! Love it so much. Oscar is so funny. His last line is the best. I can’t imagine you got through this with a straight face. And the one-armed pushups? Priceless.
It was so hard not to laugh during filming!
i thought it seemed a little wes andersen-y before i read your post! also oscar reminded me of linus from charlie brown. :)
the music you choose for each episode is always right on, too.
The music is great! I wish I could take credit, but really, Tiger in a Jar heads our the music sourcing. They find the best stuff!
He nailed the moonrise kingdom style narration, It’s the first thing I thought of while watching, without reading your explanation! Oscar needs to get in touch with Wes Anderson ASAP. I’m sure there’s a broader audience for that one.
I can’t describe how much I loved this for all the reasons that I do. Perfect delivery, Oscar! And, he didn’t have to lift a finger except to use them for his one-arm push-ups. Bravo!
Oh God, he is just too much!! I cracked up ten times and the end after the credits, just epic. The kids loved it too!!
Oh My Goodness! I nearly died of how wonderful Oscar was in this video!!!!! I certainly see the homage to Moonrise Kingdom. Simply too perfect!
Hi Gabby,
I am now a memeber of the Oscar Fan Club. I have a suggestion that he may like, a story to tell, and an idea that may succeed. I was wondering if you would mind if I talked to him. I would like to talk to Oscar, either to his e-mail or on the telephone.
I am known to the Blair Family, Bob Blair was my prof. at BYU. I used Ben Blair in some assignments for my Education Major at BYU. I am the same age as Dell Blair, however; we have never been romantically linked, but I think he would recommend me as trustworthy and a good influence with children. He recommended Osccar’s Movie and gave me a link to your blog site. I think the Blair family would at least say they are aquainted with me.
Adorable! He did a great job! The perseverance paid off.
Oscar is SO great! In the last scene he reminded me of Alistair Cooke! These episodes really are getting better all the time (although I loved “Betty in Paris” so much that Oscar will have to settle for tying with his sister, as far as I’m concerned. :)
This reminds me of the old adage: Wood warms you three times – when you cut it, when you split it , when you burn it. Perhaps we should add when you stack it?
I regret every day that has passed without me being in the Oscar fan club. I volunteer to be president:)
Oh, man, I love them all. Stacking Wood has got to be my new favorite, though.
