A Few Things

Hello, Friends. How are you? Are you looking forward to the weekend? I’ve had such a strange week. I’d wake up feeling fine, go about my day, and after one errand or task, I would feel so physically wiped out, I’d have to lay down. I’d post updates about the house to Instagram stories, or meet with the carpenter — and then it was like I was suddenly maxed out. But I had no other symptoms and I couldn’t figure out what was up. It was so strange!

I’m feeling much more like myself today, so I’m grateful for that.

It was also a strange week because I was attacked by this fringe group of Mormons that are super far right — like farther right than MAGA — who happened to find my God + Guns thread. I argued with some, and blocked others. That kind of thing can be so exhausting.

So anyway, it was an odd week. But luckily, that didn’t stop me from finding you some really excellent links. Here are a few things I’ve been wanting to share:

-The Conspiracy Theorists Are Winning.

-I’ve had a big jump in Instagram followers (I’m told my house renovations updates on stories are good quarantine content), so I did a little introduction post on Instagram. If you’re new here, you might find it helpful.

-Have journalists learned anything since 2016 and “but her emails”?

-What are your thoughts on a female God?

-Remember a few weeks ago when Senator Burr did some insider trading and dumped his stocks just before the stock market bottomed out? The FBI served a warrant this week and seized his cell phone.

-Do you ever read AITA posts? Sometimes I see them shared on social media and this one made me want to throw a shoe or something. Ugh. (AITA stands for Am I The A**hole?)

-Google has drastically rolled back its diversity work due to fears of being perceived as anti-conservative.

-I brought home a box of If You Care parchment sheets from Alt Summit (they were sponsors), and have to say I LOVE that they come precut. So much more helpful than I expected that to be. Betty used them to make sugar cookies this week (best frosting recipe!) and it reminded me.

-The coronavirus will be with us for the foreseeable future.

-Bono has been writing fan letters to other musicians and it’s really lovely.

Here are some tweets I save for you:

-In the evenings Chuck Wendig asks interesting questions and I like reading the responses.

Tweet of the week for sure.

This is how I feel when I get emails telling me they are going to quit reading here because I have political opinions.

-A video of Snoop Dogg sitting alone in his parked car listening to Let it Go from Frozen.

-An interesting thread on how anti-vaxers are being radicalized.

-Not sure why this made me laugh so hard but it totally did.

Trump knows he’s a rapist.

-More thoughts on Tara Reade:

-I find this so disturbing.

-50,000+ responses to this question. Do you have any mundane celebrity encounters?

I hope you have a beautiful weekend. I’ll meet you back here on Monday. I miss you already.

kisses,
Gabrielle

  1. I’m so sorry that your week has been tough! Far-right groups of any religion must be a difficult thing to deal with. We’re thinking of you and rooting you on!

  2. These attacks are very violent, that’s probably why you felt exhausted. Words have power. Hope you can rest this week-end and surround yourself with light and love.

  3. I wanted to thank you so much for the public stands you take especially given that there is a scary fringe element within your chosen religion (speaking as a currently attending Baptist in Alabama, I know what the cost can be). I’m praying for peace and rest for you. Thank you so, so much.

    1. I admire your spirit in always sticking up for groups that would normally be under attack by extremists – I’m so sorry to hear that you are the one getting bullied and harassed now! I’d imagine that would be both intimidating and draining at the same time! This community appreciates and adores you! Thanks for making the world a kinder place!!

      1. Thank you, Victoria. This isn’t the first time I’ve been harassed, but for some reason it’s been especially exhausting. Happily, I took a good break this weekend.

    2. +1 to all of this. I am HERE (!!!) FOR (!!!) the political content. You have influenced my politics quite a bit over the years (in a good way) and push all of us here to think about things a different way. Thanks for being a voice of reason with one of the best comment sections on the Internet IMHO!

  4. Your blog has always seemed like a breath of fresh air, but especially so in the past three months.

By the way, have absolutely loved following along on instagram.

  5. Engaging with people who are blind to facts and deeply connected to their own thought bubbles is is exhausting. Please keep up the good work.

Also just wondering….do you feel some relief that you now live in a community that does worship guns?

  6. Decision fatigue feels as physical as mental for me, and you’ve been making so many decisions with your lovely house! Add a pandemic and extremists! You need a cup of tea, hot scones and a lie down ;)

    1. 100% agree.

I am suffering decision fatigue, and that’s just managing WFH (low productivity) and children remote learning.

You have a lot going on.

  7. You have been brave and strong voice on so many fronts. Like others have said, I am sorry you have had to take space in your spirit and mind with attacks. It hurts the heart to know there are people filled with so much hate. Be well this weekend. Rest your heart and soul.

  8. I love your house renovation post too, but unfortunately I don’t do Instagram yet. I wish people could be kind during this time. I’m glad your taking breaks!

    1. Thank you Ann. I know everyone doesn’t do Instagram, which I totally understand — there’s only so much media any one person can handle! I’m trying to update here on the blog as well, but there is definitely way more content on Instagram regarding the house.

Someone told me that even if you’re not logged in to an Instagram account, that if you go to my Instagram page from your laptop, you can click on the circles and see my “highlights” which share ALL the details of what we’ve done so far. I’m not sure if that’s true, but it might be worth a try.

  9. I love the happy songs twitter thread you shared! I made a Spotify playlist of my favorites. You can search and listen: “Smile Songs” by Jennifer.

  10. Kristen Collins

I’m so sorry to hear that you had to manage that. I am so grateful to you for your posts and bringing us along on your renovation journey on IG. It’s been a bright spot in my day. Thank you and sending 💕your way from MA.

  11. I have been SO exhausted too!!! The simplest tasks and then I’m wiped out!
Is it stress? The fact that I’m NEVER alone? Or do I have COVID, but just the tired, worn out part? I don’t know!!

  12. I 100% agree on the decision fatigue. I am wiped once dinner is finished, my work productivity is way down.

I suffer with feeling overwhelmed reasonably often, moderating your blog and instagram would be too much for me. I think you do it so well.

But to add the need to defend yourself from a group of people!, intense exhaustion.

I hope you’ve had some respite and a chance to rest from the week you had. All the best :)
