Here’s another What to Wear to School wardrobe tour, this time featuring 7-year-old Oscar. Fun fact: based on the emails he’s received, Oscar has a bit of a fan club from his roles in the Olive Us episodes. Luckily, it hasn’t gone to his head. : )
For outfit #1, Oscar is wearing a yellow polo shirt from JC Penney, sky blue khakis from a clothing store in Rome, classic checkered Vans and a striped tee from H&M.
It’s fun for me to look at these photos and see how much Oscar moves around. He is active as can be!
Oscar wears layers. They seem to work best with the always changing weather here in Normandy. For outfit #2 he’s wearing jeans from Polarn O. Pyret, a hoodie button-down from Benetton and a henley from H&M.
Oscar has a hard time putting on socks, so I’ve started buying them a size larger than he needs and now he can pull them on with ease. We bought these socks as part of a patterned pack from H&M.
It’s been interesting to see Oscar’s reading develop. He was in kindergarten when we moved here, so he’s been learning to read in both French and English. He works with Magic Treehouse books in English and Tchoupi books in French.
Oscar’s outfit #3 is his favorite. It’s the one he chose to wear on the first day of school. Jeans are the same as above. Jacket and tee are from H&M.
Oscar wanted to make sure we got plenty of photos of him being super tough. Prepare yourself.
For outfit #4, Oscar is wearing a checked button-down with a sweatshirt from H&M as a top layer. The army green trousers are from the Next outlet.
Super tough.
Last up is outfit #5. Oscar is wearing a heavy weight graphic tee from Benetton with a denim shirt from Polarn O. Pyret layered on top. Same shoes, socks and pants mentioned above.
Side note: The lizard-y creature he’s holding is awesome. It was a gift from our friends, Audrey and Nick, who picked it up in Japan. It’s made from some super-powered-glow-in-the-dark material and it holds a glow for a long time. Rad.
Not sure what this photo is about. He’s never seen Austin Powers, but he’s totally channeling Dr. Evil.
But this. No matter how tough he feels, this is how he looks most often.
I adore his cuteness in Olive Us!
Count me in as part of the fun club!
Magic Tree House books are a great option after they learn to read.
So cute! My son just turned 7, and the past year was filled with Magic Tree House Books! He referred to them as Jack and Annie books. It would amaze me that I could say to him, “What’s book #17’s title?” and he would know it! And he would answer me in such an exasperated tone, like how could I not know all the titles to all of the books? geeze, Mom!
Those Vans are to die for – too cool for school!
Hah! I can totally imagine his expression.
what a ham!! You must laugh out loud everytime you scroll through these. His laughter and joy jump right off the screen. What’s better than a happy kid?
May his joie de vivre last a lifetime!
best ~

I couldn’t stop smiling as I scrolled through this post! What a character. :)
How cute! Love it! My son just turned 4 and I’m on a quest for a warm, nicely- styled winter jacket. Any recommendations?
Are you thinking sporty like a ski coat?
Yep, I think something sporty would be good – warm and will hold up during playtime :).
Thanks for the book link – my 2nd grader has started to teach herself French with lessons from Rosetta Stone, and she would love those books! I’d love to hear more about what your kids read in French.
Awww. He’s tough but he’s still a baby.
That’s exactly what I think. : )
SO tough!! Oscar is starting to look so grown up. Thanks for sharing :)
love layers… we live in the Utah mountains and layers are the key! so cute I could look at these all day
Can’t believe he was in kindergarten when you moved to France and now he’s in grade 2! Time is FLYING!
I was running errands yesterday in a nearby village called Ecouché, and I got teary thinking how I would be moving in less than a year and wouldn’t be able to soak in the rooflines and old stone and cobbled streets any more. It’s too fast!
He is going to be a heartbreaker! What a handsome boy!
Could you recommend other books in French? We have a French immersion program at our school, but it is so hard to find actual series of French books! What do the French students read (similar to Magic Tree House level)? Are there any French picture books that you love? Any particular authors your kids enjoy?
Thanks!
My dearest friend here in France works at the library. I need to have her do a post!
Such a cute guy! My 6 year old man is very into strong poses. In fact, hardly any of our pics of him at Bryce Canyon are “regular” poses, they are all “strong.” LOVE it!!!
Oscar (I love the name) looks like so much fun. Super cool kid.
I was waiting for this post, because my older is 6 years old and I needed some ideas. I love all the outfits. But I have some questions. Do you let him pick his own clothes at the store? If yes, he has amazing taste. :)
How do you stay away from Lightning MCQueen and other movie characters? My son insists on picking his own clothes. He has some funny T-shirts in his closet. :)
Good question, Azra. I usually present him with two options at the store (both options that I like) and let him pick between them. He still gets to be in charge, but I make sure only good choices are on the table. : )
I usually read the blog through the feed but I had to come here and comment on how precious Oscar is – count me in as another member of his fan club.
he is so cute!!
Really cute series- I like how your kids are so into the modeling and picking their clothes!
Thanks, Christy! Maude, Ralph and Betty are up next week. I hope you won’t be sick of them by then. : )
Oh – could he be any cuter?! I think not!
Oscar has some kickin’ style! Love that face too.

from all the pictures I’ve seen, I have to say he looks so much like his father. Handsome kiddo.
People have commented since Oscar was born how much the two of them look alike. It’s fun to get to see Ben-in-miniature — like I’m witnessing what my husband was like as a little boy.
Haha, Milo does that exact same muscle pose. So funny. Oscar sure is easy to fall in love with (as are all your kids. You must be doing something right!)
xoxo
Oh my goodness, I want to join the Oscar fan club. My son is only 10 months old so I had no reason to look at this post. That said, I had to scroll through the whole thing just to eat him up, he kills me! That Dr Evil photo is the end. Go Oscar!
smashing!
Oscar is super cute! His personality just leaps off the (web)page! I love seeing these back-to-school outfits.
What a cutie! I love his style! He has the best accessory of all – an awesome smile!
Oscar looks adorable!
You know– methinks you had fun with Oscar in this photo shoot. I can tell he loved posing, when normally, he doesn’t. I usually skip the what-to-wear stuff because I’ve only got a two-year-old, but this one is more about what he’s wearing. I love that you get one-on-one time with your kids during this tradition.
Count me in (the fan club) he is the cutest kid !
I adore him wearing checked vans with argyle socks..He looks cute !
