This post is sponsored by Haven Life. Introducing Haven Life Plus — it’s not just easier life insurance, it’s an easier life.
Earlier this year, I told you about how much I love HavenLife — it’s an online life insurance agency, backed and wholly owned by MassMutual, that’s committed to offering a better, more modern way to buy term life insurance online. Founded by a father who went through the life insurance buying experience, Haven Life’s mission is to make it easier for more people to get this important financial product.
Haven Life’s process is super easy and only takes about 10 to 20 minutes online to fill out the application. If you’ve been meaning to check it out, but still need another boost of motivation, how about this: What if you could get your life insurance in order, and then, at no additional cost, get your will in order too? And all your important documents secure, organized and accessible to only those who need them?
If that sounds good, you’re in luck, because Haven Life recently launched Haven Life Plus. It’s a new rider (think: bonus feature) included in the Haven Term policy that provides awesome benefits at no cost or at a discount. Plus benefits are available to Haven Term policyholders in 45 states. I’m going to tell you about all three benefits — starting with the will, because I’m totally stoked about that one.
First up, with Haven Life Plus you get access to an online will service through their partner Trust & Will. Do you need a will? If so, don’t be embarrassed because you’re not alone. Turns out more than 150 million Americans know they need a will but haven’t gotten around to it yet because the whole thing seems so intimidating.
In true Haven Life style, Trust & Will offers a way to create a legal will that ’s streamlined, intuitive and actually quite pleasant. Thanks to Haven Life Plus, customers can create legal wills for them and their partner at no charge — it’s normally $129 to purchase a couple’s will, so that’s a nice savings.
Wouldn’t it feel so good to get “create a will” checked off your to-do list? (Raising my hand.)
Second, with Haven Life Plus, you get access to a secure, digital “vault” called LifeSite that keeps all your family’s critical info safely stored. Those critical documents can drive me nuts. I don’t think about them most of the time, and feel like I’m generally pretty organized document-wise, but then a big life event comes up — like a marriage, a new baby, a new home, a refinance — and all of a sudden it feels like I’m hunting down 70 different forms, certificates, and records.
This is a common problem. Haven Life did some research and found out that 88% of adults store their important documents in a file cabinet, folder or not at all*. And related, but maybe more scary, more than a third of married couples have no idea how to access their partner’s important email, financial or social accounts if they suddenly passed away. Yikes.
LifeSite is a direct response to that storage issue, and with Haven Life Plus the service is free — it normally costs $80/year — and includes the ability to share the vault with five family members.
As Ben Blair and I went to the airport for our trip to Australia, our weaknesses in this area were at the top of my mind. If something happened to both of us while we were away, could our kids find all the important info they need? We’re long overdue for making sure all of our key documents are organized, safe, and accessible to the people who might need them.
Third, with Haven Life Plus you get discounts at MinuteClinic — which can be found inside CVS and Target stores. Have you heard of MinuteClinic? I shop at both Target and CVS so I guess I should be a MinuteClinic pro, but it’s actually new to me. : ) They offer convenient, appointment-free family health services like Vitamin B12 injections, quick vaccinations, stop-smoking services, and cholesterol screenings.
Each HavenLife Term policyholder receives one voucher for a 15% discount on any single MinuteClinic service.
Those are some pretty terrific benefits at no extra cost. I think the tagline is fitting: It’s not just easier life insurance, it’s an easier life.
Honestly, I really like the whole thinking behind Haven Life Plus. Haven Life knows that the relationship between a consumer and a life-insurance provider can last anywhere from 10 to 30+ years. That’s a long time! But it’s often sort of a non-relationship. In fact, Haven Life did a survey* and it showed that of people between the ages of 26 and 54 who had life insurance, 50% of them didn’t even know the name of the company providing that coverage. Hah! Haven Life wants to change that trend — they want to give something back to customers while asking for nothing in return — no data, no hoop-jumping, no additional cost to their premium.
If you’re a current Haven Life Term policyholder consider this proof that they care about you as more than just a policy number. And if you’re curious about Haven Life’s simple-to-apply-for life insurance, consider these extra benefits the encouragement you need to make it happen.
Your turn, I’d love to hear your thoughts. I’m especially curious about wills and key document storage. How do you handle things like this? For document storage, we have a fireproof box that we keep things like birth certificates and passports in. Other important documents (related to our house and bank accounts) are in a small filing cabinet in our family office. I would LOVE to know everything was in a secure place online and that our kids had access. I think that would bring such a mental relief.
And what about wills? Do you have one? Do you update it regularly? As technology changes, has your will reflected that? I’ve heard that instructions for social media accounts are now being put into wills — for example, an Instagram account with a big following may be considered a financial asset. If you died, would the people you left behind know how to find your will or access it? If your spouse died, do you know how to access their accounts or documents or email? Would your spouse know how to access yours?
This is insurance so of course there’s fine print:
