Maria Fé’s Georgia home looks like an absolute haven, doesn’t it? Colors ease gently from one to the next, magazine-worthy vignettes wait patiently in every corner for their close-ups, and can you believe her chevron wall? It is truly a thing of beauty.
It’s clear that Maria and her husband, Brad, prefer clean lines, modern twists, and elegant tones. And when their son, Jack, came along, they stayed true to their design leanings. His bedroom is solid and sturdy, but still remarkably soft. I love nurseries that are equally pleasing to babies as they are to their parents, since we end up spending so much time together in them! Enjoy the tour!
Three words to describe Jack’s space:
Modern, warm, and comfortable.
Where did you begin with the design of the room?
Jack’s nursery was primarily inspired by Ferm Living’s Wilderness Wallpaper. Even before I knew I was having a baby boy, I knew I wanted to incorporate this wallpaper. I love the combination of gold and cream, and its unexpected pattern. My next favorite item is his crib. I wanted something modern and minimalistic with clean lines; the Eicho crib was the perfect match.
This room is such an extension of the rest of your house, which is quite difficult to do with a nursery. What’s your secret?
When decorating my home, I’ve always tried to be true to my taste and not current trends. I believe that nothing you truly like ever goes out of style. So, I designed Jack’s nursery with the same philosophy in mind. I want his nursery to be able to change and evolve as Jack grows, and the only way to achieve this was staying true to my taste and style.
The color you chose for the walls is refreshingly unexpected for a nursery. If you could have used any other color scheme, what would you have chosen?
My second color scheme option would’ve been light gray, black and white. I have another Ferm Living wallpaper I’m dying to use. Maybe for my next nursery!
What shops are impossible for you to leave empty-handed?
When I was pregnant, I visited Pieces in Atlanta. It’s not a baby or child’s store, but I left with this adorable Jonathan Adler whale candleholder. It was the first accessory I purchased for Jack’s nursery. And I absolutely love these Fox and Lion prints by the Etsy shop Eastwiching.
What’s on your wish list for Jack’s room?
Currently I’m coveting this Eames Elephant Stool. I think it will fit perfectly with the wilderness and animal theme in Jack’s nursery.
I love the collection of dinosaurs on his shelves! Did you paint them yourself?
I sure did! My husband is huge into dinosaurs and sharks. I bought them from the dollar section at Target — some were actually 50 cents! — and then sprayed them with gold and black paint.
If you could give advice to new parents who are planning and designing their own nurseries, what would it be?
Keep your options open and be ready to change your mind a million times! Buy several paint samples, and paint small swatches on the walls. My husband and I would sit in Jack’s empty nursery staring at color options for hours! Don’t be afraid to go outside your comfort zone, either. Try something new, bold, and unexpected!
I love Jack’s nursery best when…
we’re playing on the floor and his toys are scattered all around his room!

I love this nursery… especially the wallpaper! I enjoy seeing nurseries that go against the conventional pastel colors of pink and blue. I have tried to design our daughters nursery as something that will grow with her. I believe this one will do the same.
Thank you for the lovely feature!
The wallpaper is fantastic! The sunburst mirror is beautiful. What a wonderful nursery!
Are the chevrons wallpaper? If so, where is it from?
Hi,
I’m new to your blog and so far I’m loving it! I feel so inspired to be creative and work on my living spaces – Thanks!
xoxo
@kristi – no, the chevron wall was hand painted by my husband. You can read about it here: http://www.layersofmeaning.com/search/label/chevron%20wall
So good to know! Thanks for the link, Maria.
Thanks for the info! Your husband has way more patience than mine.
lovely!
I love it too. That pop of pink is so nice. I’d kill for those grey chairs.

This nursery is so chic! The wallpaper is divine!
On a different note, in reading your ‘About’ section I exhaled with delight upon learning that I have company in the ‘dislike cilantro’ boat!!
Cheers!

Fist bump for cilantro dis-likers. : )
gorgeous! That chevron wall is making me drool!!!!
Isn’t it stunning? I wonder if it’s wallpaper or paint?
I love that wallpaper. The theme is really cute. Thanks for sharing this with us!
This is TOTALLY fabulous wonderful and AMAZING nursery! ..and I LOVE that wallpaper :)
“Nothing you truly like ever goes out of style,” is a wonderful attitude. While she puts things together that she likes, they also work well with each other. I think that’s were many of us stumble in creating a pleasing room.
Thanks for the tour!
I think you’re right!
Mirrored tables? My kids could break them by just looking at them! But they do look pretty…
Wow, I could never have put that room together, but I love it. The pop of pink against the gray looks striking. And I’ve always wanted to use mirrored tables somehow, but have been unsure of where they’d fit in my decor. They may be impractical, but these look great!
Beautiful, but I predict those mirrored tables with sharp edges will be put in storage for a few years once the little guy starts toddling around.
I was actually thinking the same thing. When I saw the title of “living with kids” I thought….um, not with those tables. :)
