Jennifer from Cup of Coco made this wall globe for a child’s room. It’s made of 100% wool felt and the little pieces move around and attach with velcro. The cute suitcase holds all the pieces. Wouldn’t your kids love something like this? I bet it gets played with for hours and hours.

July 14, 2010 at 1:35 pmGasp! Oh my goodness! How awesome is this……I’m sure my children would love this, but I alone want one of these to play with. What a fun idea.

July 14, 2010 at 2:11 pmThis would be great in my pre-k classroom, I think I could make it and use die-cuts to make the smaller pieces, that would be the only way I could do it, it would take too much time to hand cut each of those characters.Super idea!
Design Mom
July 14, 2010 at 2:54 pmI’ll bet diecut would work really well. Great idea!
Angel
July 14, 2010 at 2:12 pmOh my goodness – this is amazing! I love the suitcase and the plane. My favorite piece though is the Olympic rings – what a great idea!

July 14, 2010 at 2:35 pmOMG, I LOVE this!!! My kids would go nuts for it!! I especially love that even thought it’s all felt, the pieces attach with velcro (I find that felt on felt doesn’t stick satisfactorily enough for my kids!). The little details are so fun!
I have to go to her site. I third Tina’s request and hope that she sells them!!
Design Mom
July 14, 2010 at 2:55 pmSo true! Felt on felt is never a great hold. Velcro is a smart addition.

July 14, 2010 at 2:49 pmNevermind the kids, me and Ed love maps! There is nothing like being able to “see” an entire content, trace the routes you taken or want to go on. The kid love drawing maps of our house, yard, the way to school, etc..
We are a map loving family.

July 14, 2010 at 2:56 pmYay for Maps!

July 14, 2010 at 3:01 pmDoesn’t some people’s talent just take your breath away?! We will be adopting a little boy from Korea soon, and I’ve been thinking for a while now of putting up some sort of world map so “Korea” is a little more tangible to my kids. This felt globe would make it seem even more real.
Andrea
July 14, 2010 at 3:14 pmI love the three dimensional pyramids. It would be really fun to continue adding pieces over time. You could even incorporate felt people (or felt people with photo faces), especially if you had family members in other countries, or a parent who travels frequently on business. When my girls were 3 and 1, Grandma and Grandpa went to China for a year to teach English, so we worked with the kids to help them understand the concept of faraway places. Around that time, we got our first globe–$10 from Target in the school supplies aisle. We let the kids use the globe as they please, and it needs replacing only every two or three years. Hooray for maps and globes!

July 14, 2010 at 3:24 pmAndrea, I lOVE the idea of adding elements or people over time!

July 14, 2010 at 3:18 pmI love, love, love this! We just bought a world map from Costco, but it’s a large wall map that’s not as hands-on having something that is hands-on would be amazing. Especially for the kids here who already believe themselves world travelers through reading & learning ;)

July 14, 2010 at 3:21 pmThanks, Gabrielle, for the email heads up of all these wonderful comments. This was a custom piece created for my globe trotting client favorite world locations. It was such a great piece to make! (and I learned a ton from all my research) I would be happy to create other custom globes. Feel free to email me. Thanks for all the feed back!

July 14, 2010 at 9:00 pmThis is such a great tool in so many ways-it’s interactive so it’s great for use as a learning tool in the classroom(doesn’t take up a lot of space-another plus), and it’s also great for the playroom, the nursery, the den. I really love this one!

July 15, 2010 at 7:49 amPlease ask her if she’ll sell them! We live in Costa Rica and are adopting a baby boy from Ethiopia and are moving to Mexico but are from Florida…we NEED this globe!!! This would make teaching our 3 children 4 and under about all of those places so much better….I think we need this!
Tabitha (From Single to Married)
July 15, 2010 at 7:51 amoh my goodness – that is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen! I would LOVE to get my hands on one of those! (I tried to make my own felt mobile and it didn’t turn out so well.) :)

July 15, 2010 at 9:52 amOh please can you convince her to sell these? I have a niece and nephew adopted from Ethiopia, and a niece on the way from China, and I want one for my boys. In fact, I think I would put an order in for 1 for each of my children and nieces and nephews. Oh please!! (Acting like a spoiled whiny brat here, but I want it so bad!!) – I’ll buy the pattern or the finished product – either way.

Kim
July 15, 2010 at 6:08 pmThat is truly awesome! I love it, but don’t think I could come up with the time to make all those intricate little pieces! My kids would be so happy, though, if I would. And what a fun way to teach geography, starting very young.

July 16, 2010 at 11:28 amI read this post the other day, and I can’t stop thinking about this awesome globe! I showed my sons, and my geography-loving 6 year old wants to make his own version. I don’t sew, so I’m guessing ours will be made with paper, and not quite as elaborate. :)
Thanks for posting about this. Seriously, it’s one of the coolest educational/decor items ever!

July 16, 2010 at 3:45 pmAs an early childhood teacher for many years, nanny, and mother, I have seen a lot of products and designs for children. These are by far the most enchanting I have ever seen. Kudos to the designers for these fresh and fun patterns and designs. I would love to have these for my daughter who may be expecting soon. Thank you for your time and talents!

July 24, 2010 at 7:46 pmIf you want to make your own felt map…do a quick search on Montessori felt maps. We use them all the time and I’ve made up for my kids. I’m going to TOTALLY redo it so it’s like this. We do a lot of animals and landmarks and such but the whole up on a wall, crafty, etc..well…I think it’ll have to be a part of their handmade Christmas. I’ve contacted her begging for a pattern or if she minds mommas creating patterns off her ideas. Here’s hoping!!!

September 3, 2010 at 6:41 amThis is more than gorgeous, it’s amazing. I will save your page and if I ever have the time and the will I will try to make something similar for my daughter. Maybe until she grows up I will finish it :-) Until now I made some small felt objects as gifts, but something like this would prove I’m not completely un-talented. Thank you for sharing your ideas with us!

October 5, 2010 at 3:43 pmI enlisted a crafty friend – and she has made me 4 wall globe kits! They look almost exactly like this one, but she said it would not be cost effective for her to put them together, so she is assembling kits. Can’t wait to get them!

October 18, 2010 at 4:13 pmHi Rendy Lemke

October 24, 2010 at 9:03 pmI have received my Felt Wall Globe kits! So excited to start making one. If any of you want to buy one, or consider it, you can look at Felicia’s blog here:

She has very detailed instructions and all the supplies, and it appears to look exactly like the one showcased in this post, down to the little suitcase, airplanes, Olympic rings, etc.
