Easy Paper Plate Baskets for Pretty Summer Meals

DIY: Paper Plate Berry Boxes. Easy and food safe!

Food-safe food coloring turns plain paper plates into something stylish and fun. Easy patterns, simple lines, it doesn’t take much to make them spectacular. Use these little baskets for picnics or cook outs, parties or weddings, gifts, or every day. And happily, the baskets can be used and reused.

Mix the water and food coloring together. Use Q-tips, cotton balls or paint brushes to make designs.

Allow the plates to fully dry. Note: If the basket does get wet, the colors could bleed onto whatever is below.

While they dry, make a template for the basket. With a plain plate, use the same width to measure in from the middle of each side and make a mark. Take the ruler and make the mark into a full line. I used 2.5″ as my measurement.

Notice where the lines intersect to make an ‘L’ shape/pie slice. Cut one of the lines at each junction. It needs to be the same line at each junction. I chose to cut the bottom line of the ‘L’ shape.

Fold the sliced piece back on itself.

Put a piece of double-sided tape on each of the folded pieces. Then bring the folded edge and the straight edge together. Pinch firmly to secure.

Continue until all the edges are connected. String can be added as embellishment.

Fill with berries or other treats, and enjoy!

    1. Thank you Amyville! I love my red shoes too. Sadly, they are very old Target brand. But someone should tell Target to remake them. I get compliments each time I wear them. :)

  5. This looks right up my alley! Painting without worrying about straight lines or over the top details. No hot glue, no sewing and 10 minutes I’m thinking to do the whole lot.

I’m also thinking if I lined the insides with foil, I could even use them as serving dishes for a select view food items. Or disposable containers for brownies, cookies and etc. at a BBQ. Or for quick clean up during our vacation! Hmm…
