Alt Summit

By Gabrielle.

Alt Summit SLC has arrived. The first panels and keynotes start today. In fact, I really need to get off my computer and get dressed and get going!

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I’m an Alt Summit founder and owner, and my ongoing responsibilities include determining, inviting and overseeing all the panels, classes and speakers. It’s an exciting job that requires many hours over many months.

I couldn’t sleep well last night, because today’s the day I get to see all that work in action. I know from experience there will be dozens of challenges that pop up, big and small, throughout the conference, and I so badly want to be able to handle them with grace under pressure. Among the many things on my mind, I want to be attentive and undistracted during my conversations, to assist the speakers with their technical setup and bring them calm and encouragement — and to make sure the Keynote Speakers are picked up from the airport on time. : ) The photo at top is one of the outfits I wore to Alt Summit last year. I felt confident and feminine and sassy in it and hope I can channel the same emotions this year.

Wish me luck!

P.S. — If you’ll allow me a brag, I am over-the-moon about the speaker line-up and schedule! I feel so proud of what our team has put together. This is going to be the best Alt yet!

  1. Oh-la-la gorgeous, thank you. The speakers and workshop outline looks brilliant. I really wish I could go but will take a look at your on line options. Brilliant idea to offer on line options, thanks again.

  2. What a wonderful line up! Stefan Sagmeister, Sarah Carey, Stephanie Morgan, Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan and more—what an amazing line up of speakers. It is everything that interests me in one conference: design, cooking, parenting. This looks amazing. If I didn’t have 2 little ones, I’d be there! Congratulations!

Can’t wait to hear all about it. I wish I was there. I could use a little inspiration. Or a LOT of inspiration.

I love the idea of grace under pressure.

    Have the best time.

  4. Prayers to you for grace. I must say, that is an amazing outfit. Serious and feminine! Silly question, how do you tie a scarf like that?

  5. Good luck…..it’s killing me that alt summit is right down the street from me…. wish I could be a fly on the wall today….. just love to learn more and take it all in!

  6. Such great style and the same in person! I’m sure you’re smashing, as always!!

Rather than feeling bad about not attending, I’ve just signed myself up for 4 alt classes. I’ve signed up before but slept through my 3 AM alarm (Which was the time needed to stay up and make the classes) — baby step: this thrills me … but, will agree your panels sound amazing!! Can’t wait to hear and watch the news. (I’m going to tie a string around my finger for Alt NYC!) HAve fun!

  7. I must say that I am pretty jealous. I really wanted to make it this year, but I am due in a week so just wasn’t going to happen. Hopefully next year.

    Good luck!

  8. Gabby, I’m cracking up because I saw that picture and thought “Wow…she doesn’t age at all from year to year!” And then I read and saw it was last year’s outfit. :)

    Best of luck! Knock’em over!

  9. I’m quite impressed with all that you do, and the first thought in my head while reading this was, “What a fantastic example for her daughters.” They have a great role model.
Attending an Alt Summit is on my list of goals. I die of envy when I see the photos, and I’m about to lose a few hours digging through the websites of the speakers. I just signed up for Keep.com, because that looks AWESOME.
    Best of luck!

  10. I have been dreaming of going to Alt for several years now and this year is my first. So far, I am blown away. I can’t tell you how impressed I am, how excited I am for the days to come … so, thank you!

  11. You look beautiful, I am quite sure you look lovely any day. I have been reading your blog….. I love it! Family fun and travel. Blessings :) I hope you had a wonderful day.

  12. Gabrielle! Your outfit is fantastic. I waited one day too many to sign up for Alt, so I’m drooling over my friend’s photos and tweets. You’ve created a show-stopper, and from what I see online, each year is better than the best. I hope to join you all next year. Congratulations and thanks for the continued inspiration.

  13. I have been following #altsummit via twitter and from what I’ve seen/heard, it sounds as though it’s been one fabulous weekend aka you guys have done an amazing job! you look lovely by the way!!! congrats on another successful conference, I hope to take part one day!

  14. It definitely was epic. Thank you for all your hardwork and many months and hours you put into it. It was a-mazing. I’m so grateful to have attended as a first-timer. I am currently staring at my computer at 11pm west coast time and am unable to process a single thing into a coherent blog post. I’m guessing it’ll be days before I can feel confident enough to attempt to highlight the event. Thank you!
