Hello, Friends. How are you? Did you have a good week? We had a full one — two birthdays (13 for Betty and 9 for Flora June), a performance of Olive’s school play, Maude hosted a brunch for a dozen friends, and we took a tour of the renovated Oakland Temple.

Because abortion has been in the news this week, my Twitter thread on irresponsible ejaculation went viral again, and I spent a good chunk of time managing that as well.

This weekend, for Mother’s Day, I requested a little trip to Yosemite. We’ve been in the Summer, Fall, and Winter, but never the Spring. And I heard the waterfalls are especially spectacular right now because we had so much rain this winter.

How about you? Do you have any good plans for the weekend? Need something good to read? Here are a few things I’ve wanted to share:

-White Americans have had near-exclusive access to a medicine that curbs the craving for opioids, a new study finds. At the same time, opioid overdose deaths were rising faster for black Americans.

-Hah! I recognized myself in this tweet. Anyone else have no interest in surviving an apocalypse?

-I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around this bizarre and frightening story about a group of kids at Sarah Lawrence College.

-When the kids opened birthday presents this week, this boardgame (we used to play it in France) was the big hit.

-Also birthday related, I tried to get helium balloons this week and after checking at 3 places found out there’s a major helium shortage. I had no idea!

-What??? A nurse in Germany, currently aged 42, is suspected of killing 300 of his patients. (NYT)

How to store your kids’ art and schoolwork.

-Anita Hill wrote an opinion piece for the NYT — Let’s Talk About How to End Sexual Violence.

-“Better Than IRL is a collection of true stories about finding your people on the untamed internet.”

-Yikes. The White House revoked almost every single press pass (including all Washington Post reporters) on an impossible new standard. (WP)

-Like me, I’m sure many of you are stunned and saddened by the death of Rachel Held Evans.

-In the same week as yet another school shooting, a massive cache of 1,000 guns was seized from a Bel-Air mansion.

-I love this so much. This couple gave birth to a forest.

“There is absolutely nothing stopping the vast majority of the American workforce from getting 8 hours of sleep.” Do you agree?

-This behind the scenes video of Lizzo making ‘Juice,’ — her Pop Anthem — is as irresistible as she is. (NYT)

I hope you have a really lovely weekend. I hope you get as much or as little out of Mother’s Day as you would like. I’m sending anyone feeling fragile an extra dose of love. I’ll meet you back here on Monday. I miss you already.
