Hello, Friends. How are you? How was your week? Are you looking forward to the weekend? I sure am. On Saturday, our family is participating in a service project at the Fred Finch Youth Center — a place that supports teens who are aging out of the foster care system. We’ll be assembling hygiene kits for the Fred Finch residents, working on landscaping, installing two park benches, and doing anything else that’s needed to help give the facilities a refresh. If you’re local, you’re sure welcome to join! It’s a yearly event, and anyone who shows up is truly appreciated. You know what they say: Many hands make light work. More details here.

Beyond that, I’m hoping for movie date night too. How about you? Anything you’re looking forward to this weekend? I’ve got some really great links for you today. Here are a few things I’ve been wanting to share:

– Another take on the incel violence that I appreciated — When misogynists become terrorists. (NYT)

– “This series…[features] mass-manufactured goods purchased from American shopping malls…restyled to highlight popular fantasies associated with ‘ethnic’ patterning and costume.”

This week there was a “kippah march” in Germany — Germans showed solidarity with the Jewish community after a recent spate of antisemitic attacks by marching together wearing yarmulkes. The photos of Muslim women wearing kippahs over their hijabs are wonderful.

– Remember our pattern on pattern photos? A reader sent me this link because the first picture looks like the same series. : )

– Bob Dorough, the musical director of Schoolhouse Rock, passed away this week. The only reason I know the Preamble to the Constitution is because of him.

– If we remade America from scratch, would 12 year olds be allowed to vote?

– A new study says people who live in diverse countries or zip codes are more helpful, in part because they identify more with people of all sorts.

– Woah. In a 14-hour operation, a military veteran whose genitals were blown off by a bomb received an extraordinary transplant — a penis, scrotum and portion of the abdominal wall, taken from a deceased organ donor.

– Hahaha! I am the one woman who has it all.

– It’s house moving season — tips to make it as smooth as possible.

– From on article about how women shouldn’t be ashamed of crying at work — “Men throw chairs, women cry. I ask you which one is better?”

– I have two trips coming up to sunny places and needed some summery sneakers, so I ordered classic checkerboard Vans, but with red checks instead of black.

– We can now create life without the need for sperm or eggs.

Apparently, there’s a thing called Spite Houses.

I hope you have the best weekend ever. I’ll meet you back here on Monday. I miss you already.

kisses,
Gabrielle
