Hello, Friends! How are you? Was it a good week for you? It felt like a usual week at our house. Work and errands and after school activities. Nothing too crazy. The big thing that happened this week is that Oscar has been gone on an Outward Bound campout since Tuesday. He gets home today and I can’t wait to see him — he seems so young to be gone that long! I sure missed my boys this week.

In other Oscar news: you may remember that his 12th birthday was last month, and you may further remember that our tradition is to take a trip — just parent and child — when our kids turn twelve. Oscar’s first wish was to swim with whale sharks, but we couldn’t make it happen. Instead, he and Ben Blair are headed to Iceland!

Tickets are super cheap right now, and it worked out wonderfully with our budget and schedule. It’s just a short trip, but long enough that they can hopefully see the Northern Lights, swim in some hot springs, and do some whale watching. A few years ago, one of Oscar’s biggest passions was the Northern Lights, and his eyes lit up when he found out he might get to see them. Crossing my fingers!

Have you ever been to Iceland? Any tips or advice? We’re all ears!

The Iceland trip was also a topic of conversation in yesterday’s Facebook Live broadcast. Ben Blair joined me and we showed off the treasures we found at the world-famous White Elephant Sale here in Oakland, and I also talked about my hairdresser and her green card.

I hope you get a chance to watch it. Maybe you can let it play in the background as you peruse the links below. : ) As usual if there are topics you’d like me to cover in a future broadcast, definitely let me know. Some helpful links to things I mention in the video: White Elephant Sale. Sseko Designs. WOW Air. And the Design Mom Book.

And now, here are a few things I’ve been wanting to share:

– Why scientists needs to learn how to draw.

– Keep those horizons broad! 34 Books by women of color that we can all read this year.

– Susan J. Fowler had a very strange (strange = awful) year working at Uber. She wrote about it here. Here’s what Uber is doing in response.

– Calligraphy text messages.

– Drone footage of the massive flooding in San Jose.

– Why some snapchat fans are leaving Snapchat.

– A 25K pod that could ease homelessness.

– The unstranslatable emotions you never knew you had.

– Need a pedicure? Ask these prisoners.

I hope you have the BEST weekend. I love the conversations we had here this week. I’ll meet you back here on Monday. I miss you already.

kisses,
Gabrielle
