My mother also suffered a massive stroke last may . I somewhat understand what you are feeling and dealing with in the care of your mother . It’s not a place we ever saw ourselves and so very hard ! My prayers are with you and your precious momma !

The warm “make tea” spot in the kitchen, the branch and prints near the stairs: love.

When I’m looking for joy, I try to find a sunny patch. Vitamin D, warmth, light… I think they all help. A quiet moment with a cup of tea and a square of chocolate never hurt anything, either. <3

I was moved by Cristina’s struggle to stay positive, and her effort to utilize her creativity to be her best self. It’s wonderful that she has so many vehicles through which to express her creativity. In my own life, I commit to living joyfully by focusing on my tremendous blessings as I find they greatly outweigh life’s unavoidable potholes. It’s by no means easy, but it’s a choice I’ve made. And the more I make that choice, the easier it becomes so that now joy is my default mechanism.

Cristina’s words spoke straight to my heart: creativity and craft as a response to depression and grief, are also a source of light for me in dark days. A while back you posted about reading books again and I find that my happiness barometer is noted when I start baking and crafting after a funk. Thank you for the lovely reminder of the importance of crafting and making.
I love the layout of the home and especially love that a home in Lake Como was featured. A couple summers ago we traveled there as a family and had the best time. Living there for 10 days was not enough and our children often ask to go back and live full time – it’s where they imagine when we dream of living outside the US for a while.
I love Cristina’s take on furnishing and decorating. It doesn’t have to be expensive and it can look and feel lovely even without a big price tag. I love the colors and light in this home – such a lovely place to grow up, live, and create.

You are so lucky to be living by a lake, surrounded by nature… As a busy mom living in the city it’s hard to find time and take my little girl somewhere away from the noise and the pollution…
It is true that living with kids can teach you so many valuable things – it is a priceless experience!

It doesn’t look staged-it looks lived in! Now that’s a house tour.
Thanks for sharing.

My grandfather is Italian, so I have a special bias. :)

I love this: “As I don’t want to spend all my time cleaning up, I’ve become more and more minimal in my style preferences; removing the unnecessary helps my housework, so ‘less is more’ is my motto.” So true!

The “Now Panic and Freak Out” sign made me laugh out loud! I think humor is what gets me through everything.

I learned something from my husband’s grandparents long ago. They appreciated the little things every single day. They loved watching birds, and they enjoyed watching their grandchildren grow up. They enjoyed the simple things, like having dessert after a good meal, and playing card games. They did big things too like taking many trips around the U.S. as well as overseas, but even on ordinary days with nothing special going on, I always witnessed them as being happy and grateful for what the moment brought. From them, I learned that finding joy in the simple daily happenings of life brings contentment, peace, and happiness. They greatly loved and enjoyed their family! I remember watching them chuckle at the antics of their great- grandson (my son) as a toddler with such great fondness over whatever he might do! I wondered if they were like this because they lived through the great Depression as younger people, and they came to know later on that they were very blessed every single day. Because of my observation of their wonderful attitudes, this is why I always say my favorite days are the ordinary every days. And now as I sit at my window typing on my computer, I enjoy the simple things too, like watching the snow fall outside, and listening to my son singing in the kitchen. And I feel blessed and happy inside!
