So fun! I’m delighted to be participating in the Holidays Made Merrier series on the Pottery Barn Kids Building Blocks blog. Each week in December, a featured blogger is sharing their family’s holiday traditions, and gift ideas too!

To make the series even more festive, Pottery Barn Kids is giving away a $500 gift card to one lucky winner each week. (Now that’s a big prize!)

Check out the Building Blocks blog to find the contest, and to read how we make Christmas morning magical at our house. Head on over right away to enter the contest — the giveaway ends 12/22.

Entered over on building blocks. Just wanted to wish you and yours a Merry Christmas, and to say I LOVE your three presents idea. I’m totally going to do that for my twins. They are only 14 months right now, so I have to say, they are getting car seats for Christmas this year, ha. We just had to buy new ones. But once they know what’s up, I will definitely be doing the read/wear/play gift idea. Perfect.

Yay! So glad you like it. It’s been a good guideline for our family for many years. It curbs my shopping for sure!

I so love your thoughtfulness when planning christmas day for your children! The low lights, sounds and smells just sounds lovely …. your children are blessed to have such a mother.

Great contest! Ok, so I have 2 unrelated comments/ questions:
1. This picture at the top- they totally took your idea of the vintage European car! Did you help design this ad?
2. I was reading a magazine last month (Real Simple, maybe?) and there was an insert for a card-printing company. I can’t recall which one just now. Anyway, they used one of your family’s pictures from the France vintage-car shoot as their model card, but with a different family name. I said out loud, “No, that’s the Blairs!”. Did they do that with your permission, or without? (I guess it would help if I remembered the name of the company.) :-(
Anyway, glad to see your good taste is being recognized. :-)

Fun questions!

1) Hah! I didn’t help design the ad, and have no idea if they saw our photo shoot before they came up with it, but it is fun to see how similar it is! (I also saw a catalog from Red Envelope this year and wondered if they had seen our vintage car photos — again, so similar!)

2) You’re thinking of Tiny Prints! They used our photos as the focus of their holiday campaign this year. In Real Simple, Dwell, Martha Stewart Living, and all over the web. (Hint: Watch my Pinterest boards because I’m hosting a giveaway for them very soon!)

Already entered on the PBK site. Thank you.

I like the idea of giving some meaning to presents as you have. Can I admit that my husband does all the kid Xmas shopping for our kids and still be considered an adequate mom? We do a lot for charities over the holidays and it is hard for me to get psyched to buy things for my kiddos when I have contact with so many who are in need. One tradition I do cherish is our family tradition of an Xmas limerick treasure hunt. My husband and I come up with silly limericks as clues to find presents (we laugh and laugh and have so much fun making these up) and the kids LOVE hunting for their treasures.

Btw thanks for your suggestion of the PB teen red cabinet previously on your website. I snatched one of those babes up and it is a perfect storage cabinet for my sewing room. :) See it here: http://entropyalwayswinsblog.com/2013/12/10/a-cabinet-and-a-quilt-top/
