However, I strongly disagree with your point of view: Having lived in Cambridge, UK for a whole year I couldn’t find the same kind of mouthwatering, creative sandwiches you can have in NY, Boston, Philly,… anywhere apart from 1-2 locations where “decent” sandwiches are served.

If you’re visiting again soon – you must check it out (along with the poutine fries).

My favorites include: Meatball sub (with lots of cheese), Thanksgiving sandwich (turkey, stuffing, and cranberry relish on white bread), and an extra messy Reuben. If you’re in the Bay area, The Refuge is THE place to go for a Reuben: http://www.refugesc.com.

Wheat Bread + Mayo on both sides + Pastrami + leftovers sauteed onions and red peppers (from fajitas last night) + Avocado

It kills every time!

My dad was the ultimate sandwich maker in our house and each payday, he would splurge on meat, cheese, condiments, and good bread. I’m always on the hunt for a great sandwich.

PS…I whole-heartedly agree with Linnea. You MUST visit the Puget Sound region.

I compiled all my favorite recipes into a blog post here: http://plumfieldshop.blogspot.com/2012/05/fancywiches.html
Your breakfast sandwich description has me wanting to run to the grocery store right now!

Grabbed a sandwich there this summer while wondering around. It was so good. Here at home in NC, our local co-op sells sandwiches from 11-2, they are named after different counties or cities in NC. Just thinking about a few of them makes my mouth water.

I’ve never been, but we hope to come visit at some point… just to check it out! Now I have two reasons: tourism and sandwiches. (Clearly one of these is more important than the other.)

I recently happened upon Hitchcock Deli on Bainbridge Island, WA — their sandwiches are heavenly. Their BLT and reuben are mouthwateringly incredible. I always go with a friend, so we can go halfsies and sample two of their amazing creations. It’s a must-go location if you’re ever in the Northwest (and the ferry ride to Bainbridge is pretty awesome, too).

Shoot me an email if you’re local. I’m happy to show you around the kitchens here. I’m assuming you can see my email in the comment form? If not, let me know.

The owners met working as test cooks at Cook’s Illustrated (where I work). My favorite sandwich is the broccoli rabe.

Here on the coast of NC, we have a Subway… and don’t get me wrong, I’m no food snob. I can really love Subway sometimes. But that’s just it… it’s sometimes. And only sometimes.

My mama makes a grilled cheese that I swear is magical – and I recreate it it diligently all the time. She swears mine tastes better, but there’s something about hers that is just… perfect.

I could have a good sandwich for every meal and be completely satisfied and happy. Sadly, we haven’t found a go-to sandwich place here in Eugene. It’s a college town, so surely there’s a good sandwich place hiding somewhere in this city!

And the English sandwich is something to behold. It is often a hybrid between a simple french baguette sandwich and English hearty sensibility. But if you want to get any kind of food-to-go in Cambridge it had better be before three in the afternoon or you are out of luck.

Just something about them, the grilled bread, the mayo, the love put into it? I don’t know. It was always great. If he offered to make you one, you always jumped at the opportunity.
