Happy Independence Day!

July 4, 2013

Image and text by Gabrielle.

It’s the 4th of July!! Our niece and nephew arrived on the ferry from England last night, and we are taking them to see the D-Day sites today. The best sort of July 4th outing.

I hope you’re enjoying the day with friends and family. I wish you BBQs and Fireworks and Parades! Yay for America!!

America! America!
God mend thine every flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self control,
Thy liberty in law.

— from America the Beautiful

P.S. — Our first 4th of July in France was spent at the D-Day beaches, too. Since that day, we’ve been back over 20 times. It’s strange to think today may be our last visit.

I absolutely love each and every time you take visitors to the D- Day sites. What a patriotic thing to do on Fourth of July! I was so moved visiting that I simply cried and gave thanks to the bravery of our troops.

Happy 4th Gabrielle. You didn’t happen to go to the D-Day beaches on this D-Day did you? My brother Harrison played bagpipes there this year and last. I imagine it was absolutely beautiful. I hope you had a marvelous day with your family.

In Canada, it’s Canada Day, and I really wish we had a name like the U.S. does for our official day for our country. Well, anyways, happy Independence day to you too!.

Oh wow – your oldest daughter looks just like you. At first glance, I thought it was you in the photo! Happy (belated) Independence Day!
