A Few Things

Falaise, Normandy, France

Image and text by Gabrielle.

Hello, Friends! How are you? Are you ready to welcome June tomorrow? We’ve had house guests this week and have had a wonderful time playing tour guide. The photo above was snapped at the top of Chateau Falaise. It’s one of my favorite places in Normandy — it’s never busy, but has a top notch, very high-tech museum. I feel like I learn more history from a visit there, than I did in a year of high school.

What are you up to this weekend? Anything fun? The main thing I want to do is weed! I’m in the mood to get some dirt under my finger nails. But if it rains, maybe I’ll just watch a movie instead. : ) While I track down my  gardening gloves and trowel, here are a few things I’ve wanted to share with you:

- Toast as art.

- Internet safety cheat sheet.

- This thank you card service looks good — this video shows how it works.

- A 3-D food printer by NASA.

- Today (Friday) is the last day to enter my very first Instagram contest. Win fame and fortune! Well, an iPad mini. But still!

- Speaking of Instagram, 7 cool things people are doing with the app.

- A rad nursery.

- Maude sent me this. Ben Blair and I have listened to it a dozen times, and we laugh so hard every time! It sounds exactly like Will Ferrell.

- The history of marbles.

- Have you read Liz’s thoughtful posts on secondary infertility?

- Butterfly houses.

- The winning video from the Olive Us video contest. It’s a good one!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and greet June with open arms. And I hope June hugs you right back. I’ll meet you back here on Monday. I miss you already.

Oh, what a gorgeous French village -beautiful! And we had lots of plans for the weekend, but that was all before husband got sick. And we all know what it’s like when men are sick… So he needed not only 1 but 3 nurses! Luckily both my daughters have been marvellous (and much more sympathetic than I). Meanwhile, as you were planning, there has been some weeding. After 2 weeks of rain, our urban garden has transferred into a jungle! It took us two days to sort it out.
The weather is clearing up now, husband on the mend and we’ve picked up some tasty produce from our local butcher. Finally weekend! :)

Hi! My name is Gabrielle… just like you! :) I am the author of the teen art and inspiration blog http://www.projectpaperie.blogspot.com One of my key goals is to connect teen readers with positive role models through my “Meet an Artist” posts. I was wondering if you would be willing to share the link to my website to help reach teens with the stories of artists who have overcome various challenges to make a positive difference in the world. Thank you!

P.S. I love the winning Olive Us video! It’s beautiful!

Your photo of Chateau Falaise reminds me of the castle at Carcassonne, which we visited a couple of months ago as a family. I’m not sure there’s anything quite like a French chateau-fort!–either for delighting the eyes or for stirring the imagination. Such fun it’s been, visiting the castles of Spain and France with our two teenage daughters and nine-year-old son during our sabbatical in Barcelona. We’re trying to pack in as many castles as we can before we leave for the States again in July.
