Exciting news: Olive Us is hosting a video contest! Make a video of your family, inspired by an Olive Us episode, and you could win fame and fortune! Well. Maybe not fame and fortune. But the top videos will be featured on the Olive Us newsletter and website. And the grand prize is a Kindle Fire HD!
The contest was announced last week and there have already been some excellent entries. The panel of judges is definitely going to have their work cut out for them. Entries are due April 30th, and you can find all the contest details here.
If you’re intimidated by making your own video, don’t be. The judges aren’t expecting a professional production. But they hope you’ll capture some footage that will be a great treasure for your family for decades to come. To get you inspired, here’s a video that 15-year-old Ralph shot and edited about a family outing — it’s called Blackberries.
Isn’t that great? I hope it inspires you to make a video and enter the contest. For movie-making tips, be sure to subscribe to the Olive Us newsletter — for the next several weeks, it will be filled with helpful steps that will get you in the movie-making mood.
P.S. — Craving more blackberries?

Wow! Ralph’s movie was unbelievably beautiful. The kid’s going places! I know this was not your intention but I am now more intimidated than ever ;)
Hah! Oh dear.
Ralph promises this is very doable. He said it didn’t take long to film, and that he used iMovie (the free editing software on our Mac) to put it together.
But I agree that it’s beautiful! I think he did an amazing job. I love watching his filming skills improve!
Yup, I agree with Kirsty above. Ralph’s video is like a professional one!!!! What program does he use–to get words? to make the time lapse part? to insert the music?
Very good, Ralph! You should be so proud!
All the credits and the editing (including the time lapse part) are in iMovie. He said he did try something new with the title — he looked up an online tutorial created it in Adobe Illustrator.
I’ll make sure Ralph sees your kind words!
I love the video! The lighting is awesome.
Could you tell me the artist/song that Ralph used in the background?
what fun!
I adore your Olive Us videos and can’t believe what a talent Ralph is. Well, really, I guess I can considering the gene pool from which he spawns. Darn you Blairs! :)
this gives me the perfect excuse to finally piece together our “winter” video & NYC weekend that has been waiting to be born. What a great idea to encourage others to capture their own in film.
brilliance again!
best,
d.
Where is Olive?
Oh that was a wonderful video by Ralph! Those glistening sun shots were gorgeous. Then the final shot with the blackberries and milk, I have never tried that but it looked delicious. I have a craving for blackberries now and I am not pregnant. Ha!
I wanna take part in the contest! Just to confirm, is it open to participants worldwide?
Your family collection has been just adorable. Ralph has talent – I love his colors and framing — a great story telling in the making! (PS. Oh what a fun idea…thanks for sharing)
I just loved Ralph’s video! I’m definitely going to convince my family to make one for the contest!
I also LOVED Ralph’s video. I can taste the berries and they are DELICIOUS!
