Matthew Picton sculpts cities from books and materials related to that city. Jerusalem was built from the New Testament, Torah, Koran, and the Armenian Bible. Dresden is made up from a score from Wagner.
If you were to create a sculpture of your city, what would you make it out of? I’d make Brooklyn out of thousands of ironic mustaches and tiny ugly sweaters.

Boston could be sculpted with… empty cans of Guinness and cobblestone?
and the Declaration of Independence!
Ha ha. Danielle and Amy, very clever!
awesome!
Manhattan would be ‘The NY Times’ and aluminium foil (from the hot dogs)
Discarded metro cards and scaffolding? Elizabeth, I love that one. Would you believe I had never eaten from a street vendor until this Fall? It was seriously delicious. Chicken and rice and salad in front of the MET.
That Brooklyn one is amazing and perfectly accurate. I would add some jars of small-batch jam or pickles.
Organic baby food puree and Dansko clogs? :)
This is so beautiful. I love this concept. Los Angeles. Perhaps discarded sunglasses and palm tree fronds?
Snowballs. (It’s all of 6 degrees today.)
(Fahrenheit, that is.)
So cold! I can’t complain. We’re in the thirties today.
Sacramento would have to be from railroad cars (end of the Union Pacific line) and gold nuggets.
The Brooklyn comment made me literally laugh out loud.
Dallas…hmmm… silicone? Neiman’s receipts? Deep friend batter? It’s hard to say.
hahahaha!
New Orleans out of Mardi Gras beads is the obvious answer, right? So let’s go with the large sheets of plain white paper used to wrap up po-boys. Or make it out of go-cups. Anyone know what those are?
