Would you buy a dress online even if you had never seen a photo — only an illustration? Kimberly Ellen Hall is an illustrator and designer selling vintage women’s clothing on Etsy. Instead of traditionally taking product shots of the items, she’s drawing each piece and using those illustrations as the product images. When you buy the dress, you also receive the illustration! What do you think? I think Nottene is a really amazing idea.
P.S. — Kimberly has done some pretty amazing work. I love her Space Invaders print and men’s suit constructed out of newspaper!

Space invader tee’s totally cool.
Oh yeah. Are you a nerd too? :)
Gorgeous illustrations. Hard to imagine that the dresses will live up to them x
Thanks Rilla!!
Seems like such a gamble, is she drawing the body true to the size of the garment? If it doesn’t fit right, at least you would have a neat illustration… The idea is interesting, and one to try if you had extra cash to spare and weren’t too crushed if it didn’t fit.
Hi Andrea,
I put all the garment measurements in the listing so that fit shouldn’t be too difficult. And I do draw true to size, I have a model who tries on all the clothes for my illustrations. (Sisters are the best!). But checking the measurements is the best way to make sure anything fits when you buy clothes online. Hope that helps!
Thanks kim! It really is neat what you are doing! Good Luck!
I think that is such a great idea….so inventive and creative. Her work on her site is really cool too. Risky but, so cool!

I agree! I like the spunk and uniqueness.
I love it. Remember the old J. Peterman catalogs? I think this is even better.
I agree! I think this is super cool.
Emily, totally!
This is such an amazing concept! It raises shopping for vintage items online to the sublime.
