When I was single, I used to make a point of spending every Thanksgiving alone (although I lived in the US as did my parents, since we’re not American, Thanksgiving isn’t a huge holiday for us, so it was no big deal if I chose to stay home for the holiday). It was lovely: I’d make myself a vegetarian Thanksgiving meal (everything but the turkey), and if it was cold, I’d light a fire and eat it in my living room while I read a good book.

Now that I’m married and my daughter is American, we always make sure to celebrate Thanksgiving for her — but to be honest, I miss my solo holidays. I strongly recommend the practice of taking one holiday for your own, if you have the luxury of doing so. It can be positively divine.

You never disappoint me when picking special topics to present to this blog. I really love this and the story you shared. It takes so much courage and love for yourself to make this choice.
