Danny & Annie

October 29, 2012

By Gabrielle.

Every once in a while, someone tells a story that becomes more than the words in it. This is one of  them.

I’ve sat here, my fingertips floating above my keys, trying to find the letters to tell you how wonderful and mood-sweetening this is and how it’s truly the very definition of a forever love, but I can’t say it any better than this: “I always said the only gift I have to give you is a poor one…and it’s myself…and I always gave it…and if there’s a way to come back and give it, I’ll do that, too.”

StoryCorps is a lovely, lovely site.

P.S. — I’m starting with this New York story today, because the Eastern Seaboard is on my mind. To my friends in the path of Hurricane #Sandy, I’m praying you’ll stay safe and warm and dry.

What a neat site! I love that you get to hear their voices telling it.

They show these on my local PBS channel. This one never fails to make me tear up. Beautiful love that you can hear in their voices.

I was fine until I could hear his voice shaking, then busted out in the ugly cry! I love stuff like this. Thank you.

The ugly cry visited me as well.

Me too, especially when he talked about walking her down the aisle.

“I walk in with you, I walk out with you.” I’m crying over this gorgeous love. Thank you for sharing, it is a beautiful story.

We should make that into a poster.

I am so grateful that there are people in the world who not only are willing the share their own tender stories, but that there are people who see the cultural value in such stories and use their talents to amplify all of those voices.

I’m so impressed with the work of story corps. Just amazing stuff!

Lovely story; wonderful voices. My husband and I, after 53 years of marriage, are in our twilight years with diminishing health. Life – and love – on the other side of the veil will eventually be part of our story also.

I absolutely loved this since I first saw it. It’s inspiring.

StoryCorps is amazing. The link below is Danny and Annie’s story on NPR. You can see what they looked like in real life and read some of the condolence notes Annie received when Danny died.

The tributes that StoryCorps produced after 9/11 are incredibly touching as well. I would encourage everyone to go to their website and view the episodes.

My daughter’s school does a school-wide core project every year, and this year they are doing something similar to StoryCorps. I can’t wait to see what they come up with.
