Sneak Peek: Olive Us

May 2, 2012

Oh my goodness! I have butterflies as I type this. I’m so excited about it. And nervous too! Remember when I mentioned we had a video crew at our house a couple of weeks ago? The crew goes by Tiger In A Jar, and they are amazing! Here’s a sneak peek of what we’ve been working on with them. Don’t worry, it’s short. : )

What is it? A new weekly web series called Olive Us that will launch mid-May. A series that we hope parents and kids will love! I’ll tell you more about it next week as we prep for the official “launch” (launch = show the first episode). But for now, I’m just so excited to share the trailer!

And if you watch the trailer, tell me, please: Are you intrigued? Does it appeal to you? I’d love to know! By the way, Ben Blair’s cousin, Geoff Groberg, did the fantastic music. And most of the adorable props are from Pottery Barn Kids — they’re sponsoring the first 3 episodes!

P.S. — I snapped the image above during one of the episode shoots. I call it: Tiger In A Jar In A Field.

I am in love with this. Capturing these sweet little moments so beautifully is genius. I watched a few of the Tiger in a Jar clips and it really captured me. I wanted more. It simply makes you happy. That is what brings me back to you every day. You brighten my day and inspire me to be better with my own family. Can’t wait to see these continuing short films each week. Thank you!!

Me too! I’m totally in love with this. Your children crack me up – reminds me so very much of my childhood; one brimming with creativity, adventure and somehow coupled with old-fashioned sensibilities.

Cannot wait for the launch!

loooooooooooove it! I can’t say that I was totally sure what this was about after the trailer (other than maybe life on a french farm) but i guess that’s where the intrigue kicks in. Totally love the film work and the children are adorable. I was actually thinking on my flight home from my reunion in Italy that I completely regreat that I didn’t think to hire someone like Tiger in Jar just to film our class 10 years on – note to self for the 15 year reunion!

I AM intrigued! I can’t wait to see more. Your kids are simply gorgeous. Also, I got slightly teary (don’t worry, everything makes me teary these days) to think of how lucky your oldest boy is to have an experience like this at his age, with his interest in filmmaking. He’s already got a foot in the door and contacts and he’s, what, 13? You are really, really good parents.

Very cute. I like the music alot!
Question for you…and maybe you’ve addressed this before but I’m a new reader… how do you reconcile exposing your kids and their lives on the world wide web? Does this bother you at all? Do you wonder if they are going to be p.o’d when their are older that complete strangers will know all these things about them? I’m not trying to be mean or snarky… I’m seriously curious. I have a child who has been approached a number of times to be in TV ( we live in nyc). While I’m flattered, and agree that my child is a good looking little ham, I really can’t bring myself to put him ‘out there’. My natural instinct is to protect him, teach him about privacy and to teach him not to share too much with strangers. Many friends agree with my approach, many think I’m a bit paranoid.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this subject.
Thanks!

Of course I’m intrigued! Beautiful setting, beautiful children, beautiful music and creative minds. I read on your sisters blog about what amazing parents she thought you and Ben were, and how HAPPY and passionate your kids were and it really resonated with me. It’s just what I hope for my little ones, so I’m excited to see more of ‘Olive You’, what ever it may be about:) Congrats!

I am really looking forward to next week :)

The trailer doesn’t reveal much – I have no idea what the show is about, who (just your kids?), or even its genre. Are you doing a new kind of family-friendly reality show? Is it about travel? Daily life in France? Is it a fun little scripted series?

The editing and photography made me smile – without having any of the answers to the questions above, I really am curious to know more. Knowing you, I’m sure it will be totally original and clever. Way to go, Blairs! :)

Beautiful, well-made video with music that is spot on. Absolutely loved that scene with June!

I am intrigued, but I wish the trailer would say a bit more what exactly “Olive Us” is all about – is it gonna be traveling with kids or making crafts or what. For me, now it’s just a pretty video giving a sneak peek at your family, but telling more about the “purpose” – that would make motivated to watch the whole series.

gabby – r u kidding? we are ALL intrigued by anything you do, silly! I’m just so in love with the surroundings that seem to unfold everywhere you live…truly every wall, fence, field, road, structure seems magical. And what I love most is that you all seem to be so grateful for it and savoring it. When I watched June walking with the wheelbarrow I thought of her as an adult watching it for herself. “This is when I was almost 2 living in France.” I hope “Olive Us” is about families that love life and the little moments we share that are so special. The real stuff of life. Will stay tuned!

What a sweet little video. :) The trailer doesn’t really help me know what the full episodes will be like, but I’m sure I’ll watch them… as long as they’re not too long. Haha. :) I would probably only show them to my kids if I knew there was going to be either a comedic moment or something new/interesting that I wanted them to learn about. I’m afraid my kids wouldn’t “get it” otherwise.

I’m looking forward to seeing more!
