Birthday Week

May 10, 2012

I’m sure I mentioned this last May as well, but this week is celebration overload for our family. Flora June’s birthday comes first, then Betty’s is next (she had breakfast in bed this morning). Then, Mother’s Day jumps on at the end. It’s a lot!

The funny thing is, we have similar weeks throughout the year. Maude and Ben Blair have birthdays a few days apart in March. Ralph and Olive have birthdays right next to each other in August. And my birthday falls near Father’s Day every June.

Do you have any weeks like that at your house? And just curious — do you like the month and day of your birthday? If you could change it, would you? What date would be ideal?

P.S. — Happy Birthday to Betty Blair — she’s now six! I can hardly believe it. She was 2 months old when I started this blog. We’ll be hosting a little birthday party for her in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to it!

Happy Birthday Betty.

Funny, I started my blog when my boy was 2 months as well :)

2 Stephanie@GlassPeacock May 10, 2012 at 4:14 am

We have weeks just like that. Our daughter was born on our first anniversary…so meaningful to have her come to us that day. It’s a very special day in our house! Our son’s birthday falls the week of Thanksgiving. His lungs were underdeveloped and he had to stay in the NICU for a week…so every Thanksgiving is now a little more special. Our extended family has crazy birthdays, too. My cousins (siblings) were born 364 days apart on Christmas and the day after, while their brother’s and parents’ birthdays all fall the same week in February. And I have another cousin who was born on July 4th…imagine, a nation celebrating your birth with fireworks every year!

I’ve always loved the unique coincidences surrounding birthdays in our family!

My two kids have birthdays the same week. When they were very small we did one party. So many of our daycare comrades had kids the same age as both of them that it worked very well. Now that they are 7 and 5 that doesn’t work anymore. Even at two years old, my son was certain he didn’t want a baby sister for his birthday! I’m glad she held out a few more days.

June is our month of birthday bonanza! My son’s birthday is June 8th, my daughter June 26th and my birthday June 28th. I still remember celebrating my birthday in the hospital after the birthday of my daughter. I have to say … having a child is the best way to celebrate…EVER! I laughed with my husband saying my birthday will forever be a shared event….and I love sharing the celebration with my daughter. As she grows older we find more and more fun things to do together. This year we are requesting dinner out at a fondue restaurant…can’t wait! Oh…and Father’s Day too…it’s a good thing our wedding anniversary is in September!

Almost 4 yrs ago, my 4th son was born days from my 1st son’s birthday date. My oldest was not very excuted about the possibility of sharing hos date then. Now I am expecting my 5th son 2 days after my first son’s birthdate and all he talks about is how he wants to have this guy born right on the same date. I am always enduced so it can happen. It’s amazing to me how a few years has changed my eldests attitude toward his birthday from one of “all mine” to “the more the merrier”.

6 Anne May 10, 2012 at 4:30 am

Excited- not excuted. Oops :)

7 Lori H May 10, 2012 at 4:39 am

My daughter’s birthday is 12/23 and my husband’s is 12/29 – add in Christmas Eve, Christmas and New Year’s and you have a busy time!

8 Béa May 10, 2012 at 4:52 am

We have at least one birthday around us every day between May 21 and 28.
and as for me, I was born on Sept 23….nine months after Christmas. Day of Saint Constant in France. (not a bad thing to strive at being.. in life, relationships etc.) so, I’m liking this date indeed!

9 Amanda Daybydqy May 10, 2012 at 5:55 am

All my kids have their birthday within days of one my family members. And in fact, mine was just an hour off from being on my aunt’s. I used to love my birthday (in March), but since they changed daylight savings time, it’s so close now… It’s kind of a bummer.

I forget how I came across your blog but it doesn’t matter. What matters is that I found you and you’re creativity brightens up my day. I love this photograph. You are are very talented; keep up the good work!

We do! September is our month. Both my husband and I have birthdays, as well as, his mother, one of his brothers, a niece and a sister in law (3 of them are days in a row). My parents birthdays are one week apart in November and my brother and daughter are only 3 days apart.

14 The New Diplomats Wife May 10, 2012 at 6:09 am

happy birthday betty!

we have one big month like that: my dad, my mom, our nanny (part of the family!), my daughter, me, my niece, my husband, and my brother bringing up the rear, all within december (well my dad is last days of november and my bro is a couple days after the end), then after that, we have two in feb, and a couple sprinkled throughout the year. Add in Christmas and New Year’s and December is a pretty big month around here. But I think we’d still keep it – something nice about celebrating all together so many times right when the time of year is the toughest.

15 rochelle May 10, 2012 at 6:34 am

I love my b-day in June (too) – I’m such a gemini at heart. September, for my wider family, is always big with what seems like hundreds of birthdays and anniversaries…it always culminated in one giant party when I was kid. If I could change a birthday, I would put my son’s b-day in a month other than January. It is so close to christmas, it is really hard to to have the outside b-day parties I love to host and I just haven’t been able to figure out how to embrace it.

16 Lauren May 10, 2012 at 6:45 am

I have always loved having a birthday in May! The weather is perfect and everything is in bloom!
We have a super busy birthday time in our family as well- out of my husband and my ten immediate family members, seven of them have birthdays in January and February. It always feels like we’ve just finished all the holiday madness before we have to start mailing out birthday cards every other day!

17 Michele May 10, 2012 at 6:52 am

We have a spectacular birthday week in July. July 22 is my husband’s, July 24 is my twin sister’s, July 26 is my grandmother’s and July 27 is my sweet daughter Lillian’s birthday,….Whoo.

18 Annie May 10, 2012 at 6:53 am

Yup, crazy weeks here, too! Our son was born 4 days after me and our daughter was born 4 days before her father… Celebration times for sure!!

19 megs@thisweekendlife May 10, 2012 at 6:55 am

Being 6 is fun, Betty Blair! Happy Birthday!

And, man, could those neon sneakers be any cooler?

20 Sandra May 10, 2012 at 6:57 am

May is our month. My husband’s birthday, my birthday, mother’s day, our wedding anniversary, and my father-in-law’s birthday. Phew! I wish they were a little more spread out, especially for our six year old daughter who loves to celebrate anything! It’s a lit of homemade cards and decorations at once.

21 Emily May 10, 2012 at 7:12 am

February is our month. First it’s Valentine’s Day, then our anniversary 2 days later, My son’s birthday on the 26, my cousin’s birthday on the 27th, and my other cousin (more like a sister) on the 28th. My birthday is in January. I’ve always liked it, but just once I would have liked to have a birthday party outside in the pool, instead of in a snow storm. I did get a snow day on my birthday once though, and i thought that was the best gift ever! Fell on a Friday that year! 3 day weekend anyone?? ;)

22 Cheryl Burchett May 10, 2012 at 7:17 am

I have aChristmas week birthday and I don’t like it! As a crafter, I am too busy making things for gifts and my day gets lost in the shuffle. One year my sister surprised me with an un-birthday celebration in October. I LOVED ever minute of it! I went the opposite direction and had two kids in the summer ( a half year from Christmas). I’m sure my kids will complain that they can’t see their school friends for their birthday or something!

23 Allgirls May 10, 2012 at 7:51 am

August is a crazy month in our family: my brother, a cousin’s husband and 2 cousins (different families) are all Aug 3. My mom and dad are both a couple of days later but on the same day and 2 sister n’ laws are August 20 and 21. Another brother is July 22. Oh, and my ex fiance was August 13. A crazy few weeks. My Aunt also has 3 sons all born within 7 days of each other in February (over 10 years). Me, I’m a Christmas baby, Dec 25, and I hate it – when I was little it meant I never had a party on my actual birthday which always really bothered me and as an adult it sort of passes unnoticed with all the busyness of the season.

24 mrsblocko May 10, 2012 at 8:01 am

My daughter and I have birthdays 9 days apart, right around the start of school so that feels crazy sometimes.

25 Barchbo May 10, 2012 at 8:15 am

Happy Birthday, Betty! I have loved watching you grow!

My birthday is usually near or on Mother’s Day but my philosophy is: if you are living well, every day feels like a birthday because it’s such a blessing to have another day! Plus, I certainly never thought I would be celebrating Mother’s Day so it’s a real bonus!

26 Andrea Freeman May 10, 2012 at 8:21 am

We have a couple of weeks like yours, back to back birthdays but my May! 9 celebrations. 3 mothers day and 6 birthdays. When I found out I was pregnant with my May baby, I hoped to deliver early! :). It is a fun and busy month, the celebrations keep coming!

27 Gina May 10, 2012 at 8:23 am

Happy Birthday to Betty! Enjoy your crescendo week!

28 Eryn May 10, 2012 at 8:24 am

Happy Birthday to Betty and Flora June, it’s amazing how fast the time goes!

December is like that for our family, my husbands birthday is the 23rd, our oldest son is on Christmas day and then of course we have all the seasonal festivities added in.

29 Jyll May 10, 2012 at 8:40 am

Happiest birthday to your girls! And a very happy Mother’s Day to YOU!
Our birthday intensive month is March. We’ve got birthdays on the 1st, 4th, 7th and 18th!
I like my birthday – 11/22. It’s easy for my husband to remember and sometimes falls on Thanksgiving Day (as it does this year) which means pumpkin pie for birthday cake!

30 Stephanie May 10, 2012 at 8:51 am

Happy Birthday, Betty! We have plenty of weeks and days like that in our house, funny how everything seems to happen at once. My birthday and wedding anniversary are on the same day!

31 Meaghan May 10, 2012 at 8:59 am

My family’s month is August. My birthday is 15, my mom’s is the 22, my aunt’s is 23, my grandma’s is 31st. Plus my Aunt & Uncle’s wedding anniversary and my grandparent’s wedding anniversary is in there too! So of course I’m planning my wedding for August as well :)

32 bdaiss May 10, 2012 at 9:07 am

October. The whole month! Son 10/11, anniversary 10/12, hubby 10/13, daughter 10/22. Also in there: my brother’s anniversary 10/15, my dad 10/25 and my cousin 10/27. And Columbus Day (or Native American Day as it’s called here.) It’s just a whole month of party.

Me? July 8th. Always loved it. Pool parties for my birthday and a flow over of fun from the 4th of July. (Fireworks!) And I NEVER had to go to school on my birthday.

Happy happy happiest of birthdays Betty and June!

33 Adrian May 10, 2012 at 9:14 am

We have a similar situation at my house. My birthday, my husband’s birthday and our wedding anniversary are all within a week and a half of each other. :)

34 Katie May 10, 2012 at 9:22 am

My twin boys were born on Christmas Day. So needless to say there is a lot going on around that time! We usually have a birthday party for them a few weeks after Christmas once all of the green and red decorations are put away and we can put up birthday balloons and focus on their birthday.

35 Robyn May 10, 2012 at 9:44 am

My daughter was born on July 4, 2010 even though I tried my hardest to push her out on the 3rd (I missed the window by 48 minutes). Baby #2 has a due date of July 9, 2012, so these kids are going to have close birthdays. I’m curious how that worked out in your family with Ralph and Olive? Do the kids always get their own party or did you ever combine them? My husband feels strongly that a kid should have their own birthday and celebration. But my nieces who are 23 months apart always celebrate their birthdays together (happily) and are interested in the same things, making party-planning much simpler!

36 Sandy May 10, 2012 at 10:24 am

My family’s birthdays are really neat… they fall in different months but the actual numbers line up on a calendar 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. Pretty cool considering that there are 6 of us! (My Dad and sister share the 22nd.)

37 Elizabeth May 10, 2012 at 10:53 am

I, will admit, LOVE the date of my birthday as it’s numbers are all even and symmetrical: 4.24.84. I don’t know why it makes a difference, but for me, it does somehow.

38 Abby D May 10, 2012 at 10:53 am

My birthday is 3/13 and I have always loved it. As a kid, it meant I got to celebrate over Spring Break. And having an occasional Friday the 13th birthday always made my friends kind of jealous…I think it was just because those days got a lot of attention anyway. The other thing that has happened within the last few years is Daylight Savings now begins within a few days of my birthday. I’m sure that wouldn’t have been a big deal to me 10-15 years ago but now…it’s actually my favorite part of the date of my birth. Oh…and there’s the onset of March Madness which always makes me happy that time of year. And, Spring officially starts on my birthday. I have always told everyone that it does not snow after my birthday (at least not usually in Kansas)….so that means it is SPRING on March 13th!

39 Megan Flowers May 10, 2012 at 10:57 am

My son turns 3 this Tuesday! We are having a party for him this Satuday and then on his birthday we are going to Disneyland ( we have passes so why not?!?!) I love his birthday! His birthday has become my favorite day of the year!!!

40 Heather May 10, 2012 at 11:23 am

Happy Birthday Betty!

I am one of 10 kids. Add in spouses for all. Then add in 3-5 children for each sibling. We have birthdays on the same days, in the same week, just before Father’s Day, just before Mother’s Day, etc. etc. It is crazy!

When I was pregnant with my first child, I was told that his birthday would probably fall in the same week as my mother’s and 2 of my sisters’ bdays. All I wanted was for my baby to have his own bday! It happened, barely…he was born the day before my mother’s bday. :)

41 Susie May 10, 2012 at 11:27 am

Joyeux Anniversaire Betty!

I think May is a GREAT month to have a birthday in! Emeralds are so beautiful :)

May is a BIG month for our family, my husband’s birthday is the 2nd, his parent’s anniversary is the 5th, then comes Mother’s Day, my dad’s birthday is the 21st, and my birthday is the 29th! And it continues into June, since our anniversary is June 7th! I thank God that my daughter was born in Autumn, she escaped the craziness!

42 kockey May 10, 2012 at 11:32 am

I am the mother of two boys, both of their birthdays are in November. In this month alone we have 4 other family birthday’s we celebrate. Add in Thanksgiving festivities, it is one busy month for us. My husband is one day older than me (36 hours to be exact) his birthday is May 18th mine the 19th. To add humor into making ‘life’ decisions in our home, he always says “The oldest one gets to decide.” I love having a May birthday! During the tween years it was the best – you purchased school clothes at the end of the Summer, you couldn’t go wrong giving me clothes as a Christmas gift and come my May birthday I received clothing to add to my Summer wardrobe.

43 Meghan May 10, 2012 at 11:35 am

My mom and brother are back-to-back in August.

All three of us siblings got married within weeks of our birthdays (my brother and I are within the week, and my sister has the biggest gap of 19 days.)

If you add up the dates of our family’s birthdays, it equals my parent’s anniversary date, so those were my mom’s lotto numbers. 2+3+4+9+11=29 (She’s never hit it big though. Boo!)

Now that grandkids and spouses have been added to the equation, almost all of their birthdates land on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 9th, 11th, or 29th of a month – I think there are 2 exceptions, out of the 7 new family members we’ve added in our adult lives.

Does it mean anything? Nah. But as a data analyst, I like the coincidences.

44 Ashley May 10, 2012 at 11:47 am

We have about 2 weeks of non-stop at our house. My new baby is due aug 10, our anniversary is the 15th, my moms b day is the 19th, husbands birthday is the 24th plus there is back to school. Good luck!

45 Summer May 10, 2012 at 11:49 am

Ha, my birthday is May 9th, and while it’s a great time of the year…..I’d prefer something different. My mom’s birthday is May 10th, and I was born on Mother’s Day, so….well, sorry Mom, it wasn’t me that got pregnant in August to trump you. So, poor Mom, I soooometimes make it to mother’s day. Also, it’s right after Cinco de Mayo, so everyone’s kind of partied out, aaaaand in college it was always during finals week. I had to take a final on my 21st birthday, and I’m still bitter about it. :P

Emerald is the BEST birthstone though, so I’m thankful for that and for the awesome weather.

46 jenny also May 10, 2012 at 12:02 pm

Betty Blair is beautiful!!

47 emily k m May 10, 2012 at 12:08 pm

our birthdays go in twos – 2 in march, 2 in august, and 2 in december (yes, december is crazy!). it’s fun, though, too.

i was born on the 27th, so was my daughter. the 27th is also my anniversary, my parent’s anniversary, and 2 sister-in-laws’ anniversary. my grandmother’s birthday is on the 27th. my son’s teacher’s birthday is on the 27th. i think that’ s it. oh wait, one more: my half-birthday is on the 27th, too. :) 27 is an awesome number in my fam!

48 Lindsay L May 10, 2012 at 12:21 pm

my birthday is july 9th and i’ve always liked it because of the way it rolls off the tongue. i’m southern so my y’s and i’s are very long i’s :)

49 vermontmommy May 10, 2012 at 12:24 pm

Yes, we do. My two oldest are 2 years and 3 days apart. My youngest is born a week before Mother’s Day. My hubby and I are 1 year and 2 days apart. So we usually celebrate a week a piece which means we have two weeks of birthdays in the winter, spring and summer. Good times if you ask me.

50 Sabrina May 10, 2012 at 12:38 pm

Aw yes… This week is a week like that for me. My son, husband, brother, and two close friends have birthdays this week. And of course there is Mother’s Day! Needless to say, there are a lot of cards & gifts purchased for this week! :)

Happy Birthday to your girls!

51 meredith May 10, 2012 at 1:03 pm

growing up, May was crazy for our family as well. my dad’s birthday on the 18th, my mom’s on the 22nd, one brother on the 23rd, and another on the 30th. then of course, Mother’s Day was somewhere in there as well, and many years we had a high school graduation mixed in for good measure! yikes!

52 Nicola May 10, 2012 at 1:37 pm

We’re all about the double birthdays here. My eldest daughter was born on my birthday in February, my youngest and my husband are just ten days apart in April and my middles, twins, of course share the same September birthday. Even the dog was born on my Dad’s birthday! I always loved having a birthday in February, it cheered up the month everyone else considers dull. It is also exactly four years six months apart from my sister’s birthday so we always had a half birthday to celebrate on each others actual birthday!

53 RENEE May 10, 2012 at 1:47 pm

My dads b-day is June 15; My sons b-day is June 16; Fathers day is the weekend next to these dates which of course would include my dad and my husband. Think about all of the cards that would mean….
Dad = bday and grandfather bday; Fathers day and grandfathers fathers day
Son = dday from parents and bday from sister
Husband = fathers day card and husband fathers day card

54 Miss Frazzled May 10, 2012 at 2:18 pm

My bday is May 16, which I thought was perfect when I was a kid. Now, it always falls near Mother’s Day. My husband is the beginning of May, so that’s fun. Then I had my kids, not exactly planned, in December, January, and February. Makes for a busy winter. I had my last kid in August, on purpose.

55 Kate May 10, 2012 at 2:28 pm

How fun! Three of our four kids have birthdays in May (the fourth kid in late March). We added a daughter-in-law, whose birthday is also in May. Now we have a granddaughter, plus another on the way, born (and to be born) in May as well. :) Throw in Mother’s day, Memorial Day for family gatherings, and an early June b-day for hubby – it all makes for a busy, happy month!

56 Lori B May 10, 2012 at 2:37 pm

Our family is full of ‘crazy times’ ! My mom and I are both right after New Year’s, three of my kids are in November (two of them only a day apart!), and my husband’s is always right around Thanksgiving (Canadian- in October).

57 Jacki May 10, 2012 at 4:29 pm

My husband and I are 2 days apart in June and we sometimes land on Father’s Day, our oldest and youngest are 2 days apart in July. Our middle was alone in Feb so she asked if we could celebrate the dog’s bday 2 days after hers! Have a great week celebrating.

58 Tasha May 10, 2012 at 6:25 pm

Hubbie and son are 3 days apart during Memorial Day weekend!! My day is Ground hog day…love it! :)

59 Heidi May 10, 2012 at 9:34 pm

May is like that for us! My brother-in-law has his birthday May 7th, My mom’s is the 11th, which is always close to mothers day. My husband and sister are on the 17th and last year we added one more, our little June Adelaide was born May 19th! My birthday is March 14th and I’ve always loved the date-I wouldn’t change it (even to a time of year when it is a bit warmer)

60 Therese May 11, 2012 at 7:55 am

We joke in our family that we can’t have a birthday without another one following right after it or even on the same day. 3 pairs share the same date and I love sharing mine as much as I love the date – right smack in the middle of the year – July 1.
By the way, I’m from Ireland and married an American. My birthday is around July 4th – his is around St. Patrick’s day. Quirky.

61 Amber May 12, 2012 at 12:26 am

I’m sure my hubby dreads every April/May. First our anniversary the middle of April, then my birthday first week of May, then Mother’s Day. He does a great job spoiling me but I’m sure it’s a bit much for him!

62 Gaby May 12, 2012 at 1:35 am

Oh I wouldn’t change my birth date for anything! I was born in September and I love my month! Now, we do have a crazy time during the year: Christmas. Just two weeks after Christmas is my husband’s b-day and our wedding anniversary, on the same day! So what we do is that we celebrate his b-day on the actual day and our anniversary on the following, just that both dates feel special ;)

63 kaela d. May 13, 2012 at 10:35 pm

I’m March 16th and I just love my birthday. My mom’s maiden name is literally “Irish” and I was born a few hours before St.Patricks day. My mom’s birthday is a couple days after :) (I also have a cousin and grandmother from my dad’s side who were born in the same week) I love my birthday because spring break was always at that time so it was like I got a birthday vacation! Plus Pisces descriptions fit me to a T…and I like it that way. ;)

64 Kate The Great May 14, 2012 at 3:14 pm

I love where my birthday is, at the end of September, and I also love June’s grey capris in that picture of yours, Gabby. That black button detail is adorable and it’s wonderfully gender neutral.

65 Mau May 16, 2012 at 2:25 pm

Happy birthday from Malta, sweet Betty! My birthday is on the 5th of June, my eldest brother’s is on the 7th, my other brother’s on the 1st and my second daughter’s on the 8th! It’s a crazy week of celebrations and I love it!
