Spa Themed Party Invitations

March 23, 2012

These are the invitations we made for Maude’s spa themed party. They would work equally well for a beauty-parlor themed party too! The bobby pins make a cute 3-D addition — and they’re a sweet little gift for the party attendees.

The invitations were super easy to make and I was pleased with how they turned out. I’ve included instructions below if you’d like to see.

Here are the simple steps:

1) Cut out the hair shape from heavy-weight paper.
I recycled some sample holiday cards from Minted — their designs always have the best patterns on the back!

2) Add a couple of bobby pins to each hair piece.
I found these cute painted pins at a funny little shop in our town. They were about $2 for a set of 20. But if you can’t find painted bobby pins, I think shiny silver would be great as well. Or you could use black and have a more sophisticated color scheme.

3) Print out the invitation text on blank cards.
I used white paper, but I think a solid color would have looked good to — maybe a yellow or bright green that would still show the printed text easily.

4) Use double-stick tape to attach the hair to the blank (no text) side of the card.

And that’s it! Super easy. Depending on the patterns, colors and bobby pins you choose, you could make these invitations glamorous, or glittery, or sophisticated — whatever works best for your event.

As for the party, we had a great time! The girls started with a 20-minute yoga video — we purchased inexpensive yoga mats so that each guest had one to use, and afterward, we handed them out as party favors. After yoga, we mashed avocado and greek yogurt together for homemade facials. Then the guests partnered up for manicures.  So fun!

Have you ever hosted a spa or beauty themed party? Were there any particular activities that were a big hit? I’d love to hear!

P.S. — Here’s a  free pdf download of the hair shape.

Oh, this looks so fun! It kind of makes me sad though – before I had surgery for it, I had hyperhydrosis in my hands, so I never got to participate in this kind of stuff when I was a girl. I remember trying (before i knew that not everyone had excessively sweaty hands) to do the girly manicure thing with a classmate in 6th grade and her saying, “Did you just put on lotion!? Why are your hands so gross!?” That’s when I got the memo that the fun girl times were o-vah! :P

I know this is an old comment you made. But I know how you were feeling girl! I also had hyperhydrosis in my hands big time. I could try them and within seconds drops would be flying around. Now I am totally into arts and crafts, things I would never have been able to do without having surgery.

Gabrielle,
I seriously LOVE this! I’ve seen unopened paraffin wax tubs at the thrift store lately and wanted a reason to buy one. I’m sure the invites were just the icing on the cake;)

I hope we’ll get to see party pics and little fingernails soon too!

SO sweet! When my daughter was really little we had a beauty parlor party and I bought the foam wig heads at the beauty supply. I wrapped a ribbon of tulle around each head and tied it in a big bow. I set out bowls of sparkles, elmer’s, old make-up, q-tips, and brushes-and let the girls transform their heads into made-up masterpieces. They had a BALL! Some glued the rhinestones on for earrings, others drew in eye lashes, some went wild with lipstick. It really was so fun!
