Design Mom Asks

February 13, 2012

Love is in the air this week, so I’m hoping to take in more than a few deep breaths of it! I’m sure we all want Valentine’s Day to be as near to perfect as it can possibly be, and I was wondering what three things would make it exactly that? A few blogging lovelies were lovely enough to answer. Enjoy them, Friends!

Jane of simple + pretty:
…a pretty pink libation, like the rose sherbet from Australia’s Belinda Black Catering, would make the perfect Valentine’s drink. I definitely have a sweet tooth, and so to go with the rose sherbet, I’d love an assortment of heart-shaped shortbreads and homemade marshmallows from Stewart & Clark. Valentine’s Day is all about pink for me. This pretty pink tee shirt from Tuss doesn’t come in my size, but I hope to find something similar to wear this spring.

Lillian of Unstitched:
…cooking a simple dinner with the man I love, enjoying the meal with him without any distractions, and then indulging in something chocolaty to finish the night!

For me, Valentine’s Day isn’t about the bells and whistles; it’s about taking a day to really appreciate the people you love. I never choose to do anything fancy that day, which saves us from fighting crowds at restaurants with overpriced fixed menus! Instead, I love staying at home and preparing a meal with my man, because then we get to enjoy the simple moments of just being together. In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, this is a day that we remember to slow down and appreciate each other. To have a day like this is a treasure.

And, because I love chocolate, I’d definitely love to end the day with some decadent, quality chocolate.  My top choices would be salted caramel chocolate truffles or dark chocolate-covered strawberries!

Emily of Name 5 Things:
…to have a little fairy come pack our house that just sold and move us out; to skip the roses and chocolate and receive a pair of Louboutin pumps instead; and to spend the day with my husband in the most romantic place ever: Paris!

Caroline of Greedy Girl:
…a few pretty, vibrant prints to help build a gallery art wall in our new home. These paintings by (clockwise from top) Molly Dilworth, Diana Delgado, and Theo Altenberg definitely fit the bill with their bright splashes of color. It’d be impossible to look at such a collection and feel anything but love!

Thank you, ladies, for sharing your brilliant wishlists. I hope they all come true. Your turn, Friends! Will you tell me the three things that would make your Valentine’s Day perfect? Write them down and let’s make sure they happen!

Only 3? hmmmm
Ok, I’ll start with a Macbook Air 13″, then a new pair of black heels for work, and I’ll finish with a homemade Valentine Card from my sweet babies!
From pricey to priceless!

Enjoy! We’re counting down for my Mother’s arrival and a family Valentine’s dinner! (so exciting: I know that you know how this is: we’ll have five family members arriving in the next week from the US. It’s so much fun to show family our everyday! Valentine’s tied in: even better!)
TUSS – love them! Swedish. I’ve met the owner and will mention your great idea: adult sizes! I’ve gotten quite a few pieces for the kids and always love their quality!
… wishing you a great Valentine’s Eve!
(and I posted a thank you and link to your incredible 3D Valentine’s. We did these last year and I could repeat them forever!)

3 things? An iphone, a heartfelt card, and a night of uninterrupted sleep. These should be easy enough to come by, right?

Let’s shoot for the moon on this one, shall we?

1 – An unexpected adventure (not the flat-tire sort, but the jump-on-a-plane-sort)
2 – A sunny afternoon sitting in a garden with the scent of green things surrounding you, maybe with a pretty picnic basket at your feet filled with savories and sweets
3 – Thoughtful gestures from the ones you love. An door opened, a Thank You said, a smile and a sticky ‘I wuv you’ from someone small.

And to really knock the day out of the park? How about spending the afternoon somewhere fun, but outside the usual, with your Sweetie? A favorite amusement park or museum would totally fit the bill, don’t you think?

Me too.

Hmmmm….three things….I find it hard to think of anything. Either I have EVERYTHING (not true!) or I don’t dream big enough, eh?

Well, here goes.

- a trip to NYC where I can wander through museums and galleries and see plays to my heart’s content
- snowboarding with my husband followed up by a lovely meal for two with our favourite foods
- an entire weekend away with other creative types where we’d be all working on our art projects during the day and having wonderful, inspiring meals together at night

Time with my husband, free from work, phones, internet, water damage, car purchases, international moves, long work hours, new businesses, church responsibilities, and everything. Just time to giggle, watch movies, walk on the beach, talk, and just..be together.

We actually get to go out to lunch tomorrow, which should be a great treat. After that, I’m looking forward to dinner with the kids (as long as they don’t complain about it) and some family time together before sending everyone off to bed early. Including myself.
It’s just the small, out-of-the-ordinary things that count. (ha ha)
