Remember when we talked about holiday greetings in video? Well there’s another video trend popping up: Birth Announcements! Linsey Laidlaw sent me the link to two really good ones. I’m posting one here and you can see the other on her blog (the video involves a police escort!). Careful, they might make you teary and emotional. : )
Have any video birth announcements shown up in your inbox? Would you ever make something like this in lieu of paper announcements?
P.S. — Here’s what we did for our birth announcements.

I think this is a great idea, especially if you have a lot of friends/family who aren’t close enough to visit and really see the baby. A picture is nice, but seeing a little video of the newborn is so exciting.
When I see post titles like this I always think the blogger is expecting, then I get a jolt of excitement and a moment later, I feel like a goofball. I think you’ll have to change the title of this post to “Announcing Baby – NOT ME!” before the rest of us start squeeing. ;)
Oh dear! Of course that’s what it sounds like. Yikes! For some reason, that interpretation didn’t even cross my mind. Too funny!
This is such a great idea. I saw a cute one posted on Facebook last year. The couple acted like they were taking a family portrait with their extended family and instead of asking them to say cheese they asked them to say “We are having a baby”. The whole time the camera was actually recording. It was neat to get to see their reaction to the good news.
That’s a really fun idea! Very “green” too! Since announcements just get thrown away anyway…and much easier as far as mailing etc. I love it! I might do this for the kids’ birthday party invites!
Both videos were so great… and indeed made me teary eyed! There is just so much pure joy when it comes to newborn babies…. they are so tiny and sweet… a whole world of possibility waiting for them! I have two children and when I see things like this it make me feel SO nostalgic for those first moments of life. Meeting your baby for the first time and introducing them to everyone…. such amazingly happy times!
ooh. that hit me HARD. When she put the burp cloth in the diaper bag and then when the Dad put the crib together. GONE.
SAME! Something about the deliberateness of the preparations.
D’oh, I was hoping you were announcing a baby! :D hahaha
Those are cute though!
Love the second one! Oh how I love Cat Stevens. I grew up with my dad putting on his music for Saturday chores. I am making a Cat Stevens pandora station.
*sob*sniff*
Oh god….this broke my heart. ( in a great way, I mean) SO beautiful and sweet.
I totally would have done this if I had thought of it! :)
xo

Both so adorable! Love that stork flying wildly through the snowstorm. This is a bit of an off chance, but does anyone recognize the green diaper bag from the first one? ;)
Oh yeah. Tears.
I LOVE it! What a wonderful keepsake for the baby. It is a beautiful video.
For announcing our second baby we took a video of my 18 month old son saying “we are going to have a baby in the fall”. It was a hit!
I’m such a paper fan so I hated this idea. But as soon as I saw that baby and the family. I cried. So precious. I would love to do this…but also a paper keepsake.
love. Such a sweet idea … but i love paper too.
Oh. My. Goodness. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
If you look at John’s site, you can see how he made a coordinating DVD packaging including a letter “supposedly written by Sophie on her personal letterhead.” Paper AND film! Best of both worlds!
What a cute idea! such a precious video.
I did a video announcement of my pregnancy. We had two miscarriages after my daughter so we waited till nearly 16 weeks to tell everyone when we finally had a pregnancy that was viable. It was Christmas and we decided no to go home to my family out of state. My daughter was 14 months old. So in the video we had my daughter say hi to each person in my family by name and then I asked her what Santa said to her – that another present would arrive in June – a new baby. It was the cutest thing. Of course, she was just learning to talk so she said “two babies” in the video and they all thought we were having twins!
I had my whole family watch it together on Christmas Eve so they were just thinking it was a cute video of my daughter wishing them Merry Christmas. They were so surprised when she announced we were having a baby. I wish I had a video of them watching it. I would have loved to see them as they were surprised!
I never thought to do it as an announcement of the birth – I love that. Video is so much more powerful than photos. And I’m stealing PP’s comment on doing birthday party invitations via video. Totally doing that!
AHHH…I got really excited at first and thought you were pregnant again ;-)
Very cute idea.
I saw this and couldn’t wait to show you mine! I had my third son after taking a break for a few (okay, eight) years, and was so ready to do something new and creative. And I had the energy for it this time around! Click on the link: http://web.me.com/kerrigroen/Site/Blog/Blog.html and then the entry that says, “We Proudly Present…”
Hope you enjoy!
“teary and emotional” – check.
Is it too late to start this project when you’re now 6 days overdue? :)
Wowee – this makes me broody!
Congratulations to Mom & Dad – and welcome wee Sophie!
She’s gorgeous.
After viewing, I’m ready to have another baby………….immediately……………….and I just had a baby two weeks ago! LOL. Why is my maternal nature only finally settling in at age 38? *sigh* Beautiful videos!
That’s such a well done and beautiful video. Somehow it just captures the amazing anticipation and awe that comes with the arrival of a brand new life/person! I certainly shed some tears and can’t believe that my 9 month year old was such a mystery..not so long ago!
