On Saturday, Flora June Blair turned one year old. She celebrated with balloons, her very own lemon tartlette and a new dress.
One of June’s presents was a set of wooden stacking rings that we bought in Amsterdam from Hema. Every one of my babies has had a set of wooden stacking rings. They’re good toys and as a bonus, they make good photo props. : )
A typical birthday celebration for us would include a home-baked cake, but here in France, it seems like a shame not to take advantage of the bakeries. June’s lemon tartlette is from our favorite bakery in the center of town.
As you can imagine, tartlette ended up everywhere. Hair, toes and clothes. She loved it!
What a year it’s been! June has been the happiest baby and I can’t imagine our family without this little person. I just reread her birth story and of course, I was teary as can be.

I loved reading her birth story also…as I am 17 weeks with # 2. Reliving all of that is great. And is making me start to picture our future delivery ;-) We will hopefully know the sex on Friday!!! Can’t wait
We are also planning on celebrating French Mother’s Day since my husband returned from a business trip Saturday and Tuesday is our Wedding Anniversary. Waiting till the 29th will make it all about ME ;-)

I love well made toys. Germany had much better toys than Italy, but that’s not terribly surprising given the cultural differences. What I love even better though is the pasticcerias dotted through the landscape. I’m sure the French have even better ones!
I cannot imagine how long it takes them each and every day to create the delicacies.
June looks like she enjoyed it very much.

I love how you named her Flora June but call her June! I’m guessing you liked the name June but June Flora doesn’t sound as melodic? I wish I would have thought of that with my second daughter. I wanted to name her Lucy but her father wouldn’t agree on it for a first name:( But I think I could have snuck it in as a middle;)
At any rate, it’s a lovely name! Although my Molly didn’t turn out to be a Lucy she IS a June too:) Molly June. and sometimes I wish she would go by June when she gets older.

I love the photo where June crinkles her nose. Was a sweetheart.
I gave each of mine their own first birthday cake. Luckily, most have warm weather birthdays as they basically needed to be hosed off (with warm water), chair and all, after they finished. Personality certainly showed in how they reacted. The quiet one explored very gingerly, while the boisterous one dove in, head first and came up with a big grin.
