Screenplay Contest

April 20, 2011

Are you a budding screenwriter? Do you have a screenplay hidden away in your desk drawer? Watch this:

To recap:
- Send a screenplay to ralphblair@gmail.com.
- The screenplay can be up to 3 minutes long. (You can read it out loud to check the timing.)
- All ages are welcome. Ralph would love to see entries from your kids!
- Ralph will pick 5 screenplays and make 5 movies using only props he has access to in our house.
- Ralph will post all 5 movies on Youtube and you will get a chance to vote for your favorite.
- The screenplay writer of the video with the most votes will win a $100 Amazon gift card. Woot!
- Screenplays are due one week from today: April 27, 2011.

P.S. — At your suggestion, Ben Blair and I have been brainstorming ways to give our kids more space on this blog. We’ve discussed different columns they might like to write and will be experimenting here and watching for feedback. For the first effort, we thought this contest would be fun for you and your kids. Watch for a DIY post from Mimi coming shortly. Let us know what you think!

P.P.S. — A big thanks to the barber shop at Intermarché for letting us film during Ralph’s haircut. (Ralph’s brilliant idea, by the way.)

Fun! I’m not a screenwriter, but I love Ralph’s ideas. And I’m definitely interested to see more clever ideas from your kids! Let me know when you’re in Amsterdam! xxx

It’s destiny! I have been writing a screenplay at work by telling it to my colleagues in installments over lunch. It’s “inspired” by real-life people in my workplace but not set at work (boring). Now I must get it on paper and submit to “Astro” Ralph Blair. Stat.

My kid is 6 months’ old, so he won’t be submitting a screenplay…yet!

This is so sweet & inspirational! I think my oldest is probably still too young, but I am sure he’ll love Ralph’s video! Great idea to include your kids in the blog. Many people seem to make the opposite choice as their kids grow older, but including them in a way that they wish to be included is perfect!

He’s got a great career ahead of himself! Wow, do I have some screenplays for you…but I think they’re a little beyond what he’s thinking. My husband has been writing screenplays as a hobby, and has actually gotten very good. He came in 3rd at the Vail Film Festival, and placed in several other prestigious competitions but we don’t know where to go from here!

Good luck to Ralph, it will be fun to see what he comes up with!

I’m sorry but your boy CRACKS. ME. UP. “I know, let’s do the video while I’m getting my hair washed!” So random and brilliant. :)

I just hope with all my heart that my children have as much creativity as Ralph does in his pinky finger. I truly admire how you and Ben Blaire foster their creativity. Now if only my 8 month old knew how to write a screenplay :)
