When I find myself going through that January-fresh-start-feeling, my first instinct is to redecorate the house. I devour interior design blogs and add to my interior design coffee table books. Then I do something new and fresh in some part of the house.

This year is so different! I’m having the same feelings, but can’t act on anything. Instead of shopping for the perfect accent piece, I’m pondering which items I should store and which things I should giveaway.

But I can’t completely help myself, so I’m still devouring interior design inspiration online. I saw these Don Freeman interior shots and was captivated immediately. So rich and deep. They feel like dessert to me.

What about you? Any interior design cravings in January, or am I the only one?

oh yeah, big time! I’m pondering paint swatches as we speak. I’ve had to put most of my redecorating plans on hold for two years, so now it’s finally go time!

In the first seven years of marriage Dr. J and I moved seven times- three times to different countries- what I LOVED about moving so often was being able to give aways stuff- It has always felt so refreshing giving stuff away especially when you are faced with: Am I going to move with this or pay to store it!?

Ha! Is that what this is? This redecorating bug is a January thing? Phew! I thought I was becoming a crazy person because redecorating is all I can think about lately. I’ve been busy repainting bedrooms, guest bath and am hoping to move to the family room next week. I found a new rug, am making new curtains…it’s crazy (but fun!). Sorting, purging, donating–all part of the excitement, too.

I find myself using January to redesign my current options. For instance : We built a built in – in the hall closet, we built a mud room, we built a new entryway…Reorganinzing and painting and recovering what we already had seemed like a better option for us.

I get it though, and january is naturally a tear the page out and start anew kind of month!

This is so funny! I just spent my youngests’ entire naptime surfing through yummy interior design sites and landed on this very one! It’s a little too like dessert for me: al bit too fussy and frilly in spots, but it’s still so pretty.
I’m so envious of your upcoming move…so wonderful. I’ll be watching.

I get those cravings every three months or so to just rearrange. It drives my husband crazy!

Eye candy…definitely :) Feel free to send some of those “giveaway items” my way!

oh man – if you had a garage sale I’m pretty sure it would be a dream of mine to get there first!!

i’m in this sweet sweet “nesting” phase in my 8th month of pregnancy. but it’s tough on a shoestring budget…i keep seeing these beautiful things and wish i could surround our lil one with such preciousness!! instead of a hip and cool nursery, I’ll settle on lots and lots of love and affection :-)
(and it might just end up hip and cool anyway…I’ve got some frugal ideas up my sleeve from the blogosphere!)

I am in my 8th month too – and I would have to be first in line at the garage sale too!

I totally have the bug. We’re finishing up renos, and the decorating part is finishing up. Next project…nursery!

Oh, I SO want to know the name of the paint color on the walls in that first photo. I’m in the throes of moving into a new home and I’m painting EVERY…THANG.

YES! I have so many plans and ideas rolling around in my head, that I don’t know what to do with them (or the moola to do anything with them). But, we too are moving this summer to NYC and so much of me says what’s the point. I’ll just wait until we get settled in our new place. I need to be better about living in the moment.

Hm…I seem to have that problem year-round.;0)

Funny, I thought those were more France photos! I’m afraid my redecorating itch sets in during April/May and September-ish. Drives my hubby batty, especially since it usually results in a “build me please” list!

I am however in the mood to clean house, get rid of stuff, de-clutter, organize, etc. Unfortunately I’m battling a stubborn head cold (week #3!) and my get up and go got up and went. Maybe next week…

I love love the contrast with the piano and the blue in the first photo… Great shots. I hope that you and your family had a great time we sure did.

I constantly have the feeling to change things. An interior designers work is never finished, it’s just ongoing.
Pondering items to give away? Send anything my way, I’d be happy to take it off your hands :)

Oh my…I’m with you…I can’t seem to stop wanting to decorate. I painted my kitchen, family room area a spring green last year. Now I am wanting to white wash the whole thing and paint all the doors black. But then I saw this image of the green room and now I am no longer sure. Maybe the photo was just to help me be content since I can’t afford to paint right now anyway!

I love the contrast of that serving ware in that hutch!

Oooh, I agree – yummy photos. Makes me want to be much less “early rustic-suburbian with 5 kids hand-me-down” and much more worldly and eclectic. sigh….
Anyway, I’m planning a “freshening” in our house this spring. I’m repainting the accent wall in our living room, repainting my girls’ room and finishing their quilts, and updating the color in my bathroom to a more warm/neutral with fresh towels, lighting, and hoping to find a really interesting vanity to replace the one we currently have.

When I saw the title of your post, I thought you were going to write about one of my favorite children’s author Don Freeman. What a surprise to see beautiful interiors! Now I have 2 Don Freeman’s works to appreciate!

I would be oh-so-disappointed if I walked into that house and it did NOT smell like the inside of a vintage, well-loved book.

Beautiful work!

Oh! I love those pictures, like how the coat rack is thick with coats and books are piled up. I adore a lived-in feel.

23 Tanya January 5, 2011 at 9:00 am

January 1st came and I wanted to redo everything from the ground up. I love change especially in home decor but I’m putting those thoughts on hold for creating a space best for a baby :). The Mexican Villa theme is now on the back burner…tear.

Pillows! I can never seem to get enough of them and the New Year always seems like a good time to change them out. Every time I bring them home my husband gives me the, ” you bought ANOTHER pillow?” look.

26 Marta January 5, 2011 at 10:44 am

Oh you are not the only one…it is January 5th and I still moving furniture around! happy new year by the way… to many days out the blogs! and congratulations on your move! you guys will have a great time!

Very Jane Austen novel-ish! Love these. My husband would never in eleventy-billion years go for something like this but perhaps I could have one room? That dining room, with the book shelves. I can just hear the chickens in the yard and the approaching rider on his horse…

I’m all about redoing my house so I can love living here. We have been treating our home as a temporary stop, but we are coming up on 3 years. It is time to really live in our house and customize it for us.

29 Sarah Jane January 5, 2011 at 7:02 pm

Beautiful and enchanting. I especially love the herringbone brick floor. This looks like a great house for reading books in.

30 Jessica January 10, 2011 at 9:31 pm

My house always seems so crisp and fresh after the holidays are all put away. So then I notice the spots of my house that aren’t so crisp and fresh, and I want to redo those. The spot that’s bothering me at the moment is a little “playhouse” space in our bonus room. If you have any ideas on a modern, hip, fun, girl/boy space that ages well so that I don’t have to do it all over again in 2 years, I’d love some inspiration. I want a fun mural, but not your traditional mural. Plus, I love design that doesn’t cost a fortune. Anyone can go out and buy lots of expensive stuff someone else tells them is beautiful, but it takes a creative person to put together something inexpensive in a new and wonderful way! Thanks for all your ideas that get the juices flowing!
