Last month, Ben Blair and his siblings gathered at his parents’ house to celebrate the 80th birthday of his father, Robert Wallace Blair.
Ben’s sister, Carol, had the brilliant idea to hire Justin Hackworth to hang out during the gathering and get candid shots of the event. So smart! — it’s so hard to be both photographer and attendee of a gathering. I love that Justin was there, recording everything with his lens, so that the Blair siblings could relax and enjoy each other’s company.
My favorite shots are the ones of the family singing. I wish I could have been there!
Justin also happened to be at our home this morning. Ben Blair and I had our 15th anniversary in August and one of the ways I wanted to celebrate was to have our portrait taken. When I heard Justin was going to be in Denver, I reserved some of his time right away. I can’t wait to see how this morning’s photos turned out.

What a thrill to see these wonderful pictures! Why do things look better on “Design Mom” than they do elsewhere???
Love and appreciation and total respect!
What a great idea! Looks like they had a wonderful time.
So I work for the “local” senior Center and we LOVE Your mother in law, she is always so nice to me!
What a fun birthday. Thank you for the link to Justin Hackworth’s site the other day. He is doing our family photos sometime next year. Eee! I hope you had fun today.
What joy and warmth!
Happy Birthday to Dr. Blair! My children have all enjoyed listening to his warm & “grandfatherly” narration of his wonderful Spanish PowerGlide CD program (which you should totally highlight sometime on designmom!). What a lovely family!
What a fabulous idea! I love that it’s all documented and no one had to be worrying about getting the right shots!
Can’t wait to see you and Ben in the photo shoots!

I love the Blairs. Happy Birthday Brother Blair!
The AMAZING Blairs. What great, talented and generous contributors! We love you all.
Beautiful gathering :)
You know I have gone to Justin’s past two…what do you call it…”showings” down in Provo. But both times I was too nervous to introduce myself. Maybe at the 3rd one! :)
LOVE this! Nothing like family singing together around the piano! Happy bday to him!
