Hello Friends! We are having such a good time with our cousins. Everyone is in the backyard right this minute eating giant banana splits. I had to sneak away to quickly say hello. I hope my ice cream is still waiting for me when I’m done. : )
While we enjoy our houseguests, here are a few things I’ve been wanting to share with you:
- Clever Amanda made a Spooky TV.
- What a sweet pillow.
- I think I would love a moss carpet.
- Thanks and Sorry lights for your car.
- Should I laugh? Should I cry? There are no words for these costumes.
- The cutest mummy shirt. (DIY!)
- Your kids can send an image to be hung on a Turkey/USA Friendship Tree.
- For her 10-year anniversary, Stephanie trashed her wedding dress.
- Don’t miss the generous Fracture Giveaway — your photos will be printed, framed and ready-to-hang.
I write a daily post for Babble.com. Here are this week’s posts:
- My thoughts on Gap’s odd new logo.
- Free labels for your Halloween party drinks.
- DIY Halloween treats from Amy Atlas.
- Spooky music from Count Crow.
- A Halloween outfit for your paperdoll.
Have a wonderful weekend! I’ll see you back here on Monday. I miss you already.
kisses,
Gabrielle

The new gap logo is awful… I loved your post on it.
I love the “Thanks” and “Sorry” lights! What a wonderful idea! Maybe I can get my husband to build me some. ;) I also really love that moss carpet idea. At first, it seemed weird, but then it made perfect sense!
Some friends trashed it the day after their wedding:

I love the sorry lights! I need one of those!
Those costumes are just WRONG! UGGG!! Love, love, love the moss!!
That pillow is so cute! I love all the cool LDS art and home accessories available nowadays.
Cute pillow!
First, a big thank you for featuring my Jack O’Lantern TV, I am honored! :)
Second, I LOVE that moss carpet and the sorry and thanks lights, awesome. I’m going to feature the moss carpet on Craft Gossip (I’m the home and garden editor) and will credit you as the source or finding it. Thanks!
gabby… you are seriously the sweetest! i totally did not expect you to put these pics up on your list, just wanted you to see them. thanks lady! you’re the best!
Me too.. I didn’t understand what Gap was doing. I thought maybe it was a joke but we’re no where near April 1st.
I can’t thank you enough for the pillow link! You made my day and then some…have fun with your company this weekend.
You rock the casbah!
OK. Speaking of moss carpet…did you see the Moss criminal? Hilarious story about a guy that made a moss costume to disguise himself and lay in wait before he broke in. You’ll have to google it. Funny!
thanks for the mention on my virtual halloween party!
have a great weekend!
New to your blog and love it. Where can I find that adorable pillow?
You can find those pillows and more at http://www.etsy.com/shop/ammeandneb
I have to say that I think it’s so unfortunate that Gap switched it’s logo back to it’s old one. Although, I don’t love their new logo, I do feel like it reflects their current branding and marketing in their stores, and their ads and commercials, more than the old one. I think it’s so unfortunate when a company doesn’t have the balls to stick with what they’ve done ESPECIALLY when we know that designing by community is one of the worst methods. It’s too bad everyone ripped into their new logo. Really, can everyone know the objectives and goals of this logo?? And doesn’t it represent where Gap is obviously headed compared to their old one? I do have to say, that their old logo was obviously successful if it has so many people putting up arms, but really, isn’t it time for change? The old logo no longer reflects their clothing. Same thing with Minute Maid, just have the balls to stick with the decision and people will get over it. This is one problem with twitter, blogs, etc. Logos will forever be stuck in their 90′s designs because the design community who doesn’t know anything about the objectives of a company, takes one look, hates it, tweets it, and then it’s trendy to not like something. Too bad. Gap won’t be able to redesign for another decade. And when they do, the world will think they know something about the design and Gap will have to stand behind their design or else they’ll be stuck with their old one forever, now even more since they reverted.
Interesting argument Katie. I also haven’t been too happy with Gap’s adult collections lately, so maybe that explains why I didn’t like the new logo (still think the kids/baby stuff is cute).
That said, as a graphic designer, I like to see companies freshen up their logos rather than completely redesign. (Unless of course the original logo just completely stinks!) A good example that comes to mind is UPS. They did an update 5 or so years ago (see the logos here: http://www.logoblog.org/ups-logo.php). The redesigned logo had a fresh look but still encompassed a lot of components of their previous logo . In fact, I’d bet quite a few people may not even be able to pinpoint the changes. This more subtle approach to logo redesign works well because the brand’s identity remains coherent and people who develop an almost sentimental attachment to logos aren’t totally put off by a big, unsettling change.
To scrap a good design and create something new solely for the purpose of creating something new is just plain silly in my book.
Sorry for a second post, but I just re-read my post and realized I might have been unclear. When I said I’d bet quite a few people may not be able to pinpoint the changes to the UPS logo, I meant without doing a side-by-side comparison. Obviously if you compare them side by side you will see the changes. What I meant was if they saw a UPS truck with the new logo and were asked to tell you how the old logo looked different, most people wouldn’t be able to really say.
LOVE the labels for juice boxes and bottled water!
These will be perfect for my playgroup Halloween party,
and the fifth grade Halloween party I’m helping with.
Thanks for the link !!
Alright that trashing the wedding dress has to be one of the most clever ideas ever.
The moss carpet was very interesting. I don’t know how I would feel about it under my feet in the morning..Those costumes were disturbing!! People really do that!?
I have to say I was a little taken aback by Gap’s change in logo but it didn’t stop me from shopping their the day after they did. I, personally, like their classic navy logo. They took some major heat for that attempt at change. I read that some said it made Old Navy’s logo seem like a luxury brand (I love Old Navy btw). Alot of people were saying it looked like a poorly made clip art design. It must’ve been to much to bear for them as they have switched back but I think they were harshly criticized.
I just pulled up your blog with my nine year old standing in the room and she said, “Oh my goodness, Mama! I love that pillow! That would look so good in my window seat!”
How cute is that?!?!
Happy Sunday,
Linsey
Oh. Those halloween costumes make me so sad. Especially the ones pointed towards painful moments in our history/everyday – KKK, Hitler, suicide bomber. Yuck. And the naked family? That is just horrible.
On another note- i never saw the new GAP logo. I feel like I’m missing some major moment in pop culture.
I love the TV – awesome job Amanda!
I love the TTD sessions…such wonderful ways to get to wear the dress again and not have to worry about getting it dirty. A couple of mom friends of mine did this last month, and I love the pictures!

Gabrielle,
Thanks for the mention of Count Crow’s music and cause (I’m doing the blogger outreach on the project). I’ll have to try Halloween paper dolls.
Also I must take a picture of the house up the street from me. They went all out for Halloween with giant spider webs in their lawn and a red light, tomb stones, etc. I love it. I’m hoping next year to recruit some neighbors to do a haunted trail – we have the perfect spot in our neighborhood.
Can’t wait for Oct. 31st! I’m dressing up like myself – a hippie – ha ha ha.
