Seeing the Everyday

September 3, 2010

Do you subscribe to Seeing the Everyday? It’s one of my favorites. It’s all about “learning to see relationships”. There are several fun and exciting parenting magazines out there, but this one is different. It’s more like a coffee table book that arrives four times a year. The photography is misty and nostalgic and the articles are meaningful. I think it does an excellent job of helping me appreciate the small moments and little tasks that make up parenting and family life. I like to give a subscription to Seeing the Everyday when someone has a baby. Someday, I think it would be neat to write for them.

What about you? Does reading Seeing the Everyday make you emotional? (Me too!) Do you subscribe to any other magazines that inspire you to be a better parent?

My boss is the photographer for this magazine. He and his friend (who designs it) put it out. He was very excited to see your blog today.

It is a really fantastic magazine. I have a subscription coming to me, too.

I believe in their philosophy SO MUCH. Life is not a posed picture.

A great gift idea. I want a subscription on their no-ads approach alone. Keep these people in business!

This is beautiful! I wonder if large bookstores like B&N or Borders will pick it up too. I’ll check it out online.

I know the designer on this magazine and he is so kind. It is great to see support out there for his (and his partners’) vision.

This is funny–I started a Flickr group a while back called “Things I Hope to Never Forget” for this exact reason: to catalog little moments in the day that might otherwise be lost under the weight of “bigger” memories. I also do a feature on my blog called “Favorite Moment” where I reflect on my favorite moment of the week. Not suprisingly, all my favorite moments have been very simple.

The magazine is beautiful and inspirational. I am so grateful for a place that celebrates the mundane and honors the small and large sacrifices that good people make everyday that make the world a better place.

Thank you for your comments. My friend is one of the graphic designers for the magazine – and how you described the magazine is exactly the feeling they wanted to portray – thank you for your site as well – it is inspiring and is helping me see joy in the simple things -

"Seeing the everyday" seems to try to hide its Mormon roots. I wonder why that is…

Hello Flocculus. Interesting comment. I'd love some clarification.

Seeing the Everyday has Mormon roots? Says who?

I'm a Mormon and I know this isn't a project started by or promoted by my church. But suppose it does have Mormon roots — say the founders are Mormons — I still don't understand what you mean.

What would satisfy you?

I am not a parent yet, but Cosmo certainly inspires me to parent my son to be a man with integrity, morality, and good judgment in women.

I am not ready for parenting magazines. Unless, is there a Lucky Magazine equivalent of one?

Besides, I don’t need a parenting mag when I have Design Mom! Everything I need to know and more!

Wow! I had never heard of this magazine. But I am totally going to subscribe now.

I read Working Mother and it helps with the guilt that always exists.

Wow, this looks great! I’m not a parent yet, but I tutor my little cousins a few times a week, and their mom is struggling with the best approach on some parenting stuff. Maybe I’ll give this to her – she could use some inspiration!

As always I respect anything you recommend, so while my boy played on the train table at Barnes and Noble I got a copy from the magazine section. It is so like a coffee table book with the gorgeous pics and I devoured the stories. Cannot wait to read the “Dad” ones to my hubby. I will be subscribing now. Thanks for another great recommendation!

I love KIWI magazine. Great ideas to remind us how to raise our children in the most healthy ways possible.

I had already clicked away from Design Mom (in that endless tabbing that Firefox lends itself to) when I read through the Seeing the Everyday site & blog. I just had to come back and say thank you for the beautiful treat. I’ll be scooping it into my home as swiftly as possible. {I know your voice would fit in very well there! Go for it!}

I love this magazine!! After the kids are nestled in bed and the house is quiet, I can sit and totally enjoy the inspiration and simpleness. I seem to find meaning out of every article, relating it to my life in some way. Plus, I love that it is ad-free… purely reading material!

And, it is also my new favorite gift to give! I just gave a subscription last week to a friend for her birthday!!

I was published in this magazine earlier in the year, for the May/June (I think!) issue. They are a real class act in the publishing world; their demeanor is warm, friendly, and respectful of their writers. It’s one of those publications that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy to be a writer, a mother, etc. etc.
