Garnet Hill Fall 2010

September 10, 2010

Are you thinking about fall clothes? I love these styles from Garnet Hill. They look good to me. And they look like I could really wear them while working with my kids or meeting someone for lunch or stopping at the grocery store.

I think my tastes may be changing. I flipped through an Anthropologie catalog and a Garnet Hill catalog on the same afternoon and loved the Garnet Hill clothes more. (Anthropologie still stole my heart for housewares and bedding.) Do you ever sense your style or taste changing?

P.S. — I really want a pair of over-the-knee boots!

I have loved Garnet Hill for years… they are more realistic for me and my style than Anthro is. I have never browsed through a catalog and not found multiple items that I loved. And those boots are to die for!

My tastes are definitely changing. I find the more comfortable and confident I become in my own skin, I’m less afraid to try new fashions and things that might not be the “coolest” based on where I live. I’m also finding myself much more comfortable in color.

I think my tastes change as my body and hair do. When I have shorter hair I tend to dress more girly…and when I have long hair I don’t. I think I am weirder than most people. BUT when I am pregnant….I dress up all of the time.

I must have a split personality when it comes to my personal style. Some days I’m super preppy while others I go totally mod, etc. I wish I could pick one consistent style because it would simplify my wardrobe! I suppose I can chalk that up to a life-list.

I want *those* boots (the one on the model standing in the boat).

Yes. To my husband’s chagrin, my fashion sense changes far more often than say, my tastebuds.

Those are great boots!

I find my style fluctuating between Anthropologie, Garnet Hill, Gap and Burberry…usually based on the weather, my plans, and whether I had too much ice cream the night before.

I have noticed my style changing, too. I will have to check out Garnet Hill. It looks right up the alley my style is going…

Love the boots AND the jacket in the top pic. Looks like the length you get with Anthro but with more freedom, longer-term wearability built-in. Love Anthros catalog but infrequently buy there b/c seems a waste to be able to wear an item only once.

Thanks for the intro to Garnet, will cruise over (never heard of them until now).

I thought the SAME thing a few days ago, but I felt sure that if I uttered that “anthropologie wasn’t doing it for me” that I would be labeled a heretic and banned from blogger.

Still love their housewares. Have you checked out Lands End Canvas? I’m kinda digging it and Garnet Hill. Suddenly I feel old, but whaddya do?

My best girlfriend and I were perusing this catalog and decided that instead of dog-earing pages or circling with black Sharpie the things we wanted, we were just going to circle what we didn’t want because it would take less time. Have kept the catalog around for wardrobe inspiration-what do I already own that could satisfy any of these style cravings? I AM with you, though, on the over-the-knee boots, as well as all the Velvet brand tees that I happen to know are sublimely soft. And the bright retro Tretorns….yum!

I do love the boots. Which kind of surprises me, as I used to make fun of a pair of my mom’s from decades ago.

I am becoming more brave with color.

Yes!! It’s getting more refined, but simple and easy at the same time. Throw on, easy pieces that I love, with a great fit. Easy :) xx

I was thinking the same thing when my Anthro and Garnet Hill catalogs came in the mail. I think Garnet Hill has changed a bit though too. They used to feel more like J. Jill (which I don’t really care for).
Have you checked out Ann Taylor Loft lately? I really think they have had a good update. I scored the coolest necklace there.
I bought over the knee black boots last year, but they have a heel. Now I need flat ones. This is not going over so well with the Mister.
Best,
Tina

Hi Gabrielle – I’ve followed you for a long time, but I think this may be my first comment. Love your blog!

Anyway, this post rings so true for me as well. My tastes have always changed through the years, and as someone else said, I think the older I get, the more comfortable I feel with “trying new styles”. I admit, I’ve gone from preppy to hippy (and everything in between) over the years, but now I am stuck somewhere in the middle; a little vintage, bohemian, crisp & natural I guess…

And yes, the boots are TDF. Just saw that LOFT has some similar ones, for half the price!

I am 27 and feel like I need to start dressing a little more sophisticated and grown up. I love this style!!

haha, I dog-eared that very same military jacket the other day when mine came in the mail. GH has never really had me either, but you’re right, they’ve had some good stuff lately. Also, strangely, Lands’ End looked good this fall too — they definitely hired a new photo stylist, b/c it looks TOTALLY different.

Wow, I forgot that GH had a clothing line…I have some yummy charcoal grey flannel sheets from them that I LOVE! Great stuff!

I know what you mean, I got that catalog too and loved it! It was sort of a more grown-up version of J.Crew with some artsy Anthropologie-ey, Peruvian Connection-ey feelings.

i totally agree! for the past year or so, i have chosen less and less at anthropologie… i think you and i are the same age – are we aging or changing tastes??? it makes me a little nervous! but, i’m going with it…! jcrew still has my heart.

I’m changing that way too… though I’ve been wondering whether it’s Anthro that’s just not getting it together this year. I keep looking at the outfits they advertise on their website and wondering what they were thinking. It’s like they’re trying too hard to be creative and just ending up being sloppy. Reminds me of comedians who get really popular and feel they always have to be funny… and with all the pressure they just sound trite. Or maybe I’m just getting older. But this – GH – I really like. Never considered GH before.

I ripped out several pages from the latest GH catalog…in hopes that I can put together similar outfits on a smaller budget (and after baby 5 is born next month).

Although I never write LOL, I’m literally laughing out loud because I’m short (5’1″) and those boots? Sigh. They might just reach my crotch, which I’ve decided is clearly not a good look for me.

I felt this same shift in style recently. It must be the weather.

These styles would look GREAT on you. I especially like the dark green, military-inspired jacket.
