Kinect for Xbox 360

August 30, 2010

Last Thursday, my kids were invited to try out Kinect for Xbox 360. It’s a game console where your body is the controller. And it is so cool. I know Apple says the iPad is magical. But Kinect is ACTUALLY MAGICAL — you can move things around on the screen by waving your hands. Not kidding! Watching people use it was like watching Minority Report. I kept thinking: The Future is Now.

I’ve got lots of photos of the Kinect SneakPeek after the jump. And here’s a video of Ralph and Maude playing a track & field game from Kinect Sports. It’s super easy to see the screen reflect what’s happening in my kids’ movements:

I was impressed with how much my kids moved around while playing with Kinect. After an hour of trying different games, everyone was completely worn out. Kinect is an add-on to Xbox 360. So if you’re already an Xbox user (my family is not), you just need to add the Kinect. It will be available in early November. And you can bet, it will be the Tickle-Me Elmo of Holiday 2010.

Dibs on one for my family! : )

The boyfriend’s even buying an xbox360 in anticipation!!

Thanks for sharing! Those photos look absolutely magnificent. I’m definitely getting Kinect as well, especially after seeing some of the coverage on this website: http://123kinect.com/

Now all I have to do is convince my kids, just kidding ;)

Excellent preview! Thanks for the link, the page answers some of the questions I’ve been having with Kinect.

Does anyone know if the Xbox has something to limit game time, or games that are not suited for my young ones?

Hi Christel – a bit of a delayed response from me, and you’ve probably already found it but yes, the Xbox 360 allows you to limit the time played, and also prevent unsuitable games from being played without Mommy’s password! :)

Oh my… that’s just amazing. We’re a wii family. But my husband doesn’t need ANY convincing when I suggest getting an Xbox. :)

How cool is that! It’s like Avatar! I hope Sony comes out with something similar for Playstation; one gaming system is enough for our household.

Now that’s fun. I can’t imagine any household that wouldn’t enjoy having something like that on hand.

This is cool. We too are a wii family but this new Kinect is awesome! No controllers flying out of the wee ones hands in the heat of competition. I think we’ve found the “family” Christmas gift.

That looks awesome! We’re not video game people (um, yet?)…so I’ll just add that I love the tattoos! That skeleton one is awesome!

Looks like fun exercise! It’s not often that I see that. My son wants one for Christmas – I hope Santa brings one – our whole family would enjoy this.

The Xbox 360 had the top-selling game of the month (Red Dead Redemption) and 4 other titles in the top 20
