I positively love this; we are 3 weeks into the school year and while my kids like PB&J, I think it’s getting a little boring for them even though I try to make sure their “side dishes” are varied. These images alone give me some great ideas!

As a teacher I absolutely love these ideas! I just may begin packing my own lunch bento-style!

These are fabulous ideas! Thankfully, I have the Sassy food box(es) so I’m gonna pull ‘em out and use them. Thanx so much. I was at loss what to pack in my daughter’s first lunch box (yeah she starts pre-k in a 2 weeks), how to organize it and make it attractive. :)

Would it be okay if I use your pics on my blog (of course I’ll link back to you). I think a lot of moms will benefit from your creativity and ‘design’. :)

Isn’t that great? Melissa of Another Lunch includes bento box sources on her blog.

That stainless steel one is from http://www.planetbox.com. It costs a small fortune but I totally bought one for my kid! It’s too cool.

I just bought the Goodbyn lunch containers for my boys for this school year. They are bento-style and impossible adorable. We have done a 30-day lunch plan (I let the boys decide most of what went onto it) and feel ready for school-lunches (which I really don’t like making!).

Oh wow. Love this!

Lunches have become incredibly challenging with my toddler. I’m learning that variety is good. :)

Oh thanks for the post. After 15 years of making school lunches I still struggle daily. It is the thing I most hate about school vacation ending. I’m off to Another Lunch for inspiration!

Here’s an idea: have your kids pack their own yummy lunch (the day before). My girls started this last year (1st and 3rd then) and do a great job. They are involved in the grocery shopping so that they can be more a part of what their options are. At first I made a poster with the things they needed to put in their lunch: a protein, a crunch (chips, etc.) a veggie or a fruit, and water. And my best advice: real food (no artificials).

i do the same. i make the sandwiches ahead of time and freeze them and they need to choose a fruit, a healthy snack and if they want, a treat.

My kids are still too young for school lunches, but these would be perfect for a picnic!! I will have to get a few bento boxes. And one for me too. I love trays with segments for food. Thanks for posting!

Pretty images. We already pack lunches similar to these, but if you recreate these, realize there are too many carbs and not enough protein!!!! :>)

Thanks for the great bento box lunch ideas! These are so popular in Japan and I couldn’t imagine why we don’t use them more here. In addition to being cute, they save on waste, making them a fabulous “green” practice for your family! I’m loving your blog and so happy to see these featured!

I bought a Goodbyn last year for my 7 now 8 year old and she had to stop using it. She couldn’t open it by herself and the teachers got tired of helping her. I love the idea though and can’t wait till she’s a little older to try it again. My kids are already sick of pb&j but don’t want anything else either, so they made spring rolls with me and loved them today. Easy recipe is on allrecipes.com.

I love the visuals of the bento style lunch and the way it can get kids excited about eating fun healthy choices. But I have to say as a mother of two with a full time job and a side business (letterpress) on the side, I find it a bit overwhelming to create these lunch time masterpieces. Any tips on how to make packed lunches fun in a very short amount of time? I don’t need one more thing to feel guilty about (my kid has a less than perfect packed lunch than the child next to her) ;).
Thanks,
Chelsey

I like to serve up antipasto-style lunches for my littles. Small portions of several easy to eat, colorful options. These here are presented with total cuteness. Which is enticing.
