Thanks everyone for your lovely comments! The spools were discovered at the Brimfield Antique show this past spring and they were once used in textile mills throughout New England. I imagine the gear was used for automated winding… wouldn’t that be fun to see?

I’m not gifted in decorating, so I’d probably use the garlands all wrong. BUT – what interesting spools… I wonder if there is a function behind the shape? One end looks like a gear, but the other is smooth. Hmm.
