A Few Things

July 16, 2010

Hello Friends! Two things had me flash-backing to my teenage years today. First, the photo above. Did you soak up the sun as a teenager? I would lay out on our trampoline for hours with the sprinklers on below me. It felt cool and hot at the same time. Second, while Maude was at her ortho appointment this morning, I picked up a copy of Teen Vogue. They were offering a poster of Joe Jonas to subscribers. I remembered the poster of The Outsiders on my big sister’s bedroom wall. I thought C. Thomas Howell was beautiful.

While I think teen-agery thoughts, here are a few things I’ve been wanting to share with you:

-In a continuation of my growth chart obsession, I featured this amazing DIY tape measure on CaféMom. Thanks, Cathe!

-Holy cow! A 300 square foot apartment transforms into 24 rooms.

-Huge sale at Cambria Cove (70% off!). Now’s your chance to grab a set of my favorite serving trays — or this $7 tea towel.

-Susan’s before and after sofa pics will blow your mind + a time lapse video.

-I like this funny poster.

-Doesn’t this book look cool?

-Another darling pillowcase dress tutorial.

-Tiny party.

-Playing with food.

-Are you an entrepreneur? Cute shop Magpie Lovely is for sale.

I write a daily post for Babble’s Family Style blog. Here are my posts from this week:

-A diaper bag with a built-in drawer.

-Cheeky family tree poster.

-Old school Atari for your walls.

-Embroidered growth chart.

-Tea Collection (one of my favorite lines of children’s clothing) is growing!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend. I miss you already.

kisses,
Gabrielle

P.S. — My harddrive died last night. Boo! The Genius Bar has ordered a new one and will call me when it’s in. So today (and for the next week or so),  I am working on Ben Blair’s old, slow laptop. The one we gave to the kids. (Still. How lucky am I that I have a back up computer?). Ultimately it’s all for the best. My computer has 32 days left on its warranty so the hard drive is covered. And this will be a good opportunity to upgrade my OS. (I’m trying to have a good attitude.)

So funny! Just today I was reminiscing about how on hot days like today I’d go out in our backyard and layout and listen to the radio. Then I’d go in and take a nap (waaaaaaay b/4 marriage and kids:). I used to get Teen Beat when I was younger and I wrote a letter to Ricky “The Ricker” Schroder once. Never heard back.

Loved, loved, loved The Outsiders. Rob Lowe was also a memorable cast member back then! My daughters (13 & 15) both read the book recently and were so shocked (gasp!) with all of the smoking & the fights.

Wasn’t Patrick Swazye in The Outsiders?

That video of the Hong Kong apartment is too, too cool!

I’ve just finished my teenage years, and I never needed to soak up the sun (I’m quite tan) but I do have posters from Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince on my wall. Woo!

That apartment video = ah-maazing!

And yay, Cathe Holden! I visit her blog faithfully!

I love that you have such a bright outlook on things!

My harddrive died in March (and my warranty had expired) and the genius bar replaced it, gave me an additional 60 gig, and upgraded my operating system from tiger to snow leopard. For free. I heart Apple!

So funny… I had a huge poster of Scott Baio on my bedroom wall and baked in the sun with a mixture baby oil and iodine…. can’t imagine doing that now!!

Also… love the tiny party. I had a tiny party for one of my little girls when she turned two… the theme was “she’s tiny & she’s two”… i sent out tiny 2 x 2 inch invites. The party included.. small tea party dishes and bite-sized food, milkshakes served in shot glasses, small 6-inch layer cake on a glass pedestal and bite-sized cookies. Decorations and favors were miniature-sized too!! It was so much fun and perfect for my little one who was so tiny!

Ah, The Outsiders. Thought they were cool beyond cool! And lying in the backyard reading a book with real summer weather… makes me smile.

P.S. Thanks for the link to the Jeff Hamada poster on my blog. No wonder I am getting more traffic… appreciate it!

As C. Thomas Howell was to you, Matt Dillon was (is) to me!!

One of my very favorite movies.
