Minted Giveaway

June 3, 2010

Remember when I was the guest judge for the Minted Birth Announcement Challenge? Well, I was asked to judge the Make A Wish Birthday Party Challenge as well. And it’s a tough one. There were almost 400 submissions and so many amazing designs. What a challenge it’s been to narrow down my favorites to the top 6. But I did it. It’s done.

If you don’t mind, I could sure use your feedback in this final stage. It would be great if you would help me pick the winner. Leave a comment and let me know what you think of the top six birthday invitation designs (see below). Which one do you think is the most creative or has the best concept? Do you have a favorite?

Can’t wait to see what you think!

kisses,
Gabrielle

P.S. — Extra fun. This is also a super-cool giveaway. Leave a comment below and you’re entered to win a $150 gift certificate to Minted. You could use it to order birthday invites, or baby announcements, or holiday cards, or we’re moving announcements. The winner will be announced on Monday.

——-

UPDATE: Thanks for your feedback, everyone. I’m declaring Design Number Three as the official invite winner. Also Congratulations to Briana! You are the lucky giveaway winner.

#3 is my favorite, but I’m slightly bias since I have two boys!

2 BRIGID June 3, 2010 at 2:25 pm

Wow you’re right – tough call! They are all darling…but I have to go with #6.

PS – GREAT photos of June!

3 Loni June 3, 2010 at 2:27 pm

number 1 is my favorite. love the overall look of it the best, although they are all cute!

4 aimee @ smilingmama June 3, 2010 at 2:28 pm

Lovely! I’ve narrowed it down to 1 and 3 but can’t choose beyond that!

P.S. I do hope I win…my baby Nathaniel is nearly 5 mos and I still haven’t done a baby announcement. It isn’t too late, is it? (Please say no!)

5 Jenny June 3, 2010 at 2:30 pm

No. 3 is really cute! Thanks for the giveaway!

6 holly June 3, 2010 at 2:30 pm

I really like #2, #3, and #5, but I think #2 is the best design.

7 Anne June 3, 2010 at 2:31 pm

They are all great, but I vote for #2. It just captures the spirit of a pool party so well. I think invitations should always let you know what to expect from a party, and this one is spot-on.

8 Prof. Kitty June 3, 2010 at 2:32 pm

I like #6! It’s one of the few that says what it’s for (a birthday party)–I’m a writer, so I like that kind of detail… adds to the storyline of the piece. And I love the little butterfly that helps tie the photo in to the text part of the card! nice!

9 Miriah Elliott June 3, 2010 at 2:33 pm

Oooh, I like number 1. I think the photo is number 6 is the cutest, but the design in number 1 is adorable!

10 Rebecca June 3, 2010 at 2:33 pm

I like #2. The design is clear and functional and the info is easily read and understood. Cute!

11 kyla June 3, 2010 at 2:34 pm

I think # 3 is the most creative. well done on all!

12 Katie June 3, 2010 at 2:35 pm

Gosh…they’re all great. I’m partial to 1 and 5, though, which seem to give the kids more center stage.

13 maresi June 3, 2010 at 2:35 pm

Oh, I just LOVE number one. It’s adorable! Cute stuff all around.

14 Lauren June 3, 2010 at 2:35 pm

I like #5 because it would look good on my fridge long after the party :)

15 Ashley June 3, 2010 at 2:37 pm

#3! Very clever and I think the color choice is sophisticated but still playful

16 Emily June 3, 2010 at 2:37 pm

I like Claudia’s pool party the best because it really incorporates the picture into the design, making it personalized, but still with great design.

17 suni June 3, 2010 at 2:39 pm

love #1 and #5 – must be the elephants! and with a baby on the way this giveaway is perfect!

18 odessa June 3, 2010 at 2:40 pm

I love number 3, mostly because my son would go crazy for it.

19 Lynette June 3, 2010 at 2:42 pm

No. 1 is my favorite! The colors and design are perfect!

20 Megan W June 3, 2010 at 2:42 pm

Love Minted! #2 is my fave.

21 Lauren June 3, 2010 at 2:42 pm

I like # 1 the best, for overall look. I think #4 is great for an older child’s party…love it.

If I win this, maybe I will finally get around to sending out birth announcements for our first child. The others can wait. : )

22 Rebecca Weiss June 3, 2010 at 2:43 pm

I’d go for #1. Thinking of all the adults-with-reading-glasses kinds, this one is super clear and the colors are just superb!

23 melanie June 3, 2010 at 2:43 pm

Definitely number three. It’s modern and retro at the same time. The design caters to the adult-inner child but is also interesting for children not too grownup. This card is not so much a pieced together graphic but an all-in-one composition that goes places. Great use of positive and negative space, and colour.

NUMBER 3 is the ONE FOR ME.

24 jan June 3, 2010 at 2:43 pm

The first one is my favorite. #5 is also cute, but I have a hard time with 1-year-old parties.

25 nikki June 3, 2010 at 2:43 pm

ooh…toss up between number 2 and number 5!
2 because I just like the concept but 5 because I love the colour and the knock-out elephants

26 Tara June 3, 2010 at 2:44 pm

Number 5 is definitely my favorite! I’m a sucker for elephants and the color green.

27 Tiffany June 3, 2010 at 2:45 pm

I love numbers 3 and 5!

28 Stephanie Partridge June 3, 2010 at 2:45 pm

1, 2, and 5 come close to a tie for me in all around greatness. But, I’ll have to say that 1 has the upper hand in my heart. I’m a big fan of simplicity, and making the child the ‘main event’ on the announcement, which I think these three cards did an excellent job of.

29 Nicole O June 3, 2010 at 2:47 pm

I think #2 is really cute.

30 min.d June 3, 2010 at 2:47 pm

They are all very fun! #3 and #5 are my faves though.

31 Jill A June 3, 2010 at 2:47 pm

i love #2

32 Hayley June 3, 2010 at 2:48 pm

They’re all adorable, but I love the graphic across the picture in #6 — really ties things together and gives added interest/depth.

33 Ricci June 3, 2010 at 2:49 pm

#5 #5 #5
<3

34 Heather P. June 3, 2010 at 2:50 pm

#5 is my favorite. I love the bright color and the elephants.

35 Audrey June 3, 2010 at 2:51 pm

I like #5. Very simple, but still really cute!

36 Maria Martino June 3, 2010 at 2:51 pm

#5 is GORGEOUS!! Love it.

37 Jennifer June 3, 2010 at 2:52 pm

#5 gets my vote – although I have to say they are all super sweet and original!

And I am in the market for some birth announcements so please throw my name in the hat! :)

38 Martha June 3, 2010 at 2:53 pm

#5 and #6. Classy, cute and friendly to the eye.

39 cally June 3, 2010 at 2:53 pm

I LOVE number five. That’s my favorite.

40 Heather June 3, 2010 at 2:53 pm

I love the first one. Definitely the most catchy.

41 KristiS June 3, 2010 at 2:54 pm

#2 is striking! I love it. Wish I had a pool so I could use this idea!

42 Amber June 3, 2010 at 2:56 pm

I am currently online trying to find an amazing announcement for our new addition–thanks for the recommendation to Minted. I like #1.

43 Dina June 3, 2010 at 2:57 pm

My favorite is #6. I think it’s the photo in that one that makes it so adorable!

44 Celeste June 3, 2010 at 2:57 pm

I like the first best.

45 AliceH June 3, 2010 at 2:57 pm

Wow hard decision! I like number 4 – it seems like it would be appropriate for a lot of ages and different types of parties.

46 Anna June 3, 2010 at 2:57 pm

I’m loving #1 for sure!

47 Aliesha June 3, 2010 at 3:00 pm

I love number 1 the most, and number 5 in second place. So cute, all of them though!

48 mere June 3, 2010 at 3:01 pm

my picks are 3 or 5, what a tough job that must have been. I love minted! used them for my christmas cards. Would love to win another batch!

49 Jessica B June 3, 2010 at 3:05 pm

I have to say number 1 is my favorite…I love how the colours compliment eachother :)

50 Dyana Geddie June 3, 2010 at 3:06 pm

Having 3 boys, I loved #5, but all are darling!

51 Kelsey June 3, 2010 at 3:07 pm

I love #5! The elephants work no matter the gender and I love the rounded edges (reminiscent of baby proofing, anyone?)

52 Jill June 3, 2010 at 3:08 pm

I love number 3! Clever and cute.

53 Esther June 3, 2010 at 3:09 pm

#1 is my favorite. I think the colors in the photo so perfectly match the colors in the graphics. The slight tipping of the letters add a bit of imbalance that gives the invitation a sense of informality (which is what a child’s birthday party should be, right?!). I love the elephant and the bird, too!

54 Katie June 3, 2010 at 3:10 pm

I think I like #2 – pool party the best. It feels a bit more like something new. Everything else I kind of feel like I’ve seen before.

55 Kelly June 3, 2010 at 3:10 pm

I love #3! Great use of space and graphics, and the photo does not overpower the design – tough to find sometimes…

56 Lauren June 3, 2010 at 3:10 pm

I love #1. The pop of color is really eye catching. I really like the concept of #3 but the photo is too small and cuts out too much of the kids face.

57 Lisa June 3, 2010 at 3:11 pm

#4 or #6 would be my top picks. I could really use that gift certificate with the new baby announcements and summer birthdays! I will win…I will win… I will win…

58 Laura C June 3, 2010 at 3:11 pm

I like #2 as well. Cuteness!

59 Kristen June 3, 2010 at 3:12 pm

My favorite is #1. It looks the most customized to me — the picture, the layout, and colors all work together so beautifully. It would be difficult to change the photo or child’s name without changing the entire feel of the invitation. That might be a bad thing if you’re looking for a template that can be reused over and over, but it is perfect as a one-of-a-kind invitation.

60 NatTheFatRat June 3, 2010 at 3:12 pm

Number 3. It is hysterical!

Also, I should really win this. I am moving AND having my first baby in the next six months. Help a sister out!

61 Dana Beth June 3, 2010 at 3:13 pm

#5!!

62 anng June 3, 2010 at 3:13 pm

Number 1 is good but number 2 is different than anything I’ve seen out there. It feels like a pool party!

63 Andrea June 3, 2010 at 3:13 pm

The white pottery silhouettes in #4 Reagan’s party are lovely. Pretty grown-up girl colors too.

64 Ninja Panda June 3, 2010 at 3:14 pm

#1 – Great Layout, Color Palette, Photo…I love everything about it! It’s REALLY well done!

65 Mary Ann June 3, 2010 at 3:16 pm

My favorite is #5. I would totally use that for my son!

66 Juliana June 3, 2010 at 3:19 pm

5 is my favorite.

I was distracted by two things in some of the others: #1 said a third birthday, and the kid looks seven (I know it is just a template and it doesn’t really matter, but it distracted me and I couldn’t see the rest of the design).
#3 uses an Illustrator CS3 template to make some of the shapes. I recognized it, and again, was distracted.

That said, they are all darling!

67 maura June 3, 2010 at 3:21 pm

Love, Love Love number three. Crossing my fingers I will have minted invited for my lil guy’s first b-day.

68 Jmoos June 3, 2010 at 3:22 pm

Love #3…the graphics are so cute and I love that color combo :)

69 Tanya June 3, 2010 at 3:23 pm

#2 the pool party – so cute!

70 Elizabeth June 3, 2010 at 3:24 pm

Fantastic giveaway!!!

71 irene June 3, 2010 at 3:25 pm

72 Eva June 3, 2010 at 3:29 pm

#1 is my favorite! Contests are so much fun.

*Eva

73 Suzanne from pretty*swell June 3, 2010 at 3:29 pm

#1 is my favorite. Clean and crisp, but also playful and fun, as any children’s birthday party invite should be! Also LOVE the colors.

74 Rachel @ birdy blue June 3, 2010 at 3:30 pm

# 3 is the best :)

75 Jenna June 3, 2010 at 3:30 pm

I like #3, cute with the little face peaking through the front window! Cleaver :)

76 Sarah June 3, 2010 at 3:30 pm

#1 for sure. It’s gender neutral, good for a wider age range than some of the others, and could be used for any type of party. They’re all pretty cute though.

77 Danielle from A Few of My Favorite Things June 3, 2010 at 3:31 pm

They’re all adorable but I have to choose #3. Love the colors, the perspective and the fun way the photo is incorporated. #1 is a close second.

78 Julia June 3, 2010 at 3:33 pm

I liek #6 the best.

79 whitney June 3, 2010 at 3:33 pm

I like #1

80 Nala June 3, 2010 at 3:36 pm

i love #3

81 Sarah Gonzales June 3, 2010 at 3:36 pm

I love #5. I like how it really minimilized the invitation print. This can be displayed in a frame for years to come. It is very cute.

82 Coochicoos June 3, 2010 at 3:36 pm

3 and 5 get my vote.

5 for the most unique and eye-catching bold graphics.

83 Maren June 3, 2010 at 3:37 pm

I like #2 — makes me want to take the kids swimming.

84 brandi June 3, 2010 at 3:37 pm

Number one! It is fresh, fun and both simple and complex at the same time… love it!

85 Megan June 3, 2010 at 3:38 pm

#6 is so sweet for a 2 year old girl!

86 Lauren June 3, 2010 at 3:39 pm

I’m sure there’s no need to ask this, but — those home addresses and phone numbers have been falsified, right? Signed, Paranoid. :)

87 Stephanie June 3, 2010 at 3:39 pm

#3 is too cute. It made me lol.

88 Angela June 3, 2010 at 3:40 pm

#3 is the most unique. I love the bold design element of the car and how different it is from the other designs. The only thing is there should be a helmet around the head so he doesn’t look like a floating bobble head on top of the car.

89 Jessica - { j&paper } June 3, 2010 at 3:41 pm

#5 is my favorite, very creative!!

90 Carole June 3, 2010 at 3:42 pm

I like #5 – it’s graphic and simple and I love the color!

91 Maureen Hull June 3, 2010 at 3:44 pm

I vote for number 1. It can be easily edited for different ages, and I love the fact that the child’s name is big, bold, and bright.

92 Anne Marie June 3, 2010 at 3:45 pm

You’re right, these are all great. But if I had to choose one, I’ve gotta go with #3.

93 jessica June 3, 2010 at 3:45 pm

#6

94 Anne L. June 3, 2010 at 3:46 pm

I agree with many of the previous commenters– they are all great, but I think #1 is best overall. It’s straightforward enough that the information is easily accessible, but still fresh, unexpected and playful, and the colors are cheerful and gender- and age-neutral, making it versatile!

95 nicky June 3, 2010 at 3:46 pm

i love #2!

96 ann-marie June 3, 2010 at 3:46 pm

how lovely!

97 pam June 3, 2010 at 3:47 pm

i like the first one. elephants and birds are my faves.

98 Sarah June 3, 2010 at 3:47 pm

I like number 2 and number 3

99 Erin June 3, 2010 at 3:48 pm

I have 2 boys so I am partial to the race car (#3) invite. Too cute! Although, I have a girl on the way so my preference might be changing soon :) All of them are darling!

100 Jessica June 3, 2010 at 3:48 pm

So hard, they are all so cute! But, the colors in #1 are so pretty. I am a sucker for orange and blue together, in fact those are the colors of my son’s nursery!
