Minted Giveaway

June 3, 2010

Remember when I was the guest judge for the Minted Birth Announcement Challenge? Well, I was asked to judge the Make A Wish Birthday Party Challenge as well. And it’s a tough one. There were almost 400 submissions and so many amazing designs. What a challenge it’s been to narrow down my favorites to the top 6. But I did it. It’s done.

If you don’t mind, I could sure use your feedback in this final stage. It would be great if you would help me pick the winner. Leave a comment and let me know what you think of the top six birthday invitation designs (see below). Which one do you think is the most creative or has the best concept? Do you have a favorite?

Can’t wait to see what you think!

kisses,
Gabrielle

P.S. — Extra fun. This is also a super-cool giveaway. Leave a comment below and you’re entered to win a $150 gift certificate to Minted. You could use it to order birthday invites, or baby announcements, or holiday cards, or we’re moving announcements. The winner will be announced on Monday.

——-

UPDATE: Thanks for your feedback, everyone. I’m declaring Design Number Three as the official invite winner. Also Congratulations to Briana! You are the lucky giveaway winner.

I like number 3. Cute!

2 claire June 3, 2010 at 1:27 pm

I like Claudia’s pool party best. The design is so simple yet really pops! Love it!

3 Jo June 3, 2010 at 1:28 pm

#1 is my favorite for overall look. The colors are superb, and I love that it pulls in the photo is well-selected for color scheme. The design is just really well done, with both balance and interest. Top-notch.

#4 is my favorite for concept. It oozes the coolness of this 11-year-old-girl. A pottery party? Can I come?

4 Kendra @ My Insanity June 3, 2010 at 1:28 pm

They are all cute, but I’m going with #3, because I like the use of the photo as part of the graphic, Putting his face in the race car is more clever than a photo of a kid next to some cute artwork.

5 Stephanie F June 3, 2010 at 1:30 pm

#3 for a boy! adorable!

6 janet June 3, 2010 at 1:31 pm

Number 5 is my favorite; I love the color choices, the rounded corners on the photo, and who can resist a baby elephant?

10 st.ar June 3, 2010 at 1:37 pm

I LOVE number 5. Yay elephants! I would love to win and design invites for my baby girl’s first birthday. I’m thinking a star theme for my new year’s eve baby….

12 Marta June 3, 2010 at 1:37 pm

13 Michele June 3, 2010 at 1:40 pm

They are all adorable, too hard to choose!

14 Janssen June 3, 2010 at 1:40 pm

#1 the most, I think. But they are all darling.

15 Ali June 3, 2010 at 1:41 pm

That’s tough. I’d narrow it down to numbers 2 and 6 then let your professional eye make the call…

16 Rachael June 3, 2010 at 1:41 pm

Number 1 is my favorite–I love the colors!

17 Erin C. June 3, 2010 at 1:42 pm

#5 all the way!

18 Mel June 3, 2010 at 1:43 pm

I like number 5. I love elephants, the rounded shape is unique, and the bright, simple color lets the little boy’s face shine. Very cute.

19 Kathleen June 3, 2010 at 1:43 pm

#5 – Graphically interesting, fun typesetting, cute baby elephant and little tuft of grass, photo framed, and an eye catching green.

20 Andi June 3, 2010 at 1:43 pm

I like #1 the best!

21 kim June 3, 2010 at 1:43 pm

#5, but #1 is a close second!

22 Michelle McCullough June 3, 2010 at 1:43 pm

Number 1 is my favorite. It’s bright, colorful and still a great focus on the child being celebrated. Poor Macy, my sweet 5 month old has yet to get her birth announcements in the mail. Maybe if we win this, I can help HER be celebrated and get something cute out the door finally! ;)

23 Shannon June 3, 2010 at 1:43 pm

#3 is the most original and soooo awesome. I would totally use that for my son’s first birthday invite!

24 kelly June 3, 2010 at 1:43 pm

So Cute! I can win it just in time for my grandsons July 4th 1st Birthday.

25 Kaitlin June 3, 2010 at 1:44 pm

I love the colors in #1

Number 3! And I would love to be able to have fun moving announcements for our first house!!

33 courtney June 3, 2010 at 1:46 pm

number 1! It’s unique but easy to read and very aesthetically-pleasing. so cute!

34 Hilary June 3, 2010 at 1:46 pm

#1 and #3 are both great! I would have to vote #3 b/c of the layout and the graphic bleeds. It feels like the car is coming at you!

35 Tully Jackson June 3, 2010 at 1:47 pm

Love Number 1!

36 abbeyviolet June 3, 2010 at 1:47 pm

#6!

37 Katie June 3, 2010 at 1:47 pm

I like the first two the best. I could easily build a party around either one. Nice giveaway too!

38 Wendy June 3, 2010 at 1:48 pm

I like #1, although all are really cute.

39 Kayla June 3, 2010 at 1:48 pm

I looove #3! Probably because I have two boys and awesome boy stuff can be so hard to find.

40 Brianne June 3, 2010 at 1:48 pm

I love them all, but #2 is so creative!!
My daughters first birthday is coming up…would love to win!!

42 emily m June 3, 2010 at 1:48 pm

number 1 is my pick!

43 Iris June 3, 2010 at 1:49 pm

#1 is my favorite. they are all nice, but some of the others seem too cluttered.

44 Betty Beguiles June 3, 2010 at 1:49 pm

It’s a hard to choose between 3 and 5 but ultimately the sweetness of #5 wins it for me.

45 Lisa Boshell June 3, 2010 at 1:49 pm

I like #5 the best. CUTE!

46 Cass M June 3, 2010 at 1:50 pm

wow, #1 is for sure my favorite …. the colors and the simple animal placement is stunning …

47 Anna-Katrin June 3, 2010 at 1:50 pm

Can I vote for #1 and 5? I love them both, so colorful and fun!

48 Emily June 3, 2010 at 1:50 pm

#1 is my favorite.

49 Stella June 3, 2010 at 1:52 pm

I adore all the elephants. Are they the new owl or bird designs of this year?

50 Katie B June 3, 2010 at 1:52 pm

#1 is my favorite! Very cute ideas.

51 Mary June 3, 2010 at 1:53 pm

It’s a tie between #1 and #5. I’m leaning toward number 5. Ok, I’ll just pick one already. #5!

52 Miggy June 3, 2010 at 1:53 pm

those are all cute, but I think I’m partial to either 1 or 2. Good luck deciding.

53 Amy June 3, 2010 at 1:53 pm

Thanks for the giveaway chance! Such cute invites.

54 Kelly June 3, 2010 at 1:54 pm

I vote 5 or 6! So cute

55 Kathryn June 3, 2010 at 1:54 pm

#4 yet I love them all!

56 Fiveunderfive June 3, 2010 at 1:54 pm

#1. I also like the race car one but the photo crop is a little off or something.

57 Limor June 3, 2010 at 1:54 pm

Such cute designs. Thanks for the chance to win.

58 Christina June 3, 2010 at 1:54 pm

Loving #2.

59 bdaiss June 3, 2010 at 1:55 pm

#1 – The design elements are very modern, but with a classic twist. And I love that it’s gender neutral. As a bonus the themes/party flavor can be so open ended. (For those of us that don’t really get into the “theme” thing.)

I liked the concept of #3, but the photo feels like it’s just lobbed on there, not really a part of the graphic…

I wish #2 had existed back when I was having birthday parties at my Uncle’s pool. : )

60 Liz Cogswell June 3, 2010 at 1:56 pm

I love #5!!

61 Lindsay June 3, 2010 at 1:56 pm

I like #4 the best! I love the black and white photo and the images used in the invite! :)

I want to go to that party!!!!

62 Ashley June 3, 2010 at 1:57 pm

I love #2….very original!

63 Tricia June 3, 2010 at 1:57 pm

All so creative! But #4 really grabs me.

64 Jodie June 3, 2010 at 1:57 pm

I love #6!

65 Bethany June 3, 2010 at 1:57 pm

I love number 5, adorable!

66 Nancy Cornwell June 3, 2010 at 1:57 pm

I love the pool party invite! So adorable!

67 Amy June 3, 2010 at 1:58 pm

Very cute!

68 Jacqueline June 3, 2010 at 1:59 pm

I love the font on #2! You could build a theme around that alone!

69 ~j. June 3, 2010 at 2:00 pm

#4 is my favorite.

70 Angela June 3, 2010 at 2:01 pm

#3 is my pick.

71 Tammy June 3, 2010 at 2:01 pm

I would love 3 if the picture looked more a part of the design, I think I have to pick number 5.

72 Natalie A! June 3, 2010 at 2:02 pm

#1 for the fabulous design/colors and #4 for tying the theme into the invitation! I think they are both so darling!

73 Becka June 3, 2010 at 2:03 pm

I like the layout of the text in #1. (And the photo sure is perfect with it.) I also like that the child is featured so much. This is certainly a card parents would choose.

But I think that #3 would be more fun for the child. It would be better if there was a cutout of the kid’s head and shoulders but I am guessing that’s to difficult to do with Minted’s system.

74 Catherine June 3, 2010 at 2:05 pm

Oh I LOVE #2! Makes me want to hop in a pool right now!

75 Shana June 3, 2010 at 2:05 pm

I like number 5, because it is unexpected to have the writing go vertical up the side.

76 Stacey Halphen June 3, 2010 at 2:06 pm

Looooove #1!!!

77 Jenny June 3, 2010 at 2:07 pm

I’m not reading the other comments before I write mine, in case they would change my opinion. As a general note – are those really their phone numbers? if i were the submitter, i would prefer those be blacked out.

#1 is my favorite. the graphics are lovely and the picture is sweet, but what makes it my favorite is how the colors from each complement the other. the graphics draw the orange from his shirt, the green from the out of focus grass behind him and his beautiful blue eyes. even the backdrop of the graphic matches his skin tone. i also like that his name is not quite level.

#5 is the most visually appealing to me (really like those elephant silhouettes and the rounded corners of both the card and the picture) somehow the integration of the picture just doesn’t do it for me and that’s why 1 came first.

#2 is visually appealing and i love the little pink flourish around her picture frame that picks up the flounce at the end of her hair

#6 i adore the butterfly flying across the picture! what a way to draw together the 2 halves of the invitation. i want to make a card like that!

78 Patti June 3, 2010 at 2:10 pm

Love # 2….so, so cute and makes me want to come swim!

79 Amy W June 3, 2010 at 2:10 pm

I like #5. Simple but cute and bold. Hard to choose!

80 sukeina June 3, 2010 at 2:11 pm

I like #4 the most and believe the concept and invite can be used for a wide range of ages.

81 bec June 3, 2010 at 2:11 pm

wow. they are all cute! I liked 5, because it could be used for boy or girl. though 6 is very cute for a girl, and 2 is very cute for a boy.

82 bec June 3, 2010 at 2:12 pm

oops, i meant 3 is cute for a boy.

83 Tina Z June 3, 2010 at 2:13 pm

I love #2 but I think it’s because I love pool parties! Growing up, my family had a pool and those were my favorite parties (and my birthday is in Dec so they weren’t even birthday parties). Thanks for the giveaway, I’m moving next month and these would be perfect to order.

84 Laura June 3, 2010 at 2:13 pm

This is hard! But I like #3 the best–the vintage-y concept is charming.

85 Jessica June 3, 2010 at 2:14 pm

ooooo Fun!!! I love these. It is hard to pick a favorite.

I think #2 does the best job of saying “party!” right away and I love how all the elements come together. #1 is my second choice – I adore the colors.

PS I love your reply by email system. I feel so happy when you pop up in my inbox. :)

86 Nikki June 3, 2010 at 2:15 pm

Number 5 is my favourite- I really like the race car but the proportion of the head is wonky which kind of ruins it for me.

They’re all pretty fantastic though!

87 MrsBagley June 3, 2010 at 2:15 pm

#5 is my favorite, with #3 a close second.

88 Jessie Hansen June 3, 2010 at 2:16 pm

I’m digging #4 as far as content. I would love a pottery party!

89 LeeAnne June 3, 2010 at 2:16 pm

Number 1 is adorable. It wouldn’t work as well without such a perfectly colored photo that matches the type, but it’s still adorable.

90 Miss B June 3, 2010 at 2:16 pm

Okay, I’m going to have to say that I like the more unisex ones – numbers 1 and 5. And of those two, number 1 is a clear winner to me.

It’s cute, clean and I love the color combo desperately! I need kids so I can do a room in those colors!!!

91 Megan June 3, 2010 at 2:18 pm

#1 0r #3

92 Geneva June 3, 2010 at 2:19 pm

I like number 1 :)

93 Sandra June 3, 2010 at 2:21 pm

I like them all… My choice would be #1 ….but I do think the boy in the pictured looks a lot older than 3 ….just saying….also think #3 would be a winner if the photo would have been larger.

94 kate in the shade June 3, 2010 at 2:21 pm

3 caught my eye, but the head kind of looks odd to me… so I pick #5, which I love!

95 Ali June 3, 2010 at 2:22 pm

#1 –for the colors and design.

96 Pixel June 3, 2010 at 2:22 pm

Number 2 is my favorite. It’s so simple with clean lines and the blue and white really frame the photo nicely, making it pop! All submissions are really great though, kudos to all the designers!

97 tvmom June 3, 2010 at 2:22 pm

5…simple and cute!

98 Jennifer June 3, 2010 at 2:23 pm

I love #5 because my girls love butterflies, but the green with elephants is a close second.

99 Darci June 3, 2010 at 2:23 pm

I’m due in 6 weeks and would LOVE to win this!

100 Dana June 3, 2010 at 2:24 pm

#3 is most unique.

101 Jules22 June 3, 2010 at 2:25 pm

Hi – I like how #1 incorporates all the colours from the image to the typeface for ‘Alexander’ – overall, it’s crisp, clean and incorporates the zoo theme in a cool understated way.

That said, I do like #3 for it’s fun, playful use of the photo within the graphic.

wow – must have been a tough decision!!
