Kirtsy + BlogHer Gala & Art Auction

June 29, 2010

Are you going to BlogHer ’10 this summer in New York? I can’t wait to attend. I’ll be speaking on a panel with Grace from Design*Sponge. And it will be my first flight with Baby June. But I think I’m most excited about the party that was just announced yesterday:

Kirtsy is teaming up with BlogHer to create the the much-anticipated Voices of the Year Gala and Art Auction.

Voices of the Year Gala & AuctionBetween now and the party, the Kirtsy team and BlogHer will work to transform words and images of the Voices of the Year into works of art in a variety of mediums. These pieces will be featured, displayed, and showcased at BlogHer ‘10 in New York on Friday evening, August 6th, immediately after the community keynote at a reception and Gala.  Then, THEN!, these inspiring works will be auctioned off to benefit healing action in the Gulf Coast, raising money to help fund the long-term recovery efforts the Gulf will need.

Kirtsy wants to get you involved. If you’re an artist, graphic designer or photographer, Kirtsy would love you to contribute your artistic vision to interpret the powerful words that have been chosen as winners. Are you interested? Send an email and let Kirtsy know. Seriously. You’ll get the 411 about the art display and how you can participate.

How rad is that?!

Here’s what BlogHer says about it all:

We’ll start at BlogHer ‘10 with a Gala that is a feast for the senses. Not just fine food and divine drinks; not just music…including a special guest performance still to be announced…but also a feast for the eyes, as Kirtsy will be transforming the entire space into a gallery featuring custom-commissioned art works that evoke the spirit of our Voices of the Year finalists. Those works will be auctioned off post-conference, with proceeds benefitting the Nature Conservancy, so that BlogHer ‘10, and everyone there, has the opportunity to contribute in some part to what will be a long recovery process for the Gulf.

P.S. — Wondering why I’m so excited about this? Two reasons: it’s going to be an amazing event and I’m one of the founders of Kirtsy. : )

Me too! I love a good art show. And this one is going to be extra cool — everyone that attends will get to participate in a LIVE art piece that will be created that evening.

Another reason I’m bummed to miss BlogHer this year. the art showing at Mom 2.0 was fantastic. I might request information, even though my photographs are not professional…

I agree. The Mom 2.0 show was amazing. And this is sure to be even bigger and better. We’ll miss you!

What a great event – I’m very sorry to be missing it. If anything, this is perfect inspiration to work towards nabbing a spot at BlogHer ’11!

Cheers,
Anne

Isn’t it crazy how fast the BlogHer conference sells out? It’s definitely worth putting on your calendar for next year.

I MUST go this year.

How does one sign up? Can we just show up or do you get tickets in advance?

If you’re free that weekend, you should definitely come! There’s nothing else quite like the BlogHer conference. They are actually sold out. But if you put the word out on Twitter and on your blog, you should be able to purchase one from someone that can’t go because of a schedule conflict and needs to sell their registration.

Ok. I’ll start here. Anyone want to get rid of their ticket? Pretty please! Email me youcantcallitit AT gmail DOT com

I would absolutely love to attend the conference next year. I am new to all of this…so still learning about BlogHer and Kirtsy. So incredibly cool that you founded this.
Just like when I joined Facebook, sites like this (even though wonderful) can be slightly overwhelming at first (meaning, not know where to start!!). Do you have any quick recommendations (that won’t take too much of your time) on getting started in reading/navigating/following these sites?
thank you!

I love Grace and you know how much I like you. I wish I was going. I went to the one in SF but for the past 2 years I’ve been late at buying tickets. You will rock the panel.

Also, I agree with what Torrie (comment above said) I really have a hard time navigating Kirtsy. Can you give us a quick tutorial?

xoxo

This sounds like so much fun and interesting, but sad to say I won’t be there. It’s not in our budgeting stars:) I’ll shoot for next year hopefully, fingers crossed:)

Good for you guys! What a great idea and a great cause to support. I’m afraid I’m not attending. Not quite into the blogging biz enough to make it justifiable. Although I’d love to go to NY just cuz. It looks like the auction will be after the fact? Will anyone be able to view/bid? Or will it be all done during the conference?

Great question. And the answer is YES. The auction will be online and anyone will be able to view and bid. So great!

Found a ticket. :-D

If anyone else needs one there is a thread on BlogHer called Ticket Swap. People are posting passes for sale there. So excited!

Who better than you three to curate this auction, after the amazing initiative you led at Mom 2.0 Summit for women in Haiti? I loved it. We can’t wait to work with you to raise funds to clean up the Gulf.

My husband and I will be flying with our 2-month old twins in a couple of weeks. I would love to read your thoughts about how to fly with a baby… or two. :)
(We live in Littleton, so we will also be flying in and out of DIA.)
