Two years ago Allysha of Bells on Their Toes interviewed me. But one thing led to another and the interview was posted just last week. It was so fun for me to read the answers to see if they’re still relevant — if I feel now what I felt then. I think this is probably the longest, most thorough interview I’ve given. If you have a chance to check it out, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Allysha also wrote a sweet intro here. Thanks Allysha. I’m blushing.
Image spotted on It’s Mary Ruffle. Aren’t those patterned lanterns beautiful?

So what do you think? How did your answers hold up over 2 years?
I thought it was a very interesting read. I agree that when you’re sharing links to “stuff” it’s more of an appreciation for nicely designed things that exist in the world. I definitely don’t feel tempted to buy things. I also love finding pretty things at target but I’ve never left a full shopping cart behind before!
I love your Target story!
I can’t imagine how something could take two years to publish. I’m going to hop over there now and take a read.
Sorry for the 2nd comment – just read the post and left a comment but I realize it’s an older post and perhaps won’t be read. I loved what you said “We take care of each other. We take care of our bodies. We take care of our things.” That is a great motto. I also appreciate your thoughts on looking at the books and artwork in your home and asking yourselves if they are influences you want around your children.
I just think you are brilliant, I really do. The more I read of your interviews, the more I find myself wanting to channel certain things into my family’s life. And it isn’t the material stuff per se, it’s the environment and character that you are striving to create that really resonates with me. Thank you for sharing.
Such great answers and what a fantastic family moto. I’m not sure if I became a reader too late in the game, but I would love to know about your chore chart and how you determine which chores are done by which children (something I’m really trying to work on right now).
I just love the interview. I commented there, but also will here-
I am so inspired… as a long time reader, I feel like you have*taught* me to be happy about the existence of beautiful things without temptation or lust for them… also, I hope for our home to be like the one you grew up in.

I loved your interview! We should all strive to create such delightful homes. I, too, love the family motto!! Seems like a great way teach my children to support one another, eat their veggies and bring their stuffed animals inside before the rain. Loved reading it!
Subscribing to Its Mary Ruffle just makes my day – I love all the pretty pictures.
I like the idea of making the home a base for creativity.
I found your interview as honest and thorough as your blog! I wish my husband and I actually thought about our books/library and the influence it would have later on my kids development/creativity etc … Unfortunately, I am more on the PC than actually reading a book these days unless those read at bedtime..for kids…yikes!
Thanks to you, I am going to try to make it better…
Hugs
I want to stumble upon your Target cart! Just for inspiration sake, of course! Great read. I like you even more. ;)
Loved the interview.
Lovely interview Gab. Really good.
thanks for sharing the interview and sharing yourself on this blog. it’s very brave of you to put your life and loves out there for all of us to see, but it brings me a lot of joy and for your openness, I’m grateful.
im going right now…i love paper lanterns…
lovely. I like how mindful you are in your parenting and your own life–it seems that you really have an (eternal) vision of where you and your family are headed, and you ensure that the things you do daily are what will take you there.
Loved reading your answers.
Thanks for your example.
What a lovely interview! It inspired me to take a minute yesterday to visualize how our home can reflect our family’s values. It also inspired me to go to Target but I didn’t have the willpower to leave the entire cart!
Great interview, even if it was 2 years ago!! Is there an adopt a sister program because I’m in lol! I love the Target story! I’m always inspired by your blog and I always get great ideas! I love how your husband is involved and talks books! If I tried talking books with mine he’d go huh? and talking about music is even worse! Ha! Thanks for your insight!
I got to go over and read your interview yesterday but didn’t have time to comment. I enjoyed very much the peek into your life. I especially liked the paragraphs about your interests . . . that your family is your priority. That is rare, and you will reap such untold rewards for giving them all the time and attention they need and deserve. I also loved your obvious genuine admiration and respect for your husband. I popped over and read your “About” page, and I think it was there I found the quote I so liked . . . where you said he’s “the best sort of person.”
I love the interview and the way you describe, well, everything about you and your life. The thought and care you and your husband put into art and books…wow…you never cease to inspire.
I also love reading your blog, learning about the existence of beautiful and useful things, but have never, ever felt like anything was a sales pitch or encouragement to buy, buy, buy or toward materialism. I’ve always felt it was wonderful celebration of creativity and the people and companies making it happen. I think of your blog as this great reference I should look back to every time I do actually need to buy something like one you’ve featured (and I do!).
Those paper lanterns are SO gorgeous, too…
