Minted Birth Announcement Contest

May 6, 2010

I’m so excited! I’m the guest judge for two Minted Design Challenges. One is for birth announcements. And one is for birthday invitations. With so many amazing designs and over 400 entries it’s been hard to narrow down my favorites to my top 6. But the fact is, I’ve been charged to pick a winner, so I buckled down and made some choices.

I could use your help for this final stretch! Won’t you please help me pick the winner? Leave a comment and let me know what you think of the top six birth announcement designs (see below). Which one do you think is the most creative or the cutest? Do you have a favorite?

Looking forward to your thoughts!

kisses,
Gabrielle

UPDATE: Thanks for your feedback, everyone. I’m declaring Number One as the official winner.

#1 It’s simple and beautiful

Reply

3 Rachael May 6, 2010 at 2:31 pm

I love #4. It’s elegant.

Reply

4 Kara May 6, 2010 at 2:35 pm

Oy. I don’t envy you – all are beautiful! Number 1 and number 6 are tied for first in my eyes.

5 Courtney May 6, 2010 at 2:41 pm

I like #1, 5, and 6. All very cute!!! 1 is so simple it’s brilliant, 5 is mod and cool, and 6 is like a postcard and I love that look!!

3 and six!

Reply

7 Christy May 6, 2010 at 2:46 pm

I love number 1. I just had a baby, maybe I should wait and see if #1 wins and then use that one!

Reply

8 Jenny May 6, 2010 at 2:46 pm

#1 for sure.

Reply

9 Kerry C. May 6, 2010 at 2:48 pm

#1 & #6…can I pick two? :-)

12 RACHEL May 6, 2010 at 2:51 pm

Number 1!!! Just love it.

Reply

13 Emily Marie May 6, 2010 at 2:59 pm

Number 1. You’d have to have the right photo, which means it probably wouldn’t work for everyone, but it just has a great simplistic look to it that I love.

Reply

14 Christina May 6, 2010 at 3:02 pm

My absolute fave is #3—soooo cute! and I love #1 too!

Reply

15 Emily May 6, 2010 at 3:06 pm

My favorite is #3. But I love #6 also. The concepts behind these are what I love and the design!!

Reply

16 Amber, theAmberShow May 6, 2010 at 3:32 pm

#1 hands down. SO great.

Reply

17 Holly May 6, 2010 at 3:35 pm

Well, not sure I love any of them. I think I would like number 5 if the dandelions were just white. The color behind them get my eyes stuck there and not on the baby. Number 4 is nice too.

Reply

18 Jill May 6, 2010 at 3:36 pm

#6, SO cute and clever!!! All of the other ones are great, but I’v seen them done before, not as original.

19 Erin May 6, 2010 at 3:50 pm

One!

20 Janelle May 6, 2010 at 3:53 pm

I’m a sucker for simplicity…I’d choose #1

Reply

21 Nam B. May 6, 2010 at 3:54 pm

I totally agree with Kerry D -#1.#3 and #5 – Will be a tough call …these designs all suit different taste.

Reply

#1 for sure!

LOVE, love, LOVe number 5 :)

Reply

24 Porsche May 6, 2010 at 4:17 pm

#1, and #3, and #6 are pretty dang cute. but with # one you would have to have a very similar picture to get the effect. It made me smile when i first saw it.

I like the idea of number 6.

Reply

25 Yolanda May 6, 2010 at 4:22 pm

While #1 really only works if you manage to capture a great photo (on a white background, no less), I love the fact that it conveys all of the vital information in such a minimalist design. It’s image + words and nothing more, but I can’t stop staring at it.

Reply

26 Amber May 6, 2010 at 4:24 pm

I love the simplicity of #1. But they are all very cute!

Reply

27 Kim May 6, 2010 at 4:25 pm

#1. Maybe because I have a Jack? It’s very graphic.

Reply

28 Emily May 6, 2010 at 4:27 pm

I love #5 the best. #3 my second favorite. And #1 is great!

Reply

29 Garinee May 6, 2010 at 4:33 pm

So hard to choose! I think my favorites are 1 & 5

Reply

30 Cuky Mendez May 6, 2010 at 4:38 pm

#3 is the best but #1 is close

Reply

31 Laura May 6, 2010 at 4:46 pm

#6 is my fav.

Reply

32 Jenny May 6, 2010 at 4:54 pm

I love #1 and #6 – definitely not the one with the little flower doo dads all over it (#5), too distracting

Reply

33 Mary Beth May 6, 2010 at 4:54 pm

I love #1 & 5! I could use these around October 23!

Reply

34 Sonja May 6, 2010 at 5:17 pm

#1 and then #6 are my top choices – I love how simple #1 is – and how big the picture is.

#6 is adorable and puts the baby in the spotlight–I’ve always loved airmail envelopes (sending and receiving)!

Reply

40 Carrie May 6, 2010 at 6:06 pm

I like them all but I especially like number 6!

Reply

41 sharon May 6, 2010 at 6:16 pm

the first one is the most original – love it!

Reply

42 Jessie Hansen May 6, 2010 at 6:39 pm

Reply

48 Emma May 6, 2010 at 7:13 pm

1 and 3 (really depends on the photo……)

Reply

49 Shannon May 6, 2010 at 7:35 pm

#1. It looks the most original and focuses on the great photo. The rest have all been done before, or at least that’s what it feels like to me. The first looks the least like a template.

Reply

50 Maria May 6, 2010 at 7:37 pm

Number 1! Love how clean, simple, and URBAN it is.

Reply

51 Amanda May 6, 2010 at 7:41 pm

#1 No Doubt.

Reply

52 Crystal May 6, 2010 at 7:48 pm

Hands down, #1. This is a fresh, modern, clean approach and what I think Minted is becoming known for. My second choice would be #6 because it also quite clean and quirky and European, and I personally like the presentation of an airmail package vs. “the Stork” for a “special delivery.”

Reply

53 Natalie May 6, 2010 at 8:07 pm

5 for girl, 6 for boy.

Reply

54 Alli May 6, 2010 at 8:22 pm

Number 5 is my favorite. It’s the one I looked at and thought, “wow, that’s so pretty.”

Reply

55 Vanessa May 6, 2010 at 8:27 pm

I love #5 because it’s so simple yet so different. I love the rounded corners and the baby really is center stage!

Reply

56 marti driver May 6, 2010 at 8:38 pm

Love #1 and #4 is very pretty too

Reply

57 tara May 6, 2010 at 8:44 pm

wow, i usually love minted designs. i’ve used them and have been most pleased but i didn’t love any of these either. that said, i like the simplicity of number 1 and i like the concept of number 6 (but the colors, or something, didn’t do it for me). shoot.

Reply

58 Laura May 6, 2010 at 9:18 pm

All the babies are adorable (of course!), but for the design itself, I love #1 best!

Reply

59 Barb @ getupandplay May 6, 2010 at 9:22 pm

Wow! I can see how you’re having a hard time! They really are so excellent! I think I’m leaning toward number 1 just because it is so much different than anything I’ve seen before!

Reply

60 Vanessa May 6, 2010 at 9:39 pm

#5 because the focus is on the baby’s cute self, but it still includes the info everyone wants to know.

I loved #3 also. Each little pic is so cute, I could look at it over and over. The down side is the pics of the baby are so small and hard to see.

#1 — Unisex, classic and uncluttered. Not wild about the dominant font, though.

Reply

64 damaris May 6, 2010 at 11:00 pm

numero uno for sure!

Reply

65 Aimee May 6, 2010 at 11:23 pm

I like #5 and #6!

Reply

68 Erika May 7, 2010 at 5:07 am

3 or 6. But if you really want me to choose, it will be 3.

Reply

69 Sommer R May 7, 2010 at 5:58 am

I have to go “1″ as well. It does rely on a great photo but really do you want to send out a baby announcement without one? If you can;t get a great expression try for the feet. Simple, cute, relaxed.

Reply

70 Carmen May 7, 2010 at 6:27 am

I like #5, but you need a great picture of your baby, otherwise it won’t look so great…and when we talk about babies pictures not always you get a great shot. Then I go for #6 I think is simple and cute!

Reply

71 Lauren T. May 7, 2010 at 6:48 am

I like # 2 & # 6. #1 & # 5 are great but you need an awesome picture because that is the whole design and that might be hard in the first few days, without the right camera, etc. :) I like #3 but again, you need a few good pictures which might not be realistic if you are a new mom!

Reply

72 Brooke Meyer May 7, 2010 at 7:22 am

#1 is my favorite… but love the colors in #3!

Reply

76 Victoria May 7, 2010 at 8:42 am

I think my vote is for #3. Great design all around! #6 is in close second place for me.
#1 is awesome, but really relies on that particular picture, the same for #5.

77 Megan Buck May 7, 2010 at 8:43 am

I like #1, simple but beautiful.

Reply

78 Ruth May 7, 2010 at 8:45 am

#6 is my top choice!

Reply

79 kirsten May 7, 2010 at 9:13 am

I love that first one! bold and classy, but different from what other people are doing + not too ‘scrapbooky’.

Reply

80 Claire May 7, 2010 at 9:14 am

Oh, number 1 for sure. It is simple and striking, focused on the adorable newborn babe. Just right.

Reply

81 Catherine May 7, 2010 at 9:31 am

No. 5 is my favorite of these (for a girl), but I don’t really LOVE any of them either.

Reply

82 Karin May 7, 2010 at 9:34 am

So hard to narrow it down! I like #1, 2, and 5. I know…I voted for half of them…sorry!

Reply

83 hyz May 7, 2010 at 9:56 am

They’re all pretty great, so no worries, you can’t lose. But my personal favorite is #1, followed by #4. #2 is classic and pretty, though, and #5 is killer IF you get the right shot–it looks great there, but I think it could look dull even with some lovely pictures, depending on composition and contrast.

Reply

84 jessica May 7, 2010 at 10:31 am

I like #3…very unique!

#1 and #3. But if I had to choose between the two – #1. It’s fabulous.
