A Few Things

May 28, 2010

Hello, Friends. Our first week of summer vacation is coming to a close. Based on the number of popsicles/creamsicles/ice cream sandwiches consumed, I’m calling it a rousing success. Tomorrow, I’m looking forward to cleaning the maternity clothes out of my closet (don’t you love a good organization project?) and trying to coax a smile out of June. (Is it too early? I can never remember). In the meantime, here are some links I’ve been meaning to share with you.

-I’m in love with this image. Everything about it. The desk, the red bin, the school pennants, the chalkboard in the background, the colors and composition. I don’t think it’s meant to be art, but I want to frame it.

-Organized chaos.

-Crazy cool aquarium birthday cake.

-I want her chicken coop.

-I’ve mentioned them before, but I can’t get enough of the images on Forever Is Today.

-Let’s make flower pancakes.

-Did you know about Flickr: The Commons? Me neither. Thank Ms. Pings for the introduction.

-Wouldn’t it be great if there was a Popbar down the street?

-Four steps to breaking up with Bloglines. (My favorite quote from the article: “Set yourself up an account with Google if you don’t have one. I don’t judge you for not having one yet, and I hope you don’t judge me for never ever voting on any TV talent show.”)

-Pretty enough to inspire a foot fetish.

-Traveling with a baby this summer? Marriott’s offering outlet covers, nightlights, baby shampoo…

-Update that summer wardrobe. Vintage Fringe is giving 20% off all orders over $100 until May 31st.

-Nice! A tutorial on making your own loom for a potholder rug.

-Sweet thoughts on motherhood.

I hope you have a beautiful weekend. Think of the Blairs if you run through the sprinklers. We’ll be doing that too.

kisses, Gabrielle

Do you know that sensation of sitting in a corner chair reading and having an unexpected breeze travel by? The pages might ruffle, you pause to take a deep breath, appreciating anew that you are able to just be, to lose yourself in someone else’s words? That’s what coming here is like. It surprises and delights me every time.
Thank you for bringing that to my life.

What an absolutely amazing aquarium birthday cake! My daughter would like one now…oh dear!
The pancake post made me think of this page I found recently and so I thought I would share it with you. While I have made flowers and snowmen and such for my daughters, these inspire me to get a little more creative with my pancakes.

Every time I see one of you A Few Things posts, I immediately send links to others – the aquarium is amazing, the pop bar caught my eye, and the Marriot is really stepping it up. Thank you so much for these inspirational posts!

We’ve kicked off summer with lots if popsicle making, too! Splurged on the Zoku from Williams Sonoma. Keep in the freezer and make cool homemade pops in a flash! With your creativity, I bet your pops would be photo worthy! ;)

Creamsicles are a perfect summer snack…now I’m craving one.
I’d love to make one of those potholder rugs too–I used to love making potholders as a kid.

Thanks for the memories–creamsicles + potholders. Oh to be a kid again!

Just a quick note from a lurker to say that I LOVE sitting down with my computer on a Friday night and checking out “A Few Things”. I save it for last and savor every image, word, and feeling they generate. I don’t know how you do this with a new baby, not to mention your other bigger ‘babies’, but I am so glad you do.

About 4 weeks on the smiles, from memory.

Am completely loving your blog, and may have to marry you.

I am doing just the same this week!!! My daughter is 1 month old today, and I have seen her smile at me twice hahaha!! I totally forgot when my first daughter smiled at me first, too, then I remembered it was when she was just the same age. Cutest thing ever! EVER!

I was so worried when my 3rd daughter was not smilling by 2 months. I had that could-not-breath-freely feeling she was autistic. I started googling it (autistic baby). My first was smiling at 3 weeks and my second at 8 days (the screams came much later!). This one just slept. Of course she started smiling just about then. She is just sweet and very laid-back and gives me a chance to take care of her twin sister!

Sigh. I have that same desk and I love it but when we moved to Tennessee the menfolk revolted and refused to carry it one more inch (it weighs a TON!). So it is sitting in a field at the inlaws’ farm and serves as a “staging area” for clay pigeon and target shooting.
