Last Month in New York

April 1, 2009

I can’t thank you enough for the encouraging comments about our move. Really, truly. With every comment I read, I get more and more excited for this new adventure for my family!

To finish up our New York era with a bang, we’ve packed our calendar with as many fun outings as we can manage. For example, after church on Sunday, we took a drive to the Long Beach so we could wave goodbye to the Atlantic Ocean — who knows when we will see those waters again? It was foggy and beautiful and we had the beach entirely to ourselves. It was a perfect afternoon.

To get a peek at what we’ll be up to the rest of this month, you can take a look at our calendar (click on it to enlarge):

I love that one of the first things you’re going to do in CO is to get new library cards. That made me smile so big!

Best of luck! I’m excited to hear about all of your adventures!

Best of luck to you in Colorado, I drove through the state on my way home from college graduation in AZ with my mom and dad (they had honeymooned there way back when and were anxious to revisit)All I can say is that it was gorgeous, I am guessing that you and your family will make the transition well.. from your postings your family seems like it has a great sense of adventure. Plus look at it this way, now you will be in the center of the country, flying to either coast will be shorter, and you will really get the opportunity to wear your new cowboy boots from Texas:)

Me eyes are no longer young, and wasn’t able to read the enlarged calendar…so don’t know if this is on it – but be sure to go to the Celestial Seasonings Plant. They give free tours, you can try any or all of the teas that they sell (and taste testing is free too). They have a “to die for” gift shop. You can see some of the fattest happiest prairie dogs, on the planet…and the grounds out front are lovely. I go back every time I go out to visit my girls!

moving is no small task. I’ve moved over seas too many times. Now I’m dreading potentially moving a couple miles away…

Colorado is beautiful. There will be lots of fun outdoor stuff to do.

Enjoy your last month in NY

Thanks for the great comments. It will be fun to see how much actually gets done.

I have no idea if we’ll be able to get our library cards and Rockies hats on our first day in Colorado. But I love the idea of diving right in and getting to know our new community.

I love the Pepsico Gardens – When Mom and Dad were on their mission (the Borens) that was one of the places they tried to share with visitors – excellent choice.

I’m sure that you can get Rockies baseball caps in the airport if nothing else works!

You can fill out a change of address online now, so you don’t even have to go to the post office to do that. And I think you can do it anytime and then put in the date that you want the mail to start forwarding.

Wow! Sounds like fun! Have you been to the Tenement Museum on the lower east side? I think it would be really fun for your kids…it gives a glimpse into what life was like for many immigrants, and you get to tour an old tenement. Then, lunch in Little Italy?

i’m a recently new follower of your blog… living in nyc, almost a year now. i don’t plan to stay here for too long, teaching is hard in the city, and i want to be able to love my job again. my husband and i have co as a possible next destination. but i do have to say, it brought tears to my eyes as i read through your calendar of events. this is how i try to live while i’m here… doing as much as possible. enjoy the rest of your nyc exploring!

We left Brooklyn a year for Mississippi. We miss many things but love going back and “owning the town” as old New Yorkers…My 12 year old will always be a “city kid”.
