Ask Design Mom Week: Custom Self-Inking Stamps

April 1, 2009

Question:

Hi Gabrielle. I was wondering if you know of any places to buy self inking address stamps that are a little more original than the typical ones you buy at office supply stores. I’ve seen some great rubber stamps on etsy but would prefer self inking so that I don’t have to mess with an ink pad every time I use it. Thanks for any suggestions! — Alicia

Answer:
Oh. I love self-inking stamps, Alicia. They are so satisfying to use. I only own one. But I love it. It’s made by Three Designing Women and the customization options they offer are nearly limitless — which means you can get exactly what you’re looking for. What about you, Dear Friends? Do you use self-inking stamps? What’s your source?

I've never seen any around that I like as much as theirs. They have so many choices!

I have several of theirs. An address one, one that says “Love, The Brill Family”, one that says “From the Library of Stacey Brill”, etc. I love them all. I got mine from a good friend at http://www.whitneycarolinedesigns.com

I’d like to get some tongue-in-cheek stamps. Like, if my roommate leaves his stuff around, I can stamp “Clean Up” all over his things.

What do you think?

oh, J Fan, kind of funny from this perspective but probably not your roomate’s…it seems a bit passive aggressive.

I found mine at http://www.expressionery.com/ — once in awhile they have 40% off sales. And, you can choose from several ink colors in addition to many, many designs. I went with a monogram.

I love Expressionary.com! I got all the women in my family custom stamps from there for Christmas last year. I just got an email today with a 40% off code through May 12: MOM40.

there are a few sellers on ETSY that make lovely custom stamps–self inking and otherwise. I like those offered by sweet paperie on etsy. I had one custom made for my husband for his personal library–in lieu of a bookplate.

Gabby: the two source links on your answer paragraph are bad. I get a Server Object Error, whatever that is.

stamp-connection.com does custom self-inking stamps for, I think, a very reasonable price.

There’s a post about the ordering process on the small object at http://thesmallobject.com/stenopad/wordpress/?m=200810

I have been wanting one of these stamps for a few years now. I never think about it when my family says – “what would you like for your birthday?!” I’ll have to check out all of these sources. You all are great!

I got a family address stamp from stampoutonline.com (found her on etsy). The woman gave me a number of options based on what I said I like and then tweaked the one I chose to my specifications. I’m really happy with it.

Grace over at Design*Sponge mentioned these not so long ago http://thepaperwink.com/products/categories/stamps
though they aren’t self inking, you have to use a pad. they are still ridiculously fun designs and you could change colors often!

I posted about this very thing awhile back. I love the idea of a self-inking stamp and these are the prettiest I could find!
