Beautiful, Awesome, Bike Helmets

Spotted on
kirtsy. Yakkay bike helmets. Seeing these made my day. I love when a designer reinterprets an everyday object with a new style.

Ok that is so cool. I've never seen bike helmets like that before. I hate wearing clunky helmets and want to look chic! After my hubby bought me a diamond engagement ring from www.idonowidont.com I want to buy him a bike for X-Mas, do you think they have guy versions of these helmet hats? Amazing.

If only I had had one of those on my mission when I got hit by a car while riding my bike in Italy. I refused to wear a helmet since they looked so ridiculous! These ROCK!

Oh soooo cooool! How clever. We have a mandatory helmet law around my neighborhood. I could see being stopped by a cop for not wearing one then wowing him with the secret under your hat.

Um, hate to be the one to point it out but here is a comment left on the swissmiss blog when she reviewed these helmets a few days back:

"While I agree that these helmets are much more stylish than others, the main reason that helmets are covered in that shiny plastic is to keep it from sticking to the road. If a helmet is not smooth, it won't slide. If you come off your bike and don't slide, the force is transferred to your neck/spinal cord and you can end up with serious damage."

So, looks cute but can't fall into the category of good design (I think) if it takes an existing design and reduces its function at the expense of form.
