Books of the Week: Not A Box and Selma

June 7, 2007

Note: My friend Josh, a man with impeccable taste, sent me an email about two books, which I vowed to check out immediately. But weeks later, I still haven’t. So I thought I would tell you about them today anyway, because I think they look fantastic. And maybe this post will be the thing that finally gets me to place a book order already. Both have great reviews at Amazon and are under $8 in hardcover. Thanks, Josh!

From Josh: I was just at the library, and I came across two really cute/well designed books you should check out.

The first: Not a Box
Cute, simple line drawings. It is about a bunny that keeps insisting his cardboard box is not a box, it is a rocket ship, a mountain, etc. Find it here.

Number two: Selma
It is one of those cute books that you would give as a gift to your mom, or a co-worker or whoever. It is about a sheep, with a simple life who is happy with her simple life.
Here it is at Amazon.

My husband and I saw “Not a Box” in a little shop a couple weeks ago. He loved, I loved it. Very clever and cute, too!

The “Not a Box” can turn into an awesome present. Stuff it at the bottom of a huge plain study cardboard box fresh for discovery…they REALLy do love the the boxes the best!

I’m a buyer at a small childrens shop on the South coast of MA… (hence my constant lurking on your blog… not posting much I’m a little shy) but I had to comment that these two books in particular are ones that I bought for the shop and they are just so simple and beautiful.

I LOVE Selma. We got it in France when it came out a few years ago, so I haven’t read it in English, but the story is darling!

I just bought Not a Box for my 2-year-old nephew. Also discovered it at Books of Wonder in NYC. Your friend Josh has great taste! Can’t wait to check out Selma!
