Triple Ask Design Mom: Recycling Containers, Swimsuits, Rocking Chairs

April 23, 2007

Recently, my wonderful Guest Moms have been answering Ask-Design-Mom Questions without knowing it. For example, I received this question:Hello Design Mom. Do you have any ideas for some non-ugly recycling containers for the kitchen? My waste management company now picks up food waste along with regular recycling and garbage. I don’t want three garbage cans [...]

Shabby Apple Dresses

April 23, 2007

Has everyone out there checked out Shabby Apple? A new company featuring dresses, dresses and more dresses. Reasonably priced with no ridiculous hemlines. These dresses seem very mom-friendly to me. From their website: “A return to what dresses were always meant to be — a one-piece outfit. No need to add anything. . . no [...]

PB Kids Toys

April 23, 2007

I haven’t looked closely at a PB Kids catalog for maybe 6 months, so it was fun to browse the latest version and see some new products. Look how pretty this color wheel puzzle is. And seems like it would be nice to have around when the kids are mixing paints. Share and Enjoy:

neighborhoodies — by Guest Mom Sara Stratford

April 20, 2007

I was on the neighborhoodies website this morning, since my sister Laura and I are planning on getting one for our nephew for his birthday. It occurred to me that while I’ve known about this site for years, Designmom readers might not. Basically, you can customize your own hoodie/t-shirt/underwear with whatever saying you can come [...]

Skirt Makeover

April 20, 2007

Last week I spotted this great project at Room Somewhere and I’ve got the perfect piece of clothing to try it out. So smart. Just sew a contrasting fabric beneath your piece of clothing. Trace a shape and then sew along the tracing line. Then cut the shape out of the top fabric to reveal [...]

The Great Rocking Chair Debate — by Guest Mom Sara Stratford

April 20, 2007

Seven years ago, when my daughter was born, my mom came out to help take care of her. Travis and I had only been in our apartment for a month, and had failed to buy a crib, dresser, or the all-important rocking chair. Truth be told, we weren’t that excited about buying a rocker. But [...]

April 19, 2007

This post and Monday’s post started out as one… but then it just got longer and longer. Turns out, I love stuff. Period. And the stuff for kids has gotten so much better in the past few years, I can’t believe it. First, I adore these Me in Mind baby shoes. I don’t even think [...]

Book of the Week: Oh What A Busy Day

April 19, 2007

I love the artwork of Gyo Fujikawa. She’s illustrated/authored over 40 children’s books — a Mother Goose Collection, a Poetry Collections, a Fable Collection, and on and on — and each one looks so comfortable and familiar to me. I assume this is because much of her work was originally published when I was a [...]

Ask-Design-Mom Question:Hi Gabrielle, My name is Maria Marquez, and I’m from La Jolla, California. I’m emailing you in hopes that you might be able to help me find a silver baby rattle. Hats! — by Guest Mom Sara Stratford

April 18, 2007

I can’t believe I’ve lived in New York for seven Easters and never knew about this. I always spend Easter Sunday at church, and then spearheading a massive egg hunt for the kids. Next year, though, I’m determined that we will create hats of our own and saunter down 5th Ave. So great! Share and [...]

Trellis Print

April 18, 2007

I am really digging this trellis print duvet from West Elm. It comes in a green and a blue, and although I’ve been craving green lately, in this pattern, I much prefer the blue. I’m not in the market for bedding, so I’m glad I can get a little bit of the pattern in canvas [...]

The Quest for the Perfect Bathing Suit — by Guest Mom Sara Stratford

April 18, 2007

I wish I had a photo of my husband’s face the day he walked by my laptop and caught me shopping for bathing suits. He found it preposterous for a few different reasons, such as: -It was January. A bit premature for bathing suit shopping, especially since we weren’t going anywhere warm for spring break. [...]

Twig Crayons

April 18, 2007

60 natural wood crayons made from forest salvage. More expensive than crayons should be. I don’t love the holder, but the crayons are just so appealing. Their twigness would be pretty on display. Thanks for the link, Hailey. Share and Enjoy:
