New Job

Here is something wonderful that happened over my break that I haven't told you about:

My husband Ben accepted a position at SUNY New Paltz (SUNY = State University of New York) for the next academic year. Hooray for Ben!! This is his first full-time academic position, and it means he really, really has to defend his dissertation in the next month or so.

We are really excited. It's about an hour north of here, but no move required — his classes fall on 2 days, and he'll just commute. If this turns into a permanent position, we'll look into houses there. The idea of having a house and some space (maybe an acre or two) in New Paltz and then keeping a tiny apartment in the city is so appealing to me.

Again, Hooray for Ben Blair!!

Congratulations! My husband and I met at SUNY New Paltz eighteen years ago when we both attended. I got my BFA in graphic design there.

It is a wonderful campus. It has grown a lot in the last few years, but has not lost its charm. The theater department is unbelievable... many famous actors are alumni. Be sure to take in some plays if you get the chance.

The town has some fantastic little shops, very inspiring. We try to there every time we are in New York. It holds a special place in our hearts.

You mean I spent 2 hours with your husband last night and he didn't mention a thing? And to think of all the goats I've sacrificed to appease the academic gods on his behalf...
